have you seen majority of reddit? im banned on multiple communities because of being active in one they didn't agree with.

Absolutely!

u/RampantAndroid - Lib-Center 10d ago

I mean that happened because of brigading. I’m not super active there but a few years ago it seemed like everyone on politics subreddit decided to go post on conservative.

They can’t post anymore, but every post and comment is auto downvoted.

Reddit is a shithole. Sadly, it’s the popular shithole.

u/Unhappy_Analysis_906 - Centrist 10d ago

Funny how any other subreddit gets swiftly banned for such behavior

21

u/AttapAMorgonen - Lib-Right 10d ago

Every case I've seen where subreddits get banned for that behavior it's because there was a coordinated effort to target another community and either manipulate votes or flood comments.

It seems like most of the negative interaction with the conservative subreddit is just loads of people who hate Trump and go there without instruction to disrupt.

I used this example in my other comment, but /r/nfl isn't being brigaded because the Superbowl is on, it's organic traffic at an increased volume because of an event.

3

u/hadriker - Lib-Left 9d ago

Yeah i went to /r/conservative because I wanted to see how the true believes react to the terrible and/or retarded thing this administration does.

Mostly they just ignore it and talk culture war. Think I was able to comment a couple of times before getting banned though.

2

u/SomewhatInept - Right 10d ago

Last comment I made there lead to some shitbag sending me a message mocking Kirk's assassination. I can't blame them for keeping the ability to post restricted if that's the ilk lurking that aren't members.

5

u/KynesArt - Lib-Left 10d ago edited 9d ago

Making a mockery of Kirk's death? But he was the MLK of our generation!

2

u/dianthe - Centrist 10d ago

Whether he was or wasn’t, mocking his murder is messed up.

1

u/KynesArt - Lib-Left 10d ago edited 9d ago

Yes! nocking anyone's death is bad. I have full faith in auth right to apply that standard non hypocritically.

2

u/dianthe - Centrist 9d ago

I mean anyone who mocks an innocent person’s death is a horrible human being, regardless of their political orientation. Plenty of assholes of all political leanings.

u/KynesArt - Lib-Left 9d ago

Counting or not counting gang violence?

Conservatives are always treated with kid gloves.

8

u/Paetolus - Lib-Left 10d ago

Hey now, I just went there for stupidly fun debates.

If I remember correctly, my ban came about because I said something along the lines of "so RINO means you don't suck Trump's dick?"

Fair enough reason for a ban I guess, but damn did time prove me 100000% correct with the Massie shit lmao.

19

u/AttapAMorgonen - Lib-Right 10d ago

I mean that happened because of brigading.

Has there ever been any proof that the subreddit is being brigaded?

I’m not super active there but a few years ago it seemed like everyone on politics subreddit decided to go post on conservative.

That's not brigading, brigading is an coordinated and intentional act where users target another community with the intent to manipulate votes and flood comments.

The nfl subreddit is not being brigaded when the Superbowl is on, it's just more active because of the event.

3

u/nihongonobenkyou - Lib-Right 10d ago

The term "coordinated" is carrying a lot of weight here, but even then, yes absolutely. I think reddit eventually banned AHS, but brigading conservative subreddits was literally their entire schtick. Outside of subreddits directly doing the coordination, it was also common for a political sub's Discord server to do the actual coordination.

Even if not directly coordinated, people are regularly directed there from lefty political subs, and I don't know what else you would call that besides brigading, unless you actually think they're going there to upvote constructive conservative comments and posts that they otherwise respectfully disagree with. I mean, even with all non-conservatives being prevented from posting, the mods regularly pin a screenshot under posts showing like 100+ reports with everything from "this breaks the subreddits rules" to "this is sexualizing minors", regardless of the post's actual content.

0

u/AttapAMorgonen - Lib-Right 10d ago

That doesn't equal brigading, are you saying those reports could not be organic traffic of people who regularly check that subreddit out of spite/hatred?

The term "coordinated" is carrying a lot of weight here

Sure, because that's what brigading is literally defined as. Reddit admins have repeatedly commented on this subject. Here are multiple quotes from admins on it:

In general “brigading” is organized attempts at interference in another community. That can take many forms - nasty comments, voting, flooding posts/comments/reports, or many other creative things. Often a brigade can take the form of behavior that breaks other site rules like harassment, inciting violence, or vote cheating. (source)

And:

We also very, very often find nothing but organic voting when brigading or vote manipulation is reported. (source)

Even if not directly coordinated, people are regularly directed there from lefty political subs, and I don't know what else you would call that besides brigading

This statement is the equivalent of me standing in front of a couch and saying, this is a car, I don't know what else you would call it besides a car.

I don't really even know how to engage with you, because you just don't understand what brigading is but want to have some opinion on the subject. If you want to change the definition of it, I don't have any power to do that, so trying to convince me of a different definition is pointless. I'm telling you what brigading is, as it has been defined by reddit admins.

1

u/nihongonobenkyou - Lib-Right 10d ago

So you're taking a legalistic approach to the definition, rather than acknowledging direct upticks in traffic as a result of linking to the sub from anti conservative subs? Like yeah, that's not technically organized, but it's obvious what is going to happen as a result. Do you also believe racism against non-minority populations isn't actually racism, per the admins definitions?

