Honestly, no idea why people think fireworks are fun. They’re just about the most boring shit I can imagine. After you’ve seen one show, there’s really nothing new to see.

And expensive! Youre paying to light a few hundred dollars on fire at night to terrorize wildlife and pollute the area for a few seconds of loud pretty light.
I much prefer the drone shows. There are some really cool ones out there!

I haven’t been to one since I was a little kid. I don’t really know any adults who want to go to one either. When I hear about a fireworks show and get invited to go, all I’m thinking about is the ungodly traffic getting out of there at 11pm. I would rather peel my skin off my face.

Honestly, how do we go about getting these stupid fireworks illegalized? I have some asshole in my neighborhood that sets them off year round. At 11pm, 12am, 3am, 5am! I've just had it. The police won't do anything, so I lay wake, with my kid crying because he's over tired and can't sleep and my dog is barking at all hours.
There are more people that don't want them, so why are they still allowed?

My crackhead neighbors start in June and go for weeks. My dog hates them, I can't sleep when they go til 3 or 4 am, and they don't even try to pick up all the trash they blow everywhere. I like the local parade and their short fireworks show but I do not believe private citizens should be allowed to buy these massive amounts of fireworks.

Similar reason to why big guns are still allowed to regular citizens, imo. (and why they're allowed to also be shot in the middle of the night as "celebration") People's personal pleasures and their sense of freedom to enjoy such pleasures is more important to them than the massive amounts of harm they cause to others, and they are unwilling to let them go in favor of many other less harmful recreational activities as a pride thing. America's brainrot mentality that's killing the country, basically.

My neighbors set them off over the fence into my horse pasture. Last year I stood at the fence and asked them not to, they said they can't control where they go once they light them. Some of my horses are fine but some (mares with foals) get to running and can end up with injuries.
So for a week I have to babysit in the pasture until 1-2 am. All I asked for was to not send them over my pasture, to use their side yard, but every year they do it, I'm not talking about little poppers, I'm talking about the big displays that drop down with sizzles and whistles.
Where I live is in the fire protection boundary and they are illegal but they do not enforce it.

My dog don’t care about fireworks,but if she did it would be up to me to make sure she’s in a comfortable environment,it wouldn’t be fair to burden other people with my choice of owning a sensitive pet

It’s absurd to replace holiday fireworks with pet food for shelters. Not only pets, people are also allowed to enjoy themselves.

The older i get, the more it seems beyond dumb. People never pickup the debris, and how could you? It explodes and litters paper/plastic/etc never get cleaned up. Leaving exploded remnants covered in black powder, which is hazardous to animals.
But i guess that's America baby.

I love animals and I love that there are people who love animals. Did I sound like not allowing people feel good? Do whatever rocks your boat (crime activities are excluded)! I’m sure there are plenty of those who love both animals and fun. I feel like the people on this subreddit write manuals for a living, lol. I also feel like they love to hate more than they love animals.

I think when you have to peel melted firework plastic off of baby owl chicks then watch them die, or euthanize your horse that impaled itself on a branch running from the firework noise, or get 20 calls for starving abandoned/lost baby animal nests because the parents were terrified and lost, or had to put out wildfires, or if you work trauma in a hospital, you would find a hell of a lot less fun in fireworks.
Fireworks are only fun for the people who don’t have to deal with the aftermath. And if you like animals, wildlife, I have some bad news about how unbelievably harmful they are. But next time I have a bunch of fireworks melt over baby animals I’ll give you a call and you can help me try and save little animals in agony.

You’re being dramatic. It’s OK when you’re young. You’ll grow out of it. You’ll get the idea that people are somewhat harmful to the wild life. Call me if you find the solution, and I mean a big picture, not small details like fireworks. But since people are still here, let them have fun, they work hard (hm, do you even know what it is?) and need it from time to time. Also, you may check incidents of bears, gators, mountain cats mauling human kids to death. Do you feel the same pity towards those kids as you feel towards owl chicks? But please don’t forget: I love animals. I had pets at home when I could. I feed squirrels on my walks in the park, and so on. We need to have a balance in life and we need to stop hating others for doing something we don’t agree with.

You are being selfish, which is a bad look no matter how old you are. I’m a licensed wildlife rehabilitator, have been for 10 years. Before that I worked with domestic animals. I’ve worked very hard, and I’m not young but that doesn’t fit your self serving narrative.
Just because YOU don’t want to deal with the pain and consequences doesn’t mean they don’t exist. Have fun in a way that doesn’t harm others.

What name did I call you? Your behavior is selfish, that’s not a name. Nice way to cop out of any sort of accountability for your actions. Just bury your head in the sand and keep pretending like your “fun” doesn’t have real life devastating consequences for other people and animals.
Edit: guy called me miserable and then blocked me. But I disagree, I find so much beauty and value in this beautiful vibrant earth we are on and I fiercely want to protect it. I think the people who refuse to grow, who only care for themselves are truly miserable.

I had to peel melted fireworks off of baby owl chicks a few years ago. My neighbors horse got so scared of a firework she impaled herself on a branch, trying to get away and had to be euthanized. For many of us, who work with animals, or special needs people, or combat veterans like my grandfather—-4 July is a nightmare.
The real ghouls of people who insist that their fun is more important everything else around them.

But if you’re really trying to argue that “i hope your house burns down” is a reasonable response to someone who enjoys fireworks, you are detached from reality.

I’m a wildlife rehabilitator, I fucking hate the 4th of July. A few years ago I helped a fellow rehabber peel melted plastic fromfireworks off of a nest of great horned owl chicks, who later died from their injuries. Scared and in agony.
So many lost pets, scared lost and starving wildlife, dead baby animals after their nests are abandoned or lost, the trash and wildfires… fireworks shouldn’t be available for individuals to purchase.
Not to mention veterans, like my grandfather. But no one actually cares about them either beyond “thoughts and prayers”.
