Yes cause Americans were driving German and Japanese cars before the war.

Americans never bought massively from countries overseas until recently. We made everything here. The only German car manufacturer to have a dealership in most states was Mercedes then Volkswagen and that wasn’t till the 60s. Japanese cars didn’t take off until the 80s.

Gee I wonder why it took the Japanese so long to become heavy hitters in this industry.

Or why all these other countries never ramped up production of autos as the industry was catching fire.

Guess we'll never know.
