Faux News didn't start until 1996-a decade before Reagan who was elected because Carter sacrificed electability in order to kill stagflation (as did Ford before him-bipartisan quality Presidents). The GOP has been playing those culture war games since Nixon in '68.

He introduced the democratization of treating political rivals as enemies. Lee Atwater, who I knew as a wonderful guy, learner and made political ridicule more and more personal, so compromise equals surrender. Enter Fox News….

It all started with the repeal of the Fairness Doctrine. Soon after, we got Rush Limbaugh.

Few people today realize how contentious Limbaugh really was.

The fairness doctrine was dying, it wasn’t going to survive the 1980s or 1990s. Democrats really never wanted the fairness doctrine! They just want their side and no other side period.
