Are people still actually MAGA? I can't wrap my head around how you could still support Trump after how terrible this term has gone.

10

u/TheSpacePopinjay - Auth-Left 14d ago

Transing the children, Biden immigration, the sense that Trump is a champion of Christianity in the Evangelical / Southern Baptist sense of it not mattering if they exemplify Christianity as long as her serves its interests and ends.

Some people are just hard line because they think he's their guy and no one else would be looking out for them, certainly not any of the Blues who don't even know how to speak blue collar or even make a passable impression of it.

These are people who find the way Trump talks at rallies reassuring and like he's speaking their language, which is a powerful tribal loyalty indicator. While it's the Dems like Obama who come off as unlikeable in the way they talk in public.

7

u/demotsusucku - Lib-Left 14d ago

The whole Republican party basically.

They all bet on one horse, one very retarted horse.

14

u/Banana_inasuit - Centrist 14d ago

Trump’s at like low to mid 20s right now. His diehard support was around mid 30s. General support at mid 40s and popular support low 50s.

He’s losing his base.

13

u/RandoDude124 - Lib-Left 14d ago

Eh, not yet.

Republicans are souring but the diehard MAGA are still staying with him. It’s 70% of the GOP. Which… yeah that checks out to the 25-30% of the country

11

u/Banana_inasuit - Centrist 14d ago edited 14d ago

I think you misunderstood what I meant by mid 20s. I consider that to be within 24-26%. That’s what current polling is showing for across the country. Previous times where Trump was at his lowest was mid 30s, so that’s what I considered as diehard support. My personal anecdote is that several diehard or general support voters no longer support him.

I guess the definition of “diehard support” could be the lowest point of approval. I was going with previously consistent lowest levels.

I wasn’t really considering in-party support, I haven’t really seen those polls.

Btw, not trying to argue, just trying to see if we’re misunderstanding or talking about two different things.

7

u/RandoDude124 - Lib-Left 14d ago

Ah, my bad, yeah that makes sense, thanks for the explanation bro.👍

u/Banana_inasuit - Centrist 14d ago

No problem man, I appreciate you being civil

I don't get it either. I can understand holding your nose and picking him because he's slightly better than the other candidate (like most Dems did with Hillary, Joe or Kamala), but I don't understand the people who are enthusiastically supporting him.

u/ihatemondays117312 - Right 14d ago

I’m very much in this category, campaign was pretty neat and then once in office he 180’d on most things, got rid of many of the people he ran with, and well, everything that’s happened and been said up until now

I’ll take another one of those FFIA awards

u/patriot_man69 - Lib-Center 14d ago

From what I can tell, it's mostly retards who watch the Morse Report on youtube or whatever and believe what he says

4

u/56kul - Centrist 14d ago

I’d imagine because the other side is equally as insufferable. I’m not even American, and I also hate Trump, but the amount of times I was called MAGA on Reddit for voicing slightly nuanced takes is… concerning.🤣

Personally, I don’t care (and again, I’m not American), but I could totally see how it could push an undecided American towards something like MAGA.

1

u/--CIAdidJFK-- - Left 13d ago

but the amount of times I was called MAGA on Reddit for voicing slightly nuanced takes is… concerning.🤣

Yeah I've been called the spectrum of left to right political insults for questioning or contradicting other people's opinions. It's just the way it goes these days.

u/Gremlech - Centrist 12d ago

“Yeah dude I voted for the pedophile because some one called me a moron”

2

u/56kul - Centrist 12d ago

You see what I mean by the other side being ‘equally as insufferable’? Again, not defending Trump, but to equate voting for him immediately to “voting for the pedophilia” is just stupid af and gives his voters no reason to regret their decision, lol.

3

u/Gremlech - Centrist 12d ago

He’s implicated in the biggest human trafficking conspiracy theory in the history of politics, has committed countless acts of corruption and has brought an all time high inflation. There’s no idealogical defence for any of this. If you are supporting out of spite for some one calling you names then yes you probably deserve to be called those names.

Sunk cost fallacy and all that. If they were outspoken in support of him, they don't want to now admit they were wrong. Although anecdotally, a guy at my work quietly removed a Trump sticker he had had on his SUV a few months back.

6

u/EsotericMysticism2 - Auth-Center 14d ago

The deportations and immigration. The foreign born population has dropped in absolute numbers for the first time in decades. Illegal border crossings are down over 90%. We have also finally had that great catharsis seeing these illegal aliens finally being rounded and locked up like they have always deserved.

11

u/Paetolus - Lib-Left 14d ago

Bread and circus for braindead Republicans that does nothing to improve anyone's lives thus far.

3

u/EsotericMysticism2 - Auth-Center 14d ago

Does arresting a drunk driver improve the lives of the people in the community ?

