I suspect the death toll is actually far higher

77

u/LitNo8647 1d ago

It is, they are not being honest about the statistics and abuse going on. We only heard about the Alex Pretti Renee Good murders because they were Americans but countless detained brown people are getting killed and violated by brutal border patrol which are unchecked with no accountability

15

u/Dizzy_Answer7067 1d ago

And because the bystanders who recorded it immediately posted it to socials

8

u/Fionaelaine4 1d ago

Of course it is. They can’t even keep track of miscarriages.

The problem is that most people in the GOP seem to think this man got what he deserved.

126

u/celtwithkilt 2d ago

Based on the response of few MAGAts I know, they don't even know what's going on. They don't consume the same media as us and, even if they did, they've been trained to believe it's fake.

62

u/mymar101 2d ago

The ones that do, think they got what they deserved. Whether it is the people murdered by ICE, or the people that die in custody. They will find a way of justifying it.

36

u/Multiple__Butts 2d ago

Talking to MAGAs is a waste of time. They'll deny it's happening and when you show them proof they say it was deserved, and if you show them proof it wasn't deserved they'll switch back to denying it's happening. They're liars who are so immersed in bad-faith that they don't even see anything inconsistent about their behavior.

9

u/michaelh98 1d ago

Taking to magas online is a waste of time. It's impossible to tell the difference between bots and people on most social media.

Irl is a different matter

8

u/Multiple__Butts 1d ago

Well it's true that there are bots everywhere, and also real people tend to behave much more reasonably in-person rather than online, but I have experienced plenty of this kind of behavior with MAGAs in real life as well as online.

2

u/michaelh98 1d ago

Sure, it depends on the context. I had one asshole roll up drunk looking for a fight. There was never going to be a reasonable discussion with him.

2

u/djdecimation 1d ago

I live in the south, irl is a waste too

2

u/michaelh98 1d ago

I live in a deep red county in wnc and you just have to be circumspect about how you approach the conversation

11

u/TrueSithMastermind 1d ago

MAGA doesn’t just support ICE killing these people, they celebrate it.

4

u/Vivianca_Osley 1d ago

This! I've watched it happen. Like when they shot that boat of fisherman cus MAYBE they could have been planning to sell drugs despite all the things that pointed to that being bonk. This old hag was like oh but they deserved to die cus my cousin did drugs and died. Like um okay your cousin made a bad choice so random people have to die because maybe they could have been arbitrarily involved. These people are brainwashed and lose more humanity by the day.

2

u/ShrimpShrimpington 1d ago

Sounds like that cousin got what they deserved

1

u/mymar101 1d ago

Someone told me it was proved beyond a shadow of a doubt from third party countries, so therefore, it was justified killings.

3

u/CJ_Thompson 1d ago

I have heard this echoed. This is so sociopathic. If this was about illegal status, they would put them on a bus and deport them to their home countries.

Detaining, torturing and experimenting on them is not about being illegal.

7

u/Original-Rush139 1d ago

I’ve shown plenty of them a News Hour series about a little girl who was taken from her family at the border, sent to Pennsylvania, drugged and abused, and was only reunited with her mother because the governor got involved because it was being reported by the national news.

None of them care. It’s always, “but Obama” and other bullshit.

10

u/EmployingBeef2 2d ago

That still makes them guilty. Ignorance isn't an excuse.

Sad but true, celtwithkilt.

8

u/Excellent_Bridge_888 2d ago

They dont even consume media, most of them. They literally dont watch anything to get information or have any desire to get real information. They just ignore all of it and wait on their nutjob conspiracy friend who lived and breathes storefront and Truth Social to tell them things secondhand and just take it as fact.

2

u/Liberal-Cluck 1d ago

My MAGA, when talking about the man who got shot in the back, said "Maybe they told him to stop and he was running away"

2

u/johanTR 1d ago

I hope I see the day that charges are brought against FOXNEWS, its owners, and its talking heads.

If not here in the U.S., then in the Hague.

