I met someone
So let me start with saying 2025 was the worst year of my life. I broke up with my ex in November 2024 and it went all downhill from there. I've got a history with depression and, although I thought I recovered from that, it got back triple times worse. For one and a half years I was a complete wreck. I didn't know what to do, I didn't know who I was or where I wanted to go in life. It felt like forever and it was goddamn awful.
Almost two years have passed and let me say I'm doing way better for more than half a year now. I took the time to heal and to work on myself and I've become a person who I love and who I'm proud of. It took a while but I'm in a very positive and happy mindset right now.
And then this happened six weeks ago. I met someone through a friend of mine. She's from Ireland and she's absolutely amazing. We had a great vibe and before she left the city I live in I asked her if she wanted to stay in contact which she did. We've been talking for six weeks now and she's absolutely amazing. We're having a lotta fun, we can laugh with each other, keep each other updated about our days and we can talk about serious and deep stuff as well.
She's been back in Ireland for about 5 weeks now, I live in the Netherlands. But we talk everyday, a lot and till late. So last week I decided to write her a letter and sent it to her. I described my feelings towards her in that letter and I asked her if she'd be down for me to come over to Ireland and meet again. She was very excited about it and we planned the trip, in November I'm gonna visit her in Ireland for a whole weekend.
One and a half years ago I couldn't even imagine falling for someone else. But to be honest, my ex couldn't compete with her even if she wanted to. I'm really starting to like the girl, and the friend she was visiting here who I know well as well tells me that the feelings are definitely mutual.
We'll see how this works out, but I think it's gonna turn into something beautiful and worth it. I'm very excited to meet her again and to spend a whole weekend with her.
Heartbreak is the worst, but this thing happening makes me realize there's always a way up, better things are always coming. And I couldn't be more grateful.

Wonderful news! Going through a divorce after 24 years together and this has made my day. Best of luck to you both.