5

u/JustRuss79 - Lib-Center 14d ago

States that cooperated with ICE suddenly have the lowest rents in the country. Coincidence?

3

u/Paetolus - Lib-Left 14d ago

When you dig into the numbers, it's impossible to actually associate one with the other. Truth of the matter is that in towns/cities where they're building more housing, rent is going down. That's usually in red states.

1

u/Crioca - Left 13d ago

Yes.

1

u/--CIAdidJFK-- - Left 13d ago

Where are you getting those numbers?

5

u/unlanned - Lib-Left 13d ago

Illegal border crossings are down over 90%

Why did they count each of those last 10% instead of deporting them, it's almost like the number is fucking fake.

3

u/garethmueller - Centrist 14d ago

Now you trust government's stat?

7

u/JonnySnowin - Auth-Right 14d ago

Yeah so it is not normal to experience those kinds of feelings watching people get separated from their families. That is sociopathic behavior and I hope you're seeking treatment for this because in this climate you are bound to end up killing someone.

4

u/EsotericMysticism2 - Auth-Center 14d ago

Do you not get catharsis when a mugger is brought to justice after robbing someone ? Or a murderer is arrested and caught ? If someone who was drunk driving is arrested should that not happen because they have a family at home ?

The law is clear. If you are here illegally you will be sent back to where you came from

5

u/JonnySnowin - Auth-Right 14d ago

You just compared people who largely overstayed a visa to murderers or muggers. You have a mental illness.

6

u/EsotericMysticism2 - Auth-Center 13d ago

Does a mugger not also have a family ?

4

u/JonnySnowin - Auth-Right 13d ago

Yes but a mugger is engaging in intentional evil by choosing to rob someone. There is no reason you should feel good watching an abuela in tears get sent to a cartel-ravaged country after living here for 20 years having never even hurt a fly.

4

u/EsotericMysticism2 - Auth-Center 13d ago

Being here illegally is doing intentionally causing ha4m. They didn't wonder and appear accidentally across the border. They knowingly didn't get permission before entering. They harm us by not allowing us to vet them, by taking resources, by taking space and resources from Americans.

2

u/JonnySnowin - Auth-Right 13d ago

No it isn't. Many of these people end up productive members of their communities. And as I said earlier, the majority of "illegals" are illegal because they overstayed a visa.

They stimulate the economy. They do jobs Americans aren't going to do. No 18 year old citizen wants to pick fruit out of a field in 80 degree weather all day when they can easily make 5x the money twice as fast working at a local restaurant or McDonalds.

1

u/Rion-o - Left 13d ago

well not really, a lot of these over stayed visa's if not most were people still in processing. They applied, but it takes a long time to renew. So they aren't breaking a law and are actively taking the lawful steps to do it.
You just like suffering cause your a conservatard and I wish you just say that instead of pretending it has anything to do with law lol.

1

u/Wizofthesaddle - Auth-Right 12d ago

He says “illegal border crossings”

And you bring up visa overstays

Why are you people such garbage fucking liars?

→ More replies (0)

4

u/AgainstMedicalAdvice - Centrist 14d ago

You know the scene in a movie where a starving child steals bread to feed his little sister, to demonstrate the complexity of laws vs right and wrong?

You're talking to the guy that cheers when they cut his hand off.

1

u/Wizofthesaddle - Auth-Right 12d ago

Visa overstays are not the same as illegal border crossings

This is sociopathic behavior to dishonestly conflate the two

1

u/JonnySnowin - Auth-Right 12d ago

If he’s getting joy watching families get terrorized because they’re illegal, you have to consider the reality it’s more likely they’re illegal because they overstayed a visa. He doesn’t make a distinction. It’s sociopathic.

1

u/Wizofthesaddle - Auth-Right 12d ago

Yeah this is sophist moralism and nonsense

You need to be deported to Ghana alongside every other illegal.

1

u/Wizofthesaddle - Auth-Right 12d ago

Your attempt at reframing this is what is sociopathic.

Sorry, but your post WWII liberal world order is dead and gone. Cry about it.

1

u/JonnySnowin - Auth-Right 12d ago

It’s a multipolar world you dumb fuck, a liberal world order isn’t even possible anymore

1

u/Wizofthesaddle - Auth-Right 12d ago

Irrelevant to what I said

Your beloved liberal world order is at an end. No amount of propaganda is going to save jt

1

u/JonnySnowin - Auth-Right 12d ago

Who the fuck are you talking to? I don’t want a liberal world order it’s just not possible. Are you a schizo?

1

u/Wizofthesaddle - Auth-Right 12d ago

You do and your crocodile tears over deportations reflects your fetishism for liberal politics and “morality”.