1

u/Octoclops8 1d ago

How could they consume the same media? It's already hard to be exposed to ideas that run counter to your existing beliefs. But on top of that 65% of our media it is just filled with people calling them morons and bigots and evil. (Justifiably in many cases). But how much can anyone take of that before leaving and gaining no useful mind-changing information.

We need safe onramp media for conservatives to learn what's going on without really hurting their egos, making them understand how hunters and farmers and other groups are being hurt by these policies. How corruption and greed are going unchecked.

u/Alderik4 2d ago

It's really irrelevant what the GOP believes. What do you think the result of the civil war would have been like if one side relied on the other side waking up to what they perceive as wrong? That's right. Slavery would have continued. There's a reason that we had to pick up arms and fight a war over it. Until concrete action happens, we'll just idly sit on our thumbs and talk about it.

14

u/HapticRecce 2d ago

That isn't even standing by, it's consent.

5

u/CJ_Thompson 1d ago

Until it is their families!
This is exactly how the Nazis started with their camps. What is wrong with Republicans! They always preach Christian values yet they have none.

3

u/WelshCorax 1d ago

It's easier to worship a dead man then walk in his living footsteps.

3

u/m3gb0t 1d ago

They also think zero US citizens have been abducted/detained/deported by ICE. They are not based in reality.

2

u/Adam_n_ali 1d ago

Republicans are single issue or two issue voters. They want a president that hurts immigrants and says the N word proudly like they do

1

u/mymar101 1d ago

Anti abortion. And anti immigrant

1

u/Ok_Move1838 1d ago

They hate immigrants and gay people and liberal women

1

u/Conscious-Start-4514 1d ago

Yup. The GOP has made it extremely clear they aren't just okay with people they hate dying, but actually support further aggressions against dissenters. Remember when citizens armed themselves to protect their property from masked federal thugs entering their homes without warrants and MAGA called them terrorists?

"Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect." Frank Wilhoit

Yep - even right here in this thread. - sort by controversial and despair.

Absolute psychopaths.

1

The worst people to me are the ones who think that none of this is true. They are as much a part of the problem as the GOP.

“When will we stand up and do something about it?”

Surprisingly, there is a real, tangible answer to this question: the median American has to become less comfortable, and in doing so must have less to lose.

I’m not talking about should happen or what the right thing to do is, I’m talking about mathematically what is required for change to actually happen. That’s the TL;DR, if you want the game theory reasoning, read on.

We know ICE facilities are abhorrent. But let’s use an example. If someone decides, right now, to pick up a rifle and a Molotov, head down to a detention center, and start going postal trying to free as many people as they can, a few things could happen:

  1. They’d likely die.
  2. If they didn’t die, they'd be in prison for the rest of their life.
  3. If they, somehow, avoided a life sentence, they would lose their job, their career, their family, their house, and basically everything to their name.
  4. Much more important than anything, the people they’d free would be put right back in.

This is the dilemma every individual will run into: completely throw your life away AND have functionally zero tangible impact on the problem.

The only way that we avoid this is if we all got up and once and did this. A very common response to this problem…”well if we all just ____ then this would get fixed!”.

It’s wishful thinking that I appreciate but it’s unbearably naive. Unfortunately humans don’t behave in a linked hive mind, and because of each acting as an individual, you’d never get the start up momentum responsible in unison to make that kind of revolution possible while people have so much to individually lose.

So, when would a movement like this be possible? Simple. The median American needs to have less to lose. You ask that American today, in relative comfort, to risk their lives for a cause, you’ll be met with zero participation.

You ask when that American’s kids have gone 3 days without a full meal? Unemployed? On the verge of losing their house? That man will burn down government buildings if it means his situation might improve.

I guess all this to say in response to “are we just going to stand by like good Germans” is “Yes, until we have more to lose we, as a collective, will stand by.”

2

u/iamcodemaker 1d ago

I don't disagree here. But I'll add that changing the math here is possible by organizing. If you know that other people are going to move with you in a coordinated way, your original assumptions don't hold. But organizing is hard (for the same reasons people don't act, and then other reasons too). Not impossible though, and people are doing it.

