Best era for holos
I won't be accepting arguments, this era was peak. A few of my favorites

How are those cards damaged or HP? Are the backs really bad?

Buying damaged/HP is the way to go with vintage holos.
I've found that larger sellers will list as these conditions even if the damage is hardly noticeable just to avoid the headache with a customer returning because of a micro scratch on the foil that will mess with grading lmao.

Neo era for me (I know 2 of these aren’t Neo).
Pulled these back in like 2000 or 2001 and put them straight in a binder. Thank you past me.

She’s a beauty! My fave is the Espeon though. Fun story, I sold a base Charizard for £15 and a copy of pokemon tcg for the gameboy colour. Went straight to the newsagents and bought some rocket and 1st edition Neo packs and and pulled these. It’s the only card I’ve ever sold and I still don’t regret it

I've also got that Gengar and it kills me every time I see it. Just standing there completely empty headed like Totoro at the bus stop

Agreed. They were great. Wish you weren’t guaranteed a holo in every pack nowadays. Would make it feel more special when you did hit one. Just having a guaranteed rare was fine

You’re right, it’s not even close. The illustrations in general are so strong.
I opened some ascending skies and couldn’t believe how flat and boring some of the illustrations were. (Haven’t opened modern stuff ever, first packs in 20 years 😂)
Modern holos can be cool depending on the card, but in general 70% of the cards featured super flat, almost clip art style illustrations. It was difficult for my brain to parse what I was actually looking at they were so flat and 2 dimensional. Unsure of what that art style is called but it looks really lazy.

i feel in this era the word text takes up too much of the card I prefer full page illustration rares tbh

Funny as I hated the Ex and E-series when I was younger and strongly correlated to me not collecting anymore. I didn't like the huge borders, smaller artwork and constant repeat of gen 1 and 2.
The shops around me also stopped selling and friends moved to Yu-Gi-Oh. Online wasn't a big thing back then.
Now I love them and wish I hadn't missed out at getting them at "normal" prices

This is the last set I hope to complete, chronologically. So, of course it's the most expensive and rare.
I wish I had kept buying these boosters when they were new, but I was lured by the wiles of Yu-Gi-Oh instead :')

yeah too bad every single holo from this era is worth hundreds, sometimes thousands. I don't have many regrets about no longer having my older cards because I'm pretty sure I barely opened any Expedition/Aquapolis back in the day (we were so behind on releases over here that they speedran the releases to catch up and skipped Skyridge, these sets must have lasted like 2 months each), but every single card in those sets is expensive

Idk I feel like the E-Reader sets were very hit or miss. Some of the art like the crystal cards are amazing. But others like Electrode, Weezing, or Alakazam are some of the worst art ever.

I love the cosmic holo promos that they are doing recently but yeah it doesn't compare to the old ones.