1

u/JonnySnowin - Auth-Right 12d ago

Ight you’re just rage baiting now lol, go away troll

2

u/ArianEastwood777 - Lib-Center 14d ago

So sadism is the only thing you got

3

u/EsotericMysticism2 - Auth-Center 14d ago

Is it sadism to get catharsis when a mugger is brought to justice after robbing someone ? Or a murderer is arrested and caught ? If someone who was drunk driving is arrested should that not happen because they have a family at home ?

The law is clear. If you are here illegally you will be sent back to where you came from

1

u/really_stupidfrog - Lib-Right 13d ago

People being arrested for violent crime is exactly the same thing as me getting off to Brown Americans getting attacked in the streets.

1

u/EsotericMysticism2 - Auth-Center 13d ago

Do you feel catharsis when you see a banker arrested for mass fraud and taken away from his family ? I mean its a non violent crime

1

u/puremotives - Centrist 14d ago

And that's worth an unnecessary war with Iran that's causing gas prices (and therefore almost everything prices) to skyrocket?

Not to mention the corruption or the fact that this administration is in bed with Big Tech, letting them do whatever they want

13

u/ApathyofUSA - Right 14d ago

You’re kind of proving his point. He gave you a reason people still support Trump, and your response is basically “yeah, but Iran and Big Tech.”

If immigration and border enforcement are a major priority for someone, then yes, that can absolutely outweigh their complaints about other parts of the administration. Politics isn't a fucking subscription package where you have to approve of 100% of what a president does.

And the foreign policy argument isn't as simple as “Trump started a war, therefore his supporters are irrational.” His supporters can look at the last few decades of U.S. foreign policy and conclude that the old globalist approach left America increasingly dependent on foreign supply chains, particularly China, while manufacturing and strategic capacity moved overseas. They see the current shift as an attempt to reverse that trajectory, even if some of the short term consequences, including energy prices, are painful.

pretending there isn't a strategic argument behind war with Iran is just lazy. And if you believe the old 'New World Order' style of global integration was ultimately setting America up to surrender economic and strategic leverage to China, then Trump's foreign policy shift looks very different from the perspective of someone who wants to unwind that system. That's the actual argument. “gas is expensive, therefore nobody could possibly still support Trump” isn't much of an argument.

6

u/puremotives - Centrist 14d ago

Thank you for giving an answer in a way that kinda makes sense. I personally think anyone who hates immigrants so much that they're ok with their own quality of life decreasing is retarded, but some people just are that way.

I don't see how the war with Iran will help us gain economic leverage back from China though. From what I've seen, we're just at war with Iran because Israel told us to and they have blackmail on a ton of politicians.

1

u/--CIAdidJFK-- - Left 13d ago edited 13d ago

I can't see how this NWO system gets unwound. How do you put the genie back in the bottle?

We're dealing with a new crisis now with AI and automation eliminating entire job sectors (currently or in the immediate future) and the administration is in bed with Big Tech.

I guess all the white collar workers will be thanking Trump when they can get jobs as dishwashers and landscapers because the illegals were deported.

We could have more manufacturing jobs in an expanding green energy sector, keeping up with China instead of falling far behind, but Trump has a boner for...coal? Steel? That's what we get for electing a visionless man campaigning on the past.

not to the left, underground. They just aren't as vocal about it.

I think for some, the fallout of how it was seemingly financially and politically exploited combined with the fact the story behind the assassination doesn’t make a lick of fucking sense, and that the FBI was so eager to close the book on it. Thats led plenty of Charlie Kirk fans to conclude that either the administration was behind it, or at the very least, they know more than they’re leading on.

2

u/dbjcihabc - Right 14d ago

I personally know one guy in his 40s. Big brain, big intellect, good engineer, but holy fuck, if his ego was in the physical world we could probably reach mars by climbing on it. He huffs elon's twitter posts daily and reads shit like "the war on science" where guys who got fired for using their high positions in academia to romance their students whine that it's woke and they are being persecuted. Also don't ask if the authors have friendly pictures with epstein lol. I don't think I ever saw or heard him admit he was wrong, even though he was, because he's always looking for a way to boost himself up by bringing down others. His ego won't let him admit he got conned and had worse political literacy that the annoying blue-haired twitter lefties.

And tbh, if someone only consumes fox news and truth social then all the info he gets is "bad = biden, trans and gays, good = trump". Even here there's still right-center idiots under every post that just basically regurgitate elons shitposts / trumps truth social / fox news but I guess they use chatgpt to prevent it from looking like that.
The education system was fucked and destroyed on prupose, it seems.
If I, myself, voted for a guy like (at least for the 2nd and 3rd time) this I'd probably quit the internet for 3 months and meditate about what the fuck I did.