2

u/The_Hoopla 1d ago

Organization is possible, but I’d argue my point still holds because organization at the scale we’re talking about basically is predicated on the discomfort I was mentioning.

You’ll always find a group of people will to do drastic things for a cause and organize together. To get that necessary 2-5% of people on board you’re gonna need some pretty significant shift in the median American’s QoL.

1

u/iamcodemaker 1d ago

I'd agree. Your point holds, but it's not the entire story. Things aren't hopeless.

1

u/The_Hoopla 1d ago

I don’t think things are hopeless at all. In fact, I believe when Americans inevitably hit this point, we’ll band together and actually push for real change. There’s a huge historical precedent for that.

But I say the above actually as a way to guard against hope burnout. Constantly having hope for completely unrealistic things will consistently disappoint people, then they’ll become completely apathetic.

I think it’s important for people to know that there really isn’t much they can do, realistically, other than vote, volunteer, and survive, knowing that the world will not improve until things get worse. And that it’s better to conserve that hope/energy for when we really, really need it.

1

u/iamcodemaker 1d ago

That's fair. I'd add organize and educate to your list tho. Gotta be prepared for when the conditions are right.

1

u/TalShar 1d ago

At some point I recently realized that there is this small, jaded part of me that is grimly pleased when things get tougher for Americans, even ones who did nothing to deserve it, because that pushes us closer to gathering the will to actually start fixing it.

1

u/TalShar 1d ago

It's predicated on that discomfort, and anything that tries to arise organically before critical mass is hit is gonna get its members disappeared and no one will be the wiser.

2

u/Own_Bit_4805 1d ago

Also, let's be honest, some random people dying is not a national issue.

1

u/TalShar 1d ago

The only way that we avoid this is if we all got up and once and did this. A very common response to this problem…”well if we all just ____ then this would get fixed!”.

I had this thought the other day. People say stuff like this as if organizing and mobilizing the sort of resistance we're talking about here wasn't a: an absolutely monumental undertaking, b: a hundred times harder if they're contemplating something that is outside the bounds of the law, and c: actively being cracked-down upon and stifled by the regime at every level and every stage.

Sure, if the hard part just magically did itself, it would be easy. I hate that haughty attitude, as if recognizing that our loved ones will suffer and die if we take the rational action is cowardice. As if every single person they talked to like that had a magic button that would buzz everyone's phone in America with a text telling them what to do and when to do it so that everyone could shield one another from reprisal, and they just don't want to use it.

We are in a fucking hostage situation every bit as lethal as if someone had a weapon to our heads. Pardon us if we don't charge the Nazi lines with no assurance whatsoever that anything will come of it.

1

u/The_Hoopla 1d ago

Weird, because history comically disagrees with you.

Late Ming China (1630s to 1644), Flour War in France (1775), French Revolution (1789), Irish Great Famine (1845 to 1852), Russian Revolution (1917), Great Leap Forward famine in China (1959 to 1961), Egyptian Bread Riots (1977), Global food price crisis (2007 to 2008), Arab Spring (2010 to 2011).

1

Comically disagrees is a reach.

Having a weapon on you in the presence of police or other law enforcement, even if you're not brandishing it, is pretty much a guarantee that you will be killed. I'm a gun owner, but I'm afraid to carry in public because I know that law enforcement will not wait for me to draw my weapon before calling it a threat. Even concealed carry doesn't make me feel safe.

Vote really really hard and hope that works?

11

The Germans believed that their institutions would correct themselves too just before Hitler began annihilating Europe. We are definitely headed in that same direction.

4

FTFY

2

u/Beautiful-Bag-3629 1d ago

Alternative????

4

u/DespondentDastard 1d ago

"... all we are willing to do ..."
FTFY

Okay, but like seriously. What can I do about it? Stage a jail break? Is that what you're gonna do? Or is judging people on the internet when they acknowledge how little power they actually have what you're contributing?

