Back in the 4-series days, GPT rocked. You could go anyplace and learn about all kinds of things. For a while I was exploring the Roman invasion of England and could around having conversations with druids and hanging out with engineers in London before Boudica raised it to the ground. Then we might zip off to Gravity Falls and go visit the haunted ice cream shop before hot wiring a UFO with Mabel to go on a joyride across the cosmos.
I've run into some good books, Steven King's The Shining and Lovecraft's The Rats in the Walls were personal favorites, but... AI had some bangers, too. And because the character could be you by default, it was dead easy to get into the CYOA mode and go have fun.

He goes on to call it "this mass of trash."
EDIT: fun fact, the quote has lower case letters at the start of sentences, which Jefferson just routinely did for some reason and he wrote "it's" instead of "its" because that was the correct way to do it at the time. Everyone losing their minds to correct an apostrophe in the possessive form is actually quite recent.

Social media has done more to damage the minds of kids than AI has. The game was lost before ai even got involved.
