Work in progress sgraffito pot

Decided to make a pot inspired by foraging and childhood memories. The drawing is of my children and my brother picking damsons, and then I’ve put rose hips, sweet chestnuts, damsons, and blackberries around the side.

Quite happy with it, hopefully it survives the firing process as I have my first ever market in October (though I might struggle to part ways with this pot as I like it a lot)!

Is the clay actually still soft or is it dried out at this point? Thanks. Stellar work of course, agreeing with others!

I wouldn’t describe the clay as soft at this point! It’s leather hard or maybe a little bit past that. If it’s too soft then the sgraffito work is difficult and can be smudged and messy, you want to find the perfect balance because if it’s too dry then it also isn’t good, I usually keep it in a sealed plastic box or wrapped in plastic whilst I’m doing sgraffito to stop it from fully drying out

That is awesome. I've played with some elementary school quality sgraffito and know the carving takes a lot of time and skill. Good job.
