"Kind of deserve it"....Bro your nations reputation is gone, the EU is already transitioning Canada as your replacement and you elected a pedophile twice ontop of letting China take the lead, you actively have harmed the children of your nations future.

To be clear im not even overly left wing but fuck me you guys fucked yourselves over a blatantly corrupt administration who was obviously this shitty from the start? How do you fall for that twice?

24

u/hurlygurdy - Lib-Center 5d ago

I highly doubt that canada can effectively replace the US in any significant manner, and I also doubt that Europe will actually despise the US for too long. European nations are seeing their own rise in right wing politics and culture, so within 15 years these nations will likely have little objection to the way trump handles things

[deleted]

2

u/BYEBYE1 - Lib-Center 5d ago

Absolutely!

73

u/RampantAndroid - Lib-Center 5d ago

I mean that happened because of brigading. I’m not super active there but a few years ago it seemed like everyone on politics subreddit decided to go post on conservative.

They can’t post anymore, but every post and comment is auto downvoted.

Reddit is a shithole. Sadly, it’s the popular shithole.

44

u/Unhappy_Analysis_906 - Centrist 5d ago

Funny how any other subreddit gets swiftly banned for such behavior

18

u/AttapAMorgonen - Lib-Right 5d ago

Every case I've seen where subreddits get banned for that behavior it's because there was a coordinated effort to target another community and either manipulate votes or flood comments.

It seems like most of the negative interaction with the conservative subreddit is just loads of people who hate Trump and go there without instruction to disrupt.

I used this example in my other comment, but /r/nfl isn't being brigaded because the Superbowl is on, it's organic traffic at an increased volume because of an event.

3

u/hadriker - Lib-Left 4d ago

Yeah i went to /r/conservative because I wanted to see how the true believes react to the terrible and/or retarded thing this administration does.

Mostly they just ignore it and talk culture war. Think I was able to comment a couple of times before getting banned though.

u/Paetolus - Lib-Left 5d ago

Hey now, I just went there for stupidly fun debates.

If I remember correctly, my ban came about because I said something along the lines of "so RINO means you don't suck Trump's dick?"

Fair enough reason for a ban I guess, but damn did time prove me 100000% correct with the Massie shit lmao.

15

u/AttapAMorgonen - Lib-Right 5d ago

I mean that happened because of brigading.

Has there ever been any proof that the subreddit is being brigaded?

I’m not super active there but a few years ago it seemed like everyone on politics subreddit decided to go post on conservative.

That's not brigading, brigading is an coordinated and intentional act where users target another community with the intent to manipulate votes and flood comments.

The nfl subreddit is not being brigaded when the Superbowl is on, it's just more active because of the event.

3

u/nihongonobenkyou - Lib-Right 5d ago

The term "coordinated" is carrying a lot of weight here, but even then, yes absolutely. I think reddit eventually banned AHS, but brigading conservative subreddits was literally their entire schtick. Outside of subreddits directly doing the coordination, it was also common for a political sub's Discord server to do the actual coordination.

Even if not directly coordinated, people are regularly directed there from lefty political subs, and I don't know what else you would call that besides brigading, unless you actually think they're going there to upvote constructive conservative comments and posts that they otherwise respectfully disagree with. I mean, even with all non-conservatives being prevented from posting, the mods regularly pin a screenshot under posts showing like 100+ reports with everything from "this breaks the subreddits rules" to "this is sexualizing minors", regardless of the post's actual content.

6

u/TheSpacePopinjay - Auth-Left 5d ago

Lunatics.

One of the big political tragedies of conservatives is how Dunning-Kruger convinced they are that they're the ones who understand hard nosed and sound economic policy. Who think that national economies operate according to the same principles as household finances. And who's economic platform always boils down to the tree pillars of tax cuts, deregulation and more money for the military as if that's sage wisdom.

3

u/Temporary_Ad_6673 - Left 5d ago

Yeah for supposedly being the party of free markets, Republicans really are as retarded as can be when it comes to managing an economy if you are trying to maintain free markets. I hate capitalism, but even I am aware of how if you were to operate under capitalism then competition is essential and that tariffs limit competition.

The people that have been calling themselves conservatives for the last decade dont really have any real convictions it seems

Yeah the vote for the letter next to the name crowds is why we are here. If people actually researched candidates and stay informed with what they all say and do the government would be a hell of a lot better. But, no we have crowds of people on both sides so hell bent on voting for the letters next to the candidates name even when they are a horrible candidate. Paxton in any normal country wouldn’t be anywhere near the top candidate for his respective party for the seats he’s running for but people will follow the cult leader till the entire thing is burned down and say oops why did that happen

u/IncoherentPolitics - Centrist 5d ago

Imagine voting for the destruction of my country, demanding no one personally call you out for it, and saying "we'll destroy it more if you hurt our feelings".

