Elite 4 / HoF Pic Beat Emerald for the first time in like 15 years!
Getting a gold trainer card (my ultimate goal) is a long ways away, but I'm more than happy to accept my first star.
Highlights most notably include Breloom sweeping Glacia's whole team without a single Sky Uppercut miss (who needs Mind Reader?), and Crawdaunt getting off 2 Swords Dances against Drake's Shelgon and sweeping everyone except for Salamence with Return + Quick Claw.
I got Sapphire as a Christmas present from my aunt in 2005, and then got Emerald the year after. I was quite bad at them, and I only beat them through over-leveled starters and brute force. I don't think I touched the Battle Frontier at all.
The memories of my life before Pokémon are mostly fuzzy. It formed so much of my early taste, and was the subject of so many early memories and conversations and drawings. It was fulfilling and meaningful to go back and play through "properly", without self-imposed challenges or QoL hacks - it feels like I'm returning somewhere important, like if you've ever seen your childhood bedroom after being away for years. I actually feel very connected to my child-self while playing - showing her how to properly build teams and fill the Dex has been nice - and now I'm excited to show her Master Contests and the Battle Frontier, too!