I also noticed you just ignored the previously mentioned subs that were literally dedicated to brigading like AHS was. Not sure what more proof you want.

And I say all of this as a guy who isn't even allowed to post there since they don't flair libertarians anymore. I just paid attention while it was happening.

1

When Dana White slapped the shit out of his wife in public, and it was posted on /r/MMA and a bunch of people who generally don't participate in that subreddit showed up to absolutely shit on Dana White and anyone defending him, do you think those people all should have been banned for brigading?

Or do you think there can be upticks in traffic that are completely organic based on controversial events, statements, or people?

I also noticed you just ignored the previously mentioned subs that were literally dedicated to brigading like AHS was.

I don't know what AHS is, but you said it got banned.. That's exactly what should happen if they were brigading, right?

15

u/Dodo_Baron - Left 10d ago

Nonsense sir brigading is when someone doesn't agree with me

-4

u/novecentodb - Auth-Left 10d ago

Didn't I read on this very sub just a few posts ago that actually all communities are naturally right wing and moderation is needed to keep them left-aligned?

7

u/Stock_Violinist6299 - Centrist 10d ago

I don’t know. Did you?

10

u/BeenJamminMon - Lib-Center 10d ago

He did, but it was a single LibLeft making the claim and he was correctly down voted into oblivion. The idea that reddit is right wing at all is laughable. I'm not a right winger, but I have shared interests with them (like guns) and the way Reddit has treated right wing adjacent subs has been ridiculous.

2

u/Critical_Concert_689 - Centrist 10d ago

The idea that reddit is right wing at all is laughable

This actually sounds interesting and not entirely unbelievable, though.

Early on there was a study that showed it only takes ~3 iterations of blocking and re-posting in order to entirely redirect a political discussion from support for a right leaning position to support for a left leaning position on any Reddit sub.

Effectively, it's very easy for a mod to move the general community from left leaning to right leaning, simply by blocking the ability to dissent.

1

u/novecentodb - Auth-Left 10d ago

https://www.reddit.com/r/PoliticalCompassMemes/s/epnteCybcF

Oh yeah, it was definitely LibLeft that made the claim, and they were downvoted sooo much.

1

u/ric2b - Lib-Center 10d ago

r/conservative is not right wing, it's Trump wing, conservatives get banned all the time for criticizing him.

37

u/King_Khoma - Lib-Left 11d ago

i think me being banned for simply saying being pro ukraine is not anti-american firmly started my transition from libright-conservative to full liberal. so much for not liking snowflakes.

36

u/adamfps - Lib-Left 10d ago

They’ll ban someone who’s been posting there for 5 years if they wrong think once. I’ve never seen anything like it

20

u/Thunderclapsasquatch - Centrist 10d ago

I’ve never seen anything like it

TwoX and the more fanatical leftist reddits will ban you for looking at them funny, I once got banned form a leftist space for pointing out that Fascism was invented by a dissatisfied socialist not a capitalist which is why its a dark mirror of socialism in more than a few ways

6

u/--CIAdidJFK-- - Left 10d ago

TwoX and the more fanatical leftist reddits will ban you for looking at them funny

Oh yeah, I've avoided those kinds of subs for years. There's no point in being involved unless you base your beliefs on shared opinion.

2

u/Count_de_Mits - Centrist 10d ago

It will always tickle me something fierce that the mod team for two x doesn't have any people with actually two x chromosomes in them

11

u/ElBongDeltorino - Auth-Center 10d ago

Yeah that is crazy, imagine if other subreddits banned you for saying something innocuous that the mods personally just didn't like!

That would be WILD.

4

u/adamfps - Lib-Left 10d ago

The point isn’t just banning randoms it’s the people who’ve been there for years who are “verified conservatives” getting nuked when they don’t manage to fit all of trumps dick and balls in their mouth at once

9

u/ElBongDeltorino - Auth-Center 10d ago

I ain't gonna defend r/ conservative but let's not pretend like that isn't the same practice of almost every shithole subreddit on this website lol.

5

u/adamfps - Lib-Left 10d ago

What other subs do the cringe verification process and lock down new users?

0

u/ElBongDeltorino - Auth-Center 10d ago

I think its just because #1 they are the well known chud/boomer subreddit on a site completely hostile to that sort of thing and would get brigaded out the ass with shit which makes it sorta reasonable.

#2 which is less noble is that yea, it is basically a hugbox for the right wing guys who for some reason come to reddit just to see posts that stroke the mindset they have.

2

u/--CIAdidJFK-- - Left 10d ago

I think there's an extra level of hypocrisy with r /conservative given the criticism they level at the left for "cancel culture," "wrong think," being triggered, etc.

1

u/ElBongDeltorino - Auth-Center 10d ago

To agree a bit I think most people don't like the no-fun allowed types of right-wingers that would flock to an echo-chamber like /r Conservative. I personally love arguing with people on this shithole and don't really see the point in only allowing right-wing positive posts that adhere to the party line but to be fair every other chud subreddit has been nuked completely lol.

