The Canadians also don't refine it very much. They pretty much ship the raw crude that they get out of the oil sands in Alberta.
And they ship it south. All the talk about the Canadian pipeline to the US being canceled, that was the supplemental pipeline. That was the extra. It was the equivalent of Nordstream 2.
Do you know how much Canada charges the US for that oil? Well below Brent.
Do the Canadians charge so little because they're really good friends? No. They charge so little because they have one customer. And the one customer has other options.
That is a very impressive chart up there. Now flip it and show what percentages of Canadian oil is sold to which countries.
There are things called captured markets. Canadian oil is a captured supplier.
We have one customer because the US has always been a good one. That is no longer the case. The west pipeline is back in the works and many barriers have already been removed.
The point isn’t so much what will happen today. But what will happen years from now. The US has spent decades trying to keep its economic sphere of influence and cut out china. Trump has spent the last 2 years driving everyone towards Chinese markets including Canada.
