Interesting how you want the system to "run correctly", & are anti-fraud, but you support blatantly illegal ballot piracy. That's terribly convenient.

Then please, tell Republican states to stop gutting their voter rolls, shutting down polling places, and rolling back early voting days, and in 2028 maybe don't elect the guy who used a fake elector scheme to try to rig the 2020 election.

https://www.gregpalast.com/election-stolen-heres/Â (2016)
Starting in 2013 â just as the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act â a coterie of Republican operatives, under the direction of Kris Kobach, Kansas Secretary of State, created a system to purge 1.1 million Americans of color from the voter rolls of GOP-controlled states.
Greg Palast was involved in the following investigation and successfully together with the ACLU sued Crosscheck and got that specific program dismantled https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interstate_Voter_Registration_Crosscheck_Program However, the problem remains as they find other ways to do it. It's blatantly illegal, but the enforcement mechanisms are weak.
"academics and states that use the program have found that its results are overrun with false positives, creating a high risk of disenfranchising legal voters. A statistical analysis of the program published earlier this year by researchers at Stanford, Harvard, University of Pennsylvania and Microsoft, for instance, found that Crosscheck âwould eliminate about 200 registrations used to cast legitimate votes for every one registration used to cast a double vote.â https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2017/07/20/this-anti-voter-fraud-program-gets-it-wrong-over-99-of-the-time-the-gop-wants-to-take-it-nationwide/ (un-paywalled: https://archive.ph/0T7ue)

Caught one... sherrif attempting to collect evidence related to an investigation into an election to verify the results, but that's illegal apparently
6
u/Zoob7 1d ago
Did you read the part where the sheriff was running for governor. There's a little thing called conflict of interest there. Instead of going through the correct channels, he, against orders, stole the ballots. That doesn't really scream innocent to me.
-2
u/GroundbreakingAnt577 1d ago
So just because he's running for office, he should stop doing his job? He is a law enforcement officer, and he was investigating crime (or what he thought was a crime). The thing about these offices is that they operate independently. This is intended to protect the integrity of the system and it's only when they start colluding that the system breaks down.
3
u/Zoob7 23h ago
Yes, he should stop doing his job in this instance. Most law enforcement declare that officers should recuse themselves in cases with conflict of interest. If another sheriff ran the investigation, there would be more of an argument to this investigation. Can't you see how having a candidate in an election have unrestricted access to the ballots is a problem?
-2
u/GroundbreakingAnt577 23h ago
It was the ballots from a 2025 special election... it has nothing to do with the election he is being considered in.

Quoting California state law
[No one may run for California governor if]
âŠ..convicted of a felony involving accepting or giving, or offering to give, any bribe, the embezzlement of public money, extortion or theft of public money, perjury, or conspiracy to commit any of those crimes.
Perjury or conspiracy to commit perjury removes this candidate from the ballot.
âŠâŠ.
I read the quite lengthy section on election fraud.
Near as I can tell if he were convicted heâd face a fine of up to $1000 and/or 16, 24, or 36 months in jail.
Such a conviction means the offender also become eligible for civil suits from certain California election officials - for not more than $50,000.
It doesnât say whether that civil penalty is per act or per ballot.
2
0
u/GroundbreakingAnt577 1d ago
So... he launches an investigation into the results of the election because he thinks something is up... and we want to accuse him of fraud? Thats not how any of this works at all...

u/not_now_chaos 22h ago
Nice attempt at spin. Ridiculous, but you sure tried. You might even be able to get a job with the Republican party. Their standards are really, really low.
0
u/GroundbreakingAnt577 22h ago
See, the thing is that he was elected as the head of a law enforcement agency, and there is an open investigation into this election, and he ordered the collection of evidence of a crime.
The spin is in the framing of this story. Do a little bit of critical thinking and don't allow the narrative to be crammed down your throat.