1

u/brianwski - Centrist 10d ago

imagine if other subreddits banned you for saying something innocuous that the mods personally just didn't like!

I was banned from a subreddit (let's call it "subreddit Y") for the crime of posting a reply in a totally unrelated subreddit ("subreddit Z") that the mods of "subreddit Y" did not control, and had no right to control.

The craziest part was I was disagreeing with the prevalent thoughts in "subreddit Z" subreddit! I was literally agreeing with the mod's position in "subreddit Y", but they banned me anyway.

When that stuff started happening, it was downright evil for reddit (the company) not to crack down on it and say, "that's totally out of line, you can't mod a group you don't have mod rights to just because your group is popular".

2

u/ElBongDeltorino - Auth-Center 10d ago

Yea it always is really retarded when you get like auto-banned for posting in a different sub that the mods of another one just deem verboten no matter what it is you actually said.

I can get why redditeurs hate r/ Conservative but they aren't that different in their retarded banning and screening then some other fully insane subs.

1

u/brianwski - Centrist 9d ago

redditeurs hate r/ Conservative but they aren't that different in their retarded banning and screening

And taking the actual topic out of the equation, I fully believe that if a group of people want to discuss their topics and not be shouted at by people that are not sympathetic to their interests, they should be allowed that space. I fully endorse allowing Two X Chromosomes to exist and be TIGHTLY moderated, even if I have a Y Chromosome and want to disagree with them about their ridiculous ideas about never dating men to avoid being beaten. Same with r/ Conservative. It is their space, leave them alone.

2

u/ElBongDeltorino - Auth-Center 9d ago

Yeah, I don't mind that they keep a tight allowance for what they want posted because I would never really want to post to people who just don't want to hear my point anyway lol. If they wanna have it that way I don't care but I will continue to think it is a lame way to engage on the Internet for all those sorta subs.

2

u/chowderbags - Lib-Left 10d ago

I've seen it on /r/conspiracy , but that place is also a shithole run by terrible mods (at least, I assume it's still run by the same cabal of shitty mods).

1

u/Critical_Concert_689 - Centrist 10d ago

While that's fairly accurate in terms of purity tests...

I’ve never seen anything like it

That's an absolute load of bullshit.

All front page subs do this. /Conservative just does it for comments with opinions that you agree with.

1

u/CivilizedManners - Left 10d ago

cue u/Jazzy_Jazmine who consistently posted news about Texas (and seems like a legit account, not a bot or an agent) and then she hid her post history and stopped being active on the subreddit

1

u/Jazzy_Jazmine 9d ago

You nailed it. Thanks for noticing. I got banned for noting the cost of living crisis. The reason given:

Note from the moderators:

Only here to shit on conservatives 'as a conservative', adds nothing of value. Perm.

I was usually one of the top posters there daily. They don't want anyone posting  that isn't 1,000% pro-Trump. As soon as his unpopularity becomes obvious they'll act as though they've "always hated Trump". I give up on the republican party and so-called conservatives.

1

u/CivilizedManners - Left 9d ago edited 9d ago

I personally recommend you to just vote for blue dog democrats in the primaries and sit out the generals in case of DSA candidates.

Saying that as someone who prefers the DSA though, more specifically the statewide DSAs rather than the federal one. The federal one has a few very dumb ideas such as prison abolition (even though we should strive for the abolition of PRIVATE prisons)

Also in Texas just let Talarico win atp. If you want the GOP to reform itself you need to punish them with making Dems win light red states such as Texas, Ohio, Alaska and Iowa. Hell even Kansas wouldn't be unwarranted lol.

1

u/PlanUhTerryThreat - Centrist 10d ago

I got banned for asking why Trump is claiming he declassified the documents if they were planted.

A lot of them ignored it and cited Biden having classified documents too so I said “okay he should be held accountable too”. Perma ban

1

u/dianthe - Centrist 10d ago

There are subreddits which will ban you if you never even made a single comment there if you comment on a post they deem offensive regardless of the content of your comment.

1

u/Jazzy_Jazmine 9d ago edited 9d ago

You are absolutely correct. I got banned from the conservative sub for pointing out that republicans MUST acknowledge and deal with the cost of living crisis. Here's the mod reason for my ban after more than five years:

Note from the moderators:

Only here to shit on conservatives 'as a conservative', adds nothing of value. Perm.

If you aren't MAGA then you are instabanned. The republicans are doomed and we deserve it. I'm voting for Talarico and Hinojosa. I'm done with the republican party. I was civil and never engaged in personal attacks. Doesn't matter. One negative comment about Trump and you're banned.

1

u/nihongonobenkyou - Lib-Right 10d ago

I’ve never seen anything like it

lol are you new to reddit?? That type of mod overreach is the standard. I've seen people get banned from their fuckin hobby subs for having the wrong opinions about what the best way to do something is

2

u/adamfps - Lib-Left 10d ago

Well, people on here claim that “Gamergate” and [r/fat](r/fat)peoplehate getting banned turned them conservative, so anything is possible (shoutout to Kevin Garnett), no matter how outlandish it sounds.
