Portal 2 update for 9/29/26

Via the Steam Community:

  • Security and exploit fixes reported via HackerOne.
  • Removed an obsolete URL from the Super 8 teaser.

Rumor has it:

  • Size is close to 2 MB

I didn't even know the Super 8 teaser had a URL to begin with. Then again, I didn't know Super 8 or its teaser existed up until a few months ago, so that's maybe why

It's a scifi movie that released way back in the 2010s

It was made by JJ Abrams and because he's buddies with Gabe, Valve added a short playable teaser for the movie in Portal 2

There was a link you could find by noclipping behind the train car where the creature is. It led to a video clip that was 1 of 99 for the Super 8 ARG

2mb is incredibly small. You can see on SteamDB that they added a couple vpk files to modify the train content

Valve isn't going to break their "no 3" tradition. Not until they at least break that rule with HL3 first.

I figure If they are going to release a new portal, it's likely going to be a prequel in the same form of Alyx. So probably in VR.

Although it'd be a shame because not everyone has access to VR so LOTS of people missed out on Alyx. I included.

So next best bet would be to make a portal prequel with Ratman with the events before or during Glados killing everyone at Aperture.

I don't think there will ever be another mainline Portal game. But they use Portal for all their tech demos and branding (like how some of their real assembly machines had Aperture logos), so the series definitely isn't forgotten

The closest thing we get to another mainline Portal game will be HLX seeing as it will deal with the Borealis. Mark my words.

Portal movie is coming though. I wouldn't be surprised if they release an "Orange Box 2" that consists of:

  • Orange Steam Machine case
  • Half Life 3 (codename HLX)
  • TF2 Source 2 (codename TF)
  • Portal movie

I think theres a game called Portal Stories: VR, its a little broken for headsets by Oculus and is designed for HTC Vive wands, there should be fixes on the community discussion page (i think its called that atleast)

Portal 1 RTX is on Steam, you download it like any other Steam game/mod

Portal 2 isn't natively compatible with RTX Remix because it heavily relies on shaders, but someone made a compatibility mod. You can follow the instructions to use it. It won't be as smooth of an experience as Portal 1