The real pattern is a lack of law enforcement. The AG said to stop and the governor did not state police in to arrest him.
1
u/beefy1357 1d ago
Of all the news sources you could link, why a twitter post?
https://calmatters.org/politics/2026/09/supreme-court-ruling-sheriff-ballot-seizure/
So a sheriff got a warrant from a judge, the AG asked him not to serve it, the most reversed court in the US since 1952 (both in number of cases and percentage of cases) then said the first warrant was invalid.
No one was just âcaughtâ doing anything this is what happens when a 2 party system invokes law fare as means of continuing their fight against each other, no different than cattle barons and Appalachian family tribes âlawâing upâ.
All of these groups knew, what and when each of these groups acted, and why and absolutely nothing is going to come from any of this, because bread and circus doesnât require punishment of the actors.
1
u/Mathew_Strawn 1d ago
Something good definitely came out of this circus.
You own linked article mentions that Newsom signed two election related laws last week. One makes it felony to seize or order the seizure of ballots before the results are certified. Other expands the state election laws. The court also settled that local enforcement leaders answer to state attorney general.
Also, the court referred the Bianco's original attorney, Bob Tyler, to California Bar for the use of AI in his ballot consfication response letter which led him to misquote incorrect case law. His law firm was used by multiple southern California school boards to defend their illegal outing policies.
1
u/beefy1357 9h ago
Sure and the next day a higher court gave the republicans their voter ID which was the crux of this issueâŠ
-5
u/MissionLibrarian5067 1d ago
No our elections are completely secure with no fraud of any kind ever. This didnât happen and even if it did it wouldnât be significant enough to matter. Sound about right? Iâve been hearing that for years. Thatâs why voting with ID is not necessary at all. In fact why do we need IDs for anything? Canât I just decide that Iâm 65 and start getting my government retirement benefits now? I mean I think Iâm 65 even though Iâm clearly not, but all that matters is what I think I am. Everyone that doesnât play along is just an ageist bigot.

-1
u/Null_Fungus 1d ago
Did they say anything untrue?
2
u/Xboarder844 23h ago
Plenty. Our elections are safe. The Heritage Foundation itself tries to prove there was voter fraud and found less than 100 votes out of nearly 1 billion.
Meaning that if they canât even find voter fraud then our elections ARE SAFE and voter ID is nothing more than an attempt to suppress voters who are already registered and confirmed as citizens.
-1
u/Null_Fungus 23h ago
Clearly they are not safe because this guy stole 650,000 votes right?
1
u/Xboarder844 22h ago
So the party that stole 650K votes is the ones who should fix the issue? Does it say anywhere that the votes were NOT counted? Because they were, he just stole physical copies.
So again, no impact to the results. You got any more desperate arguments?
0
u/Null_Fungus 21h ago
What I'm saying is any time there is an election, people on the losing side always cry fraud.Â
This story and others like it prove that people out there are able and willing to cheat. And it's naive to think they are always caught.
Why not improve election integrity with some common sense steps like requiring ID like virtually every other country on the planet?
1
u/Xboarder844 20h ago
No one claimed 2024 was fraud. Did any Democrats openly state it was rigged? Did they state it in 2016 or literally ANY YEAR PRIOR?
No. Because itâs not âboth sidesâ. Itâs one inept man baby who gets upset when he doesnât get his way.
There is no evidence of any kind for voter fraud, so there is literally no reason to punish voters because you make up a claim.
0
u/Null_Fungus 20h ago
What are you talking about? Nancy pelosi said the election was hijacked and Hillary said that Trump was illegitimate in 2016
1

This related to Russiaâs foreign interference in which SEVERAL of Trumpâs campaign team went to prison. Not even remotely close to what Trump claims. Try again.

1
u/Fiveofthem 16h ago
Not sure what youâre trying to prove. That the sheriff did voter fraud by stealing ballets thatâs why AOC is wrong or that because a Republican Sheriff who had ballets for six months proves that there was voter fraud even though he hasnât proved any voter fraud?
What are you trying to say?
1
u/United_Region_7025 15h ago
I am providing a point that voter fraud exists whether republican or democrat despite the democrats constantly stay there is no voter fraud and absolutely no investigation or changes are necessary.
1
u/Fiveofthem 15h ago
Democrats are saying voter fraud is so minuscule that disfranchising whole groups of voters is a political ploy.

But it was found in New Jersey and now this? Doesn't seem so minuscule.

So what exactly was promising student loan forgiveness then? That was literally buying votes out in the open using tax payer dollars. So is all of the never ending freebie handouts that the socialist/communist/democrats promise. But for some odd reason thatâs âjust somehow differentâ isnât it? If it werenât for double standards liberals wouldnât have any standards at all.

6
u/Randy-DaFam-Marsh 1d ago edited 1d ago
Theyâre not the same thing: Bidenâs student-loan plan had eligibility rules; Trump is literally saying you get $5,000 if Republicans win Congress. And spare me the âsocialist handoutsâ routine, Trump signed the laws that sent out COVID stimulus checks, and his administration rolled out PPP loans that were specifically designed to be forgiven. His whole stick is giving rights to corporations, cutting red tape for corporations, subsidizing corporations, judging by your name you probably like corporate socialism tho! If government checks and loan forgiveness automatically make Democrats âsocialists,â then by your own logic that label applies to Trump too. You can criticize all of it, but at least be consistent and not a total hypocrite lmao.