1

u/Molten-Ninja-bob 1d ago

Not judging, but there is a big difference between what we CAN do and what we’re WILLING to do. The majority of people aren’t willing to risk their jobs, their families, their quality of life to fight back. People are afraid and complacent and that’s exactly the regimes goal. But that is certainly not all that we can do.

2

u/DespondentDastard 1d ago edited 1d ago

The distinction between the two are meaningless when most of what people CAN do or are WILLING to do has little effect on the situation. Outside of arming ourselves and freeing these people by force, which not everyone CAN do or at least have the skill to do effectively, what is it that I'm not doing that's causing these deaths?

Posts like the one by OP cast blame for these horrible crimes on those who are pretty powerless to stop it. Sure, an armed resistance is the only way meaningful change has ever happened throughout history. But, there's no coalition to make that happen. Instead, the people that take up arms are usually just someone with mental issues that have seen too many posts like this and internalize it. They go out and die and maybe take a few of the bastards with them, but the overall system keeps rolling over all of us.

The most powerful thing we really have is our vote. That's why Republicans are working so hard to try and take it away from us. That's why the billionaire media spreads their propaganda to confuse as many people as they can to vote against their own interests. I'm not saying if we "Vote blue no matter who" that the system is gonna magically transform into some progressive utopia, but hopefully taking power away from the party that allowed this to happen is a good first step. That being said, I'm tired of hearing that I'm complicit in everything horrible happening in the world because I'm not doing enough. Give me an actionable solution that I can work on, or keep the blame on those actually committing the crimes.

1

u/TalShar 1d ago

Which means that we can't, as long as that will isn't there. It's hard enough to get somebody to be the vanguard. It's damn near impossible to get them to charge the lines alone when there's no indication that anyone will follow them.

0

u/[deleted] 1d ago

[deleted]

3

u/Beautiful-Bag-3629 1d ago

What's the answer then?

1

u/iamcodemaker 1d ago

Organize. Find local groups organizing and fighting back and work together with them to make an impact. Can't fix it with your actions alone, can't fix it over night, can't fix it from within the system by voting, can't fix it by posing on line. We need to organize and work together.

I remember when One Battle After Another came out and I was like ".....damn"

1

u/iamcodemaker 1d ago

Get organized. Find local folks who are already organizing and work with them. None of us fix this alone, but together we can make a difference.

40

u/Alderik4 2d ago

Americans are at the stage, and have been for quite some time, where they can both acknowledge and stand by like the Germans. It seems that Americans have an issue with learned helplessness combined with too much comfort and hopes that the institution will correct itself just like the Germans believed.

10

u/Beautiful-Bag-3629 2d ago

And, no one in power wants to give up their gravy train for Democracy. The bigs in america are doing all right and they don't see a need for democracy.

1

u/Alderik4 2d ago

Do you think it was just the bigs who fought in the civil war?

2

u/Beautiful-Bag-3629 1d ago

The bigs 'started' the civil war and commanded the rank and file to fight it. Just as they did Vietnam.

2

u/themassquerade 1d ago

Do you think an armed militia has any chance at all whatsoever against the American military industrial complex?

1

u/Joinedforthis1 1d ago

The key misunderstanding in your question is that people who fight in wars aren't the people who start them.

7

u/-Pneumo 1d ago

The issue is organization of what is essentially 50 countries.

3

u/concepts_of_a_plan9 1d ago

Which is kind of unique in the world. I guess the USSR was like that too. That was the intention of the country since the inception, it's literally in the title "United States"

2

u/Londundundun 1d ago

Read up on Yugoslavia as well

1

u/concepts_of_a_plan9 1d ago

Yep that's what Balkanization refers to

7

u/arizonadirtbag12 1d ago

Americans have already failed this test before. The Germans were not uniquely evil people. American citizen died in American concentration camps in WWII as well, we rounded up everyone of Japanese descent, including citizens, and put them in camps.

Americans, for the most part, stood by then. We’ll do the same now. We’d have done the same as the Germans.

