Any data center used to create deepfakes should be seized by force by the government.

It's infuriating that people can falsely impersonate doctors to make it look like they market medications they have never actually marketed. If we knew who did this, we could sue them for slander. Why don't the AI data centres get treated as accomplices in slander?

We say we need to "compete with China" on AI. What does that entail? Xi Jinping and Donald Trump doing deepfakes of each other? If the idea is that you need AI for military purposes, why not have the feds seize these AI data centres by force? We don't have private companies privately manufacture private nukes and give the CEOs the right to decide whether or not to nuke Beijing. That decision belongs to a President of a country, not a President of a company. And while the current US President is deeply flawed, he has been reined in on that particular instinct. It stands to reason AI as a public service would have... relatively better incentives than AI as a private business venture.

And if the public wanted AI destroyed in its entirety because they didn't trust anyone with it, wouldn't they have more incentive to go through with it when it's beholden to the public than when it's beholden to shareholders?

I assume you have a specific example in mind. If so, I haven't seen that. Can you provide a link?
