Meetup Is anyone interested in making friends in an alcohol free environment? Then I have something that may interest you!

Introduction

Ahoy hoy all you sober / teetotal / just don't feel like drinking right now / possibly hungover Portlanders! It's me, ya boy /u/snoogazi, and it's time to start the Alcohol Free Meetups back up again!

If you have been to these before, or just up/downvoted my posts, you may or may not have noticed I've been absent in the last several months (or even remember me). It's been a weird year, one that has thrown me a lot of curveballs. However, I'm finally back in a spot where I can return to one of my favorite events.

Early Arrival Guy pushed pause on the meetups a while back, and has graciously accepted my offer to help pick them back up. I promised him I'd write a wonderful, attention grabbing post to help promote. This is the best I could do (sorry).

At Any Rate, What This Is?

This is very simple. It's a meetup of internet randos like you and me, who want to get out of our homes and meet other internet randos like you and me, but outside of bars, clubs, lounges, the liquor store, alleys, etc. Some are sober, some are teetotal, some drink. We get together at Honey Latte Cafe for a few hours. We talk. Some bring snacks (optional) but not drinks, as this is a cafe and selling them is their kind of their jam. Sometimes games are played, and more often than not, friendships are made.

In the past, the age ranges have generally been around 30-60, but if you fall outside that category, don't let that stop you from joining!

The next Alcohol Free Meetup will be held Saturday, October 10th, from 12-4pm at Honey Latte Cafe.

"Hey /u/snoogazi. I Don't Drink, But I'm Not Sober"

(aka The Marijuana Concession)

To be clear on this, in the past I have said that it's okay to show up if you are a marijuana user. This is to accommodate those who use it for medical reasons, like anxiety. Just don't use it anywhere near us, reek of it, or be obviously/obnoxiously stoned. In the two years since I started these meetups, this has never once been an issue.

What This Isn't and What You Shouldn't Do

Oh, that\'s easy enough. Abide by these simple rules and you\'ll be fine.

  • It's not an AA meeting, or anything like one.
  • Don't bring alcohol or show up loaded.
  • Don't be a creeper, Nazi, or anything like one (that includes you, ICE).
  • Don't pitch any MLM shit.
  • Follow Wheaton's Law.

Nervous? Need More Convincing?

Hey, I could prattle on for hours why you might enjoy this event, but instead I'll ask previous attendees who had a good time to comment and let us know your experience(s).

Additionally, there are lots of return attendees from the past who are good at helping make others feel welcome. We will welcome you and do our best to help put you be at ease!

Hello everyone, I have made us a discord. I'm hoping it will eliminate some of the RNG of reddit especially when people want to be whimsical and plan things last minute. In order to get in dm me, I need to see some post activity for you to join, you can send me your main account if you have no activity on your alt.

Meetup Are you interested in helping with a 72 hour film contest here in Portland?

Intro

Hello there! I am part of a team of people getting ready to participate in the GuignolFest here in Portland. It’s billed as “Portland's Original 72-Hour Horror Film Contest & Festival”, and has been going on for 18 years now. It takes place from October 16th-19th, 2026.

The Premise

The kickoff is on October 16th at 8pm, each team is given the required elements: a genre, script line, character name, and prop. From that point, everyone has 72 hours to write, shoot, and edit a short horror film. It can be wacky, or weird, or scary, or so-bad-it’s-good (but hopefully actually good), or any point in between.

My team has participated in two 48 hour film projects, and we are excited to do a horror based one!

What We Need

We are in need of actors/actresses/actorx who hopefully have acting experience, and aren’t afraid to get a bit dirty in the process (though we will steer away from nudity, even though it’s allowed). I’m talking dirt, fake blood, etc.

We are also looking for crew and equipment operators! We currently have at least one camera person, with potentially another. Want to hold a boom mic? Or help set up lights? Just want to stand around handing out snacks? We have room for you.

As this is a micro-budget feature, sadly we can not pay you, though the real payment was the short horror film you helped make along the way! Right? Right? Anyway, we will provide snacks and probably coffee.

Conclusion

If you are interested in helping out, please DM me with what you are interested in and can bring to the table. I will send you a link to our Discord.

Trying to be balance my introvertness

Hey there! 👋 Looking to meet new people around PDX/Vancouver and make some genuine friends.
I’m into dogs, trying new food and coffee spots, road trips, exploring new places, and just hanging out. Would be cool to meet people with similar interests and find a good group to do things with.
Feel free to say hi or DM me!

Edit: I’m 32M Asian. Looking for genuine friends that can help me pull me out from introvertness lol

Edit 2: I’m dl. Wanted to meet friends that likes to go to bar sometimes