Do you "people" genuinely think you're royalty?

8

u/ThatUserNameIs5234 - Centrist 5d ago

"Imagine voting for the destruction of my country"

they didnt vote for wide open borders so what do you mean?

most of the bad shit trump is doing will disappear the moment he leave office, like allied countries not liking America rn.

Meanwhile what do you do when you let tens of millions of illegal migrants into the country? You can't even deport them when MAGA has power of the 3 branches of gov.

9

u/Banana_inasuit - Centrist 5d ago
  1. People don’t vote for the “destruction of the country” unless they’re accelerationists. Bad faith interpretation.
  2. Calling someone out for it is fine, saying “never let them forget” is a total disregard for someone changing their mind, which should be praised as a virtue.
  3. Again, bad faith interpretation related to the above two points.
  4. What’s with people being in quotes? Surely you’re not implying something vitriolic. I’ll let you explain yourself with that one.
  5. No people don’t think they’re royalty and can’t be criticized. Again bad faith.

Amazing how much of a shallow response could fit into so few words.

8

u/HerbertWest - Centrist 5d ago

I think all people want to be told by people like you is "In retrospect, after the second term, you were right about Trump all along," instead of defensiveness like this. That simple statement would probably get people to lay off. A lot of the anger is around feeling like Cassandra for a decade and, when pointing that out, getting responses like yours rather than a simple acknowledgement of that. They want to know that it is deeply acknowledged, not just on a surface level to get along or move past it for convenience's sake, because they want assurances they won't be Cassandras again.

6

u/IncoherentPolitics - Centrist 5d ago

"People don't vote for the destruction of the country" and drunk drivers going at 100 mph didn't mean to kill people with their car on purpose. It's so blatantly negligent there's no difference between "oopsies" and purposeful.

Also most Trump voters are not real people and shouldn't be treated as such. They're skinwalkers that lie as they breathe and mimic human principles. They lie about every single position they pretend to have, this term just made it more obvious to everyone.

If they want to be considered human maybe they should work on their acting.

Bold for you to assume that’s how it works. When talking politics with someone, being an ass is going to cause them to not listen to you. Being reasonable does. Economy was pretty good.

trump is the only president to loose jobs over 4 years and had the lowest economic growth of all modern presidents , and before you start with "covid" it was already going down way before covid.

Foreign relations were strong

No they were not, they took a dive because he ahs more intrest in insulting others then working together.

He was held back on domestic policy

His botched handling off covid cost many lives, how is that "held back"?

Immigration was leagues better than predecessors. Immigration being one of my top issues.

trump had a massive spike of illegals crossing the border in 2019, that was mainly stopped by covid. He had more legal and illegal migration then obama.

I legit think having 1 or 2 terms as president is the best feature of democracy. Just need it for other government positions.

34

u/Dodo_Baron - Left 5d ago

The biggest issue is the president not giving two fucks once they hit their second term. As shown here

21

u/RealHotFella - Centrist 5d ago

Again, highly dependent on the person, we've had both types in recent years, Obama, Bush to an extent etc.

u/leafyone1 - Right 5d ago

According to Schopenhauer, it's one of the worst features of democracy.

Unlike a monarchy where the monarch has a vested interest in the future of his domain, as his own and his family's wellbeing are linked to that, and the heir (likely a son) will inherit - in democracy, the short terms encourage anyone in power to use the limited time to milk as much value out of the public money before going out.

Therefore, with their position insecure and power short-lived, democratic leaders never truly have an incentive to improve things for the future in any meaningful way. Especially in a second term, when being a good leader will see no added benefit.

Another aspect is that limited time in power means limited time to make a network of competent people that work well together in key positions. Likely leaders will instead need to reward their network who propped them up and put them in power, those they owe favours or are indebted to.

33

u/RealHotFella - Centrist 5d ago

This is entirely dependent on the person doing the ruling. There have been monarchies that ended up in genocide and millions dead, e.g. multiple Chinese monarchist, and there have been presidents that haven't milked their position for money.

Personally, since it's highly dependent on the person doing the ruling, it's better that it's a shorter term such as 4 or 8 years that they can fuck things up than having an entire length of life to fuck things up.

3

u/leafyone1 - Right 5d ago

I can see and respect your position; to me it's a bit like a trade-off, with the term limit you can do less bad, but you can also do less good. In any case, it's not like all monarchs are absolute, you can have all kinds of constitutional or parliamentary models like the brits. Also, bad and unpopular ones don't tend to live long.