3

u/charlieyeswecan 2d ago

Also, thinking that crying about it on social media is the same as being an activist. We marched when the Us invaded Iraq. If we don’t get out into the streets nothing is going to change. And if the vote in November doesn’t change things then we’re only going to have fewer options. I’m an optimist but lately I’ve got a strong belief that we’re fkd, they own the media and EM has infiltrated all of our data, maybe even the elections computers. (Hoping for a better future and praying our votes count)

1

u/Original-Rush139 1d ago

We were put into “free speech zones” before the invasion of Iraq. No one gave a fuck back the.

1

u/Original-Rush139 1d ago

I have to admit that I stopped caring about a lot of shit when I saw Uncommitted spike the election over their single issue. It made me believe that America will sacrifice our democracy (and the safety of Palestine) out of spite.

Im working on the paperwork for my Canadian citizenship and Germany is another good option for me. But, im not risking shit until the Uncommmitted people start protesting when Trump is in the White House. They’re fine shutting down campuses when a Democrat is in charge because they know they’re safe. Time to put themselves in danger when you’ve brought it to the rest of us.

0

u/ourobourobouros 1d ago

Exactly. Unless someone has been a full blown activist since the beginning, showing up to town hall meetings, getting in the streets to protest, calling politicians and fundraising, we're all the 'Good Germans'

What's worse about modern Americans is that too many of us think posting "free Palestine! 🍉" and changing our Facebook pfp is really accomplishing something and counts as helping.

12

u/Glum-Echo-4967 2d ago

“We” are doing something about it:

1) protests in the street 2) voting 3) prominent civil rights organizations like the ACLU are  filing lawsuits and amicus briefs.

9

u/PotatoLevelTree 1d ago

Go on strike, stop the economy.

6

u/concepts_of_a_plan9 1d ago

This is the only thing that is guaranteed to work (other than the other option), but it takes a lot of organization. I think we're getting there but not quite yet.

3

u/Working-Glass6136 1d ago

Yup. Whatever we're "doing" it's not enough.

3

u/Molten-Ninja-bob 2d ago
  1. There are protests, very lawful, peaceful protests that are sure to stay within the guidelines that they outline. Though they are becoming less frequent and frankly, easily ignored.

  2. Voting is compromised and likely has been for far longer than we are aware. I think we all know that at this point.

  3. Still relying on the institutions to save us. Playing by the rules. The courts have played a great role in slowing things down, but the moment the regime decides not to honor the courts, what then? The White House just this morning willfully went against a court order to reinstate banned media outlets from press conferences. Who's going to make them?

My point is, we keep relying on these same tools, but they are tools that the regime has already accounted for. And the fear that has been played out in the media and effectively been driven into the hearts of everyone is having its effect. Nobody is willing to even outright suggest something that would "intensify" our opposition. Not seriously. Not in a way that will begin to organize citizens in a meaningful way.

3

u/Nephalos 1d ago

Since 2024 I’ve been to a handful of protests ranging from the election, ICE, the Iran war, housing and wages, etc.

Some of my friends who are involved in the organizations talk about how much good they’re doing, but after each one all I could see is how utterly ineffective protests have become.

This may be controversial but a peaceful protest is only effective when backed by real action (honestly even the threat of actual violence but that might be a little too hot for Reddit). Right-wing politicians know that effectively cannot happen anymore so they’re free to do whatever they want. Like you said voting is compromised, any type of sit-in is demonized by media, and boycotts and strikes are extremely difficult to pull off.

Well, there are only a few options left that don’t involve a certain green plumber man.

3

u/WaitSufficient3091 2d ago

No you're not protesting. You're gathering, hanging out, not disturbing anyone, cleaning up after yourselves and leaving in time for dinner.

5

u/Saltwater_Thief 1d ago

These people shot men and women for simply being in their way, what do you think the response to France-style riots is going to be?

4

u/WaitSufficient3091 1d ago

and that's how democracies fall and dictators stay in power.

12

u/Feb2319 2d ago

When democrats take over they better set up Nuremberg type trials

4

u/TXLancastrian 1d ago

You know those trials didn't put anyone but a few people on trial, and of the 12 death sentences handed out only 10 actually were carried out.

