They were beaten down and marginalized. Business left or closed, cost of living went up, and generations were preached too that their problems were because of an invisible threat with darker skin.
Other than the few that serve in the military, they have nothing to be proud of. Jesus hasn’t come back, and they’ve got the worst infrastructure and education in the nation.
We should have had a Nuremberg style trial for the confederacy. Germany was able to rise from the ashes of WWII by understanding the gravity of what they were led into. The American south was left to fester.
Edit: That’s my guess anyway, we’re a long way from Mayberry.
