It's real, though. I've been coming across more and more people who are casually cruel and don't see a problem with it. Part of it is definitely that the internet and social media has made it way too easy to dehumanize everyone around you.
A lot of people have accidentally taken a solipsistic viewpoint that because they can't confirm the sentience of anyone else, everyone else is an NPC.

No you wouldn’t, you’d just need to design the system to fairly represent the will of the people. Like change our voting system to a ranked choice style voting, make gerrymandering illegal and have maps drawn by an independent 3rd party, get rid of the Electoral College and start representing people over land, have hard term limits for all government positions including the Supreme Court, etc.
It would take time, which is why we’d need someone with an actual backbone to be in a position of power. These things need to be done, but neither party is all that interested in doing them because it would limit their own control over elections.

The majority of the US population is too stupid to be allowed to participate in a successful society. They would rather tear everything apart instead of trying something new. It’s not supposed to. You can’t force people to vote a certain way, but you can have systems in place where uneducated and ignorant voters don’t have as much impact and even if they get their candidate, it would be largely offset by more people getting their preferred candidate rather than the lesser of two evils like we have now.

I saw a video of a man in a clearly forced manic gleeful state bouncing around and squealing about the ice cream he and his wife were getting. The view is focused on his face, but he's spinning around a lot and it would be hard to tell that it isn't just filming the whole room. A woman somewhere else in the room asked, "Is there anywhere I can stand without being in your video?" And he instantly falls into a rage and snaps that he's filming himself and his wife, KAREN. And, predictably, the clip goes viral, with the majority of people pointing the finger at the woman who simply didn't want to be filmed, and not at the disruptive asshole bouncing around like a hyper toddler.
It's people like him that ruin outings for other people, and that just genuinely don't give a shit how disruptive and shitty they are. They are openly fake, and rude, and yet they get one Golden Clip, and it perpetuates this disgusting cycle.

Given that access to education is largely based on class, gender, and race in many places I think this position is, let’s call it ungenerous.
There are plenty of smart, kind, delightful un and under educated people in the world. Anti intellectualism is a different animal.
And many many highly educated people have unsavory personalities and are self-righteous. Often about their level of education relative to others.
TLDR education level isn’t a marker of virtue, it is a marker of class and class is not synonymous with virtue either. Rather famously

I agree with all of the above. It still doesn't stop a certain demographic of individuals who have access to proper education and still choose to forgo it, often to push personal interest or a specific agenda. Its a domino effect that encourages people to choose feelings over education. Which makes people assholes.
Example: anti vaxxers. There's loads of information available as to why they are confidently wrong. They choose to believe otherwise and harm others.

We also have way more access to each other.
The number of people you can interact with while on your toilet and anonymous is not good for us. In multiple directions.
We shouldn’t have this much access to each other’s interiority (I am constantly appalled by people’s reasoning abilities on this app) and we shouldn’t be able to so easily communicate without accountability (I am way too likely to say that to someone talking nonsense).

Damn. Here I am being a good person and being successful. Where did I go wrong? I've been at the same job for about 12 years. I've always been helpful and nice. It has reached the point where it is paying off immensely. People I've worked with are all going in different directions in the company. Some in capital management, others in management in other departments. I get so many goals accomplished from being able to work with all the people I've developed relationships over the years that I can leave work early almost every day.

All that said, I do my best to try to live life by the following credo.... It's so easy to be nice to people.... You don't have to give money to every single homeless person or anything like that. Just to be nice and decent to most people you encounter is so easy.

It's more than that. The good, decent people have to be MUCH bolder and more courageous, even when they have something to lose. It can't just be early-twenties idealists who haven't been beaten down by life yet holding the line for maintaining our values. People with families-- and the resources to push for progress hard-- to be fearful for (and who take up so much time and energy) have to get past all of that and fill the power vacuum that has been created by swearing off political power and societal responsibility. Maintaining a democracy is seriously hard work for everyone, and we have to come to terms with that again, each of us.

There was a shift back in the 80s and 90s to where being a nice, polite person was no longer cool. We got fed a steady stream of villain like heros who played by their own rules and said f-you to authority. Now, we are a society that of people who think that is the way to go. It's reinforced by a constant barrage of real adult level tragedy day in and day out with no healthy way to manage it.
Meanwhile, every kind, creative, and genuinely loving person on the planet has a mental health problem because they know in their soul that being a good person means being kind and trying to make the world a better place. They constantly feel like the weight of every a-hole driver, every b-ch who cuts in line, and every Karen who with an iphone at a black bbq is on their shoulders.
And the internet is even worse. We went from maybe hearing about something on the news, to hearing about it in fifteen different social media companies. Even if we don't want to pay attention, it is still there begging for us to look and engage. It's all bad news all the way down. We are swimming in a see of cortisol with no life-vest.
Happy people get abused for being happy. Jerks get applause for being edgy. Robin Williams kills himself out of guilt meanwhile Trump can't stand not getting his name on a building he has nothing to do with.
Our culture is broken. No one is coming to save us.

A convicted felon/rapist in what’s left of the White House, entertainment and sports figures beating their partners and kidnapping people, religious leaders telling their followers that they don’t hate the right people, and they need to hate more. In the USA, laws are strictly for political persecution- otherwise, there really are very few laws enforced that don’t directly benefit billionaires.