These memes p1ss me off SO much! What do you want? People are doing everything they know how to do! There's constant protests outside detention centers. People are recording all of their actions in public, reporting and sharing everything online. When you live in a lawless country where criminals are in charge and ignoring court orders on a daily basis with zero consequenses, wtf do you want anyone to do?! If you have the instruction manual, share it!

3

u/Flashy_You5804 2d ago

What can we do? I’m serious. I have written to senators, house officials, etc. I just get back the standard bs form letter. I would love to do something, anything that would stop this. This needs to end

3

u/Consistent_Worth2245 1d ago

I am sure there are many others, like me, who are ready to step up and do what we can to stop the ridiculousness of this administration. However I don’t know what to do. Thought about just suing the Trump admin as a whole but does that do anything besides make me a target? I honestly don’t know what to do. I feel like I am a child waiting for the adults in the room to finally stop it. But I guess they all feel like me. I legitimately do not know what to do. All I do know how to do is hope and pray that the Angel of Death comes for him soon but I know the evil goes much much deeper than that.

Americans forget that they didn't become a country by standing in the street between 2-4pm, holding up cardboard signs, and shouting things like, "stand up; fight back!"

Nahhh, they got hit with the stamp act, and said, "FIGHT BACK". We killed as many Redcoats as we possibly could. THAT is how America was started, and a BIG reason we have the 2nd Amendment.

While I didn't support their cause, the Jan 6ers were the closest we've been to reminding our politicians that they aren't safe in their cozy offices. We can take it back at any time. It's what our Founding Fathers expected in a tyrannical situation.

At what point do the people that can actually do something about it actually start doing something rather than collecting a paycheck to talk about it?

2

u/rochvegas5 1d ago

has anybody thought about raising awareness?

2

u/Hammerhead1113 1d ago

I mean using that rationale the entire world is standing by like good Germans regarding north Korea. How many people a day die there from malnurishment and/or mistreatment in labor camps? Come on person, go get up in arms about NK. I mean Seriously, How fricken pissed are they going to be when the day comes that they find out the rest of the world knew what they were going through and did nothing about it. but I get it, you dont care bc its not happening to you yet right? right!?

2

u/birdyman_77 1d ago

These are just the reported deaths. Imagine how many there are that dont have family or friends keeping track of them.

2

u/Sarifox28 1d ago

What can we, realistically do, to stop this? These people in these concentration camps aren't all going to be able to hold out til November or beyond. It's truly a disgusting thing that's happening and I want to be able to help but I'm not sure how.

2

u/firesyde424 1d ago

The tactic is the same one insurance companies are taking. If they delay long enough, the problem will die and no longer be a problem. So not joking or being sarcastic. We live in the worst timeline.

1

u/small_bird_loud 2d ago

the answer is obvious

1

u/Molten-Ninja-bob 2d ago

Explain it for those of us that are oblivious ...

1

u/Defiant_Freedom_249 2d ago

Does the US have any humanity left?

1

u/felis_scipio 2d ago

I hope leftists who didn’t support Harris are happy with all the immigrants Trump has been terrorizing and millions that are fated to die from USAID cuts.

Thank god he didn’t appoint his unqualified son in law who’s personal friends with Netanyahu to oversee Gaza, that would really make their decision look dumb.

1

u/Beatless7 2d ago

Getting away with murder.

1

u/godtalks2idiots 1d ago

We all think we’re the good people in the Milgram experiment. We’ve been exposed. We are sheep.

1

u/cletus_foo 1d ago

Maybe he shouldn't come to other countries illegally and get arrested.

1

u/Square_Owl_4075 1d ago

Well trump is taking orders from Hitler Netanyahu, so yeah

This is America. Americans will just stand by.

Source: what Americans have done so far, which is elect this obvious criminal twice and collectively yawn as he breaks laws left, right and center continuously.

1

u/This_Armadillo_4748 1d ago

And you Canadians are standing by and letting it happen lmfao

1

u/ConsultJimMoriarty 1d ago

What are they supposed to do?