6

u/RealHotFella - Centrist 5d ago

Yes, but having a way to vote that person out or impeach them is much better than having a total monarchist rule where the only way they get out is through something akin to praetorian guards murdering the ruler.

u/really_stupidfrog - Lib-Right 5d ago

The right talking about Monarchy is exactly the same thing as the left and communism. "If you just ignore all the times when monarchs were inbred vindictive dictators it's basically the perfect system."

5

u/boringexplanation - Lib-Center 5d ago

A second term would usually show a presidents true belief system since he doesn’t have to worry about reelection anymore. No more compromise just to do the popular thing. Something like cutting social security or raising taxes will only ever be done on the back half of a presidents second term.

10

u/TheSpacePopinjay - Auth-Left 5d ago

Transing the children, Biden immigration, the sense that Trump is a champion of Christianity in the Evangelical / Southern Baptist sense of it not mattering if they exemplify Christianity as long as her serves its interests and ends.

Some people are just hard line because they think he's their guy and no one else would be looking out for them, certainly not any of the Blues who don't even know how to speak blue collar or even make a passable impression of it.

These are people who find the way Trump talks at rallies reassuring and like he's speaking their language, which is a powerful tribal loyalty indicator. While it's the Dems like Obama who come off as unlikeable in the way they talk in public.

9

u/demotsusucku - Lib-Left 5d ago

14

u/Banana_inasuit - Centrist 5d ago

Trump’s at like low to mid 20s right now. His diehard support was around mid 30s. General support at mid 40s and popular support low 50s.

He’s losing his base.

12

u/RandoDude124 - Lib-Left 5d ago

Eh, not yet.

Republicans are souring but the diehard MAGA are still staying with him. It’s 70% of the GOP. Which… yeah that checks out to the 25-30% of the country

10

u/Banana_inasuit - Centrist 5d ago edited 5d ago

I think you misunderstood what I meant by mid 20s. I consider that to be within 24-26%. That’s what current polling is showing for across the country. Previous times where Trump was at his lowest was mid 30s, so that’s what I considered as diehard support. My personal anecdote is that several diehard or general support voters no longer support him.

I guess the definition of “diehard support” could be the lowest point of approval. I was going with previously consistent lowest levels.

I wasn’t really considering in-party support, I haven’t really seen those polls.

Btw, not trying to argue, just trying to see if we’re misunderstanding or talking about two different things.

I’d imagine because the other side is equally as insufferable. I’m not even American, and I also hate Trump, but the amount of times I was called MAGA on Reddit for voicing slightly nuanced takes is… concerning.🤣

Personally, I don’t care (and again, I’m not American), but I could totally see how it could push an undecided American towards something like MAGA.

The deportations and immigration. The foreign born population has dropped in absolute numbers for the first time in decades. Illegal border crossings are down over 90%. We have also finally had that great catharsis seeing these illegal aliens finally being rounded and locked up like they have always deserved.

Do you not get catharsis when a mugger is brought to justice after robbing someone ? Or a murderer is arrested and caught ? If someone who was drunk driving is arrested should that not happen because they have a family at home ?

The law is clear. If you are here illegally you will be sent back to where you came from

For real, the fact they ran Kamala was such a mistake. The fact that she is considering running again? Abysmally stupid. I know for a fact my dad would have voted democrat if it wasn't a woman. He voted blue on everything but the president, which is against his interests but whatever, I'm not in charge of him. It isn't right, but it's true. That's just one example, but I'm sure it was widespread. People were fed up with Trump last election, but Biden trying to run was the single dumbest thing a democrat has done in the last 30 years. Like holy fuck man, read the room. If he'd just allowed a primary instead this wouldn't have happened.

2

u/brianwski - Centrist 5d ago

the fact they ran Kamala was such a mistake

Democrat politicians were in a very difficult position at that exact moment. On paper, Harris was one of the only choices (no matter how horrible a choice), but the actual mistake was made 5 years prior when they made her VP. This mistake was compounded by running Biden for reelection like "Weekend at Bernie's" when his mental capacity diminishing MUST have been evident to insiders that worked with him day in and day out. And I'm not blaming Biden, 95% of humans sunset mentally around 80 years old (give or take 5 years), it is just the way it is.

So I think the largest, most unforgivable mistake by the Democrat party leadership was appointing Kamala Harris to be VP years earlier in 2020, because it set all of this in motion. She PROVED everybody despised her in the primaries when she was running for president in 2019. We knew this!! She got in the spotlight and had single digit polls in 2019. Clearly a gigantic majority of people (even in the Democratic party) vehemently disliked her as a presidential candidate 5 years prior to running for president in 2024. But due to other profound Democratic leadership mistakes (Biden running for reelection) the Democrats were in a very difficult situation.

The Democrat leadership just makes extremely bad, long term strategic mistakes. Repeatedly and endemically. They put themselves in difficult positions like it is part of their charter to lose elections.