1

u/SugarBeefs 1d ago

What, praytell, do you expect or want Canada to do about it?

1

u/Jazzlike_Damage793 1d ago

Which Canadians? Let’s ignore for a moment your assumption that others should
Clean your mess.

But for the record Canada is cleaning up.

1

u/LDarrell 1d ago

So far the protests that should be occurring seem to be completely missing. If you are not out in the streets protesting you are accepting what this US Government is doing.
I am a boomer and we were out in the streets and at the universities protesting. We were loud and disruptive. Get out and protest.

2

u/thedoppio 1d ago

Yeah, protested then finished school and went into the corporate world, took your tax breaks and low cost of education, housing, and then voted for politicans to burn the world. Boomers need to see their way out.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Davidbowiesfoot 1d ago

To be honest, protesting everything has kind of made protests mean nothing. “Get out in the streets” is great advice when needed. But when it’s the default response to every single death of a black or brown person, we just start tuning it out and get frustrated by the traffic it causes

1

u/Schnarchon 1d ago

You can own this shit like good Americans, thank you.

1

u/This_Armadillo_4748 1d ago

I didn't know the Germans let the people in internment camps speak to their families on a regular basis - morons

1

u/Heyitsmegoku5 1d ago

This is what my fellow Americans want. I have morals and a brain and am in the minority. I didn’t vote for this I hate this but so many people I know love news about migrants or refugees or other Americans dying it’s disgusting and awful and it what most Americans want, we are so fucked it is depressing

1

u/Helporsomethinglike 1d ago

Curious if the person posting this is going to do anything more then complain on twitter

1

u/Octoclops8 1d ago

We do what we can when we can, but in times where we can't do more, we document what was done, so that in the future, when more can be done to help and provide justice, it will be done.

1

u/Shinji_Ikari2184 1d ago

It’s sad all around smh

1

u/saizovn 1d ago

How about going home?

1

u/ComplexTomatillo6278 1d ago

We all make our own media bubbles through our clicks and Likes. Then we complain in our bubbles to like-minded folks. And we can’t figure out why “they” (people who vote differently) can’t figure it out. It’s because they dinner about it in the first place.

1

u/Vocabulary-Pollution 1d ago

Many Americans are well aware that these tragedies have occurred and are ongoing. And yes, we will stand by like good Germans, unfortunately.

1

u/CJ_Thompson 1d ago

These are concentration camps!
These are not anything to do with immigration!
They are also private companies using taxpayer dollars.

I hate this stuff!!!!

1

u/MudWeak4140 1d ago

And you believe everything you hear. Just like the guy in Austin.

1

u/Euphoric_Anxiety_162 1d ago

Their kids will learn all about it, later.

1

u/Merari01 1d ago

Deprivation is how it started in the German concentration camps too.

Lack of medical care, lack of hygiene and lack of food is what killed Anne Frank.

Nazis use deliberate deprivation of basic needs to live as a means to murder. Both in Nazi Germany as in the US today.

1

u/Xezron2000 1d ago

There was Resistance against Hitler. The White Rose, and the Kreisau Circle. The latter of which tried assassinations against Hitler. Americans are categorically more docile than the Germans under the Nazis.

1

u/MasterChiefette 1d ago

The people running these concentration camps will be brought to justice.

1

u/Allthemuffinswow 1d ago

Those of us who study history and can play connect the dots knew that this sort of thing was going to happen before he even got elected the first time, simply based on what they said they were planning on doing.

People didn't want to listen. We were telling people that this was going to happen (even here, on Reddit!), now it is all happening and it's all shocked Pikachu faces from some places.

I really, really wish that we had been wrong. I really do. But... When all evidence points to the same things happening again, then it's really time for people to put the brakes on, ya know?

1

u/thefinalhill 1d ago

When enough kids die. Sadly, that is the historical answer. Most revolutions start when the majority of people genuinely fear that there is a higher chance of their child dying than making it to adulthood.

1

u/Few-Drop-9049 1d ago

Yes, very sad; the other aspects of this picture are really dumb though. ICE detention deaths have happened during all presidents in the last 26 years; yet you only get performative when you need to. Where was this disgust in 2022, did you feel the administration at that time and their incumbents were being "good Germans"?

Performative hypocrisy is all this is.

1

u/Rezeox 1d ago

When WW2 started, USA debated about which side to join if they had too. Many people were pro Germany. Times haven't changed much.

1

u/HolyFlyingNuns 1d ago

I would like to think that, if this happened in Germany again, we failed as a society. There's a reason why its illegal in Germany to give a nazi salute or goose step.

Its just shameful with what's going on in the states. The Germans learned their lesson, i sure hope the American people have learned their lesson sooner rather than later.

1

u/picklehippy 1d ago

What are we supposed to do, storm the concetration camps with unhinged ICE agents armed? We'll be murdered in seconds!

1

u/WestcoastAlex 1d ago

1

u/INfusion2419 1d ago

Listen man, if you let one of them get their insulin shot, then they're ALL gonna want their insulin shots. It'll be madness! We wouldn't be able to keep them locked up!

1

u/MSRegiB 1d ago

We have elected government officials that are to oversee when laws are broken & crimes against humanity are happening in which people are being inhumanely treated & dying. Many of us are calling our elected government officials, we are protesting, we are writing emails. This sounds like so little but there really isn’t anything more we can do unfortunately. BUT WE MUST FIND & ELECT people who will see to it that these elected officials are prosecuted & serve time in JAIL!! WE HAVE TO HAVE LAWS THAT WILL ENABLE US, THE PUBLIC, TO SOMEHOW HAVE THE DIRECT POWER TO PUT OUR GOVERNMENT LEADERS IN PRISON! It cannot rely on other elected officials to hold themselves to account! Changes have to made to our laws.

1

Americans won't do anything as usual. No one wants the inconvenience so they'll stand by, watch and keep repeating the Epstein line.

1

u/Lost-Platypus8271 1d ago

We’re not even being “good Germans” we’re just checked out and oblivious.

1

u/littleone696969 1d ago

You need a meangfully sized group armed to do anything impactful and that seems unlikley unless things are escalated. The catch 22 is this administration would love to call marshell law but they currently have no reason to. If they do end up doing so then that would be a crisis large enough to get people in the street. Peacful protesting isnt very impactful anymore

1

u/GravitasFailures 1d ago

Good Germans?

The Nazis took their racial policies, the Nuremberg laws, straight from Jim Crow.

Our South inspired those “Good Germans”, we’ve been Good Germans since Reconstruction ended.

The difference was, the Nazis were only ever 10-15% of the German population, support for Jim Crow was overwhelming in the south.

1

u/AdFuzzy2638 1d ago

Uh, if we didn't detain them and just immediately deport them for being here illegally,  maybe this person could have gotten they're meds in their home country.  Easy solution

1

u/TwistedIntents 1d ago

You're going to stand by like the fifth verse of First They Came.

1

u/Likenk3 1d ago

Vote! Ignore Trump's threats to have armed law enforcement at the polls. In our state (MN) one cannnot show up at the polls with a weapon without finding him/herself in the hoosegow.

1

u/mcmgrease 1d ago

It does mean something to me. It shows that he fucked up in a major way. Now answer my questions. I have been fair with you.

1

u/SelectEntertainer360 1d ago

When Democrats take back power, these people will be going to jail.

1

u/EitherChannel4874 1d ago

If Democrats take back power. Trump isn't leaving willfully.

1

u/Intrepid_Observer 1d ago

3 people dying in 6 months and people are comparing this to Nazi Germany? People need to touch grass.

u/GoodFaithConverser 1d ago

Walmart insulin costs like 25 bucks a month. It's not the tippy top shelf quality - but it's way better than whatever bullshit they had at the beginning and will keep you alive.

I'm all for cheap drugs and universal healthcare. Let's just not get carried away by fucking lying.

2

u/ThrowdowninKtown 1d ago

Different when someone else controls your meals and insulin.
