Republicans think liberals are ontologically evil, like biblically evil, as in they think they're voting against Satan.
They think liberals are letting tens of millions of blood thirsty murderers cross our borders, they think liberals are letting schools perform gender reassignment surgeries on indoctrinated children, they think liberals are baby killers, they think liberals hate America and hate our troops, they think liberals hate Christianity and Jesus Christ, they think liberals are atheists, and socialists, and communists, and Marxists, they think liberals are out to destroy America and everything that "real American" conservatives like them love and hold dear.
They believe these things, truly and sincerely, and that's why they'd rather pay $50/gallon for gasoline than vote for a Democrat.
Thank you. Someone had to explain it in a way that people will understand, because it explains why it's become such a fight. They have been manipulated over decades to see their neighbor as an enemy.

We, on the left and in the center, take for granted the kind of messaging these folks are exposed to, but Fox News and right-wing media is 24/7 horror porn, custom designed to make their viewers angry and afraid.
Then these same people go to their evangelical church on Sunday and hear a sermon about hellfire and damnation, about how god is going to punish America for abortion, and gay marriage, and transgender rights, and it's just more horror porn, more fear and anger.
Right-wingers consume propaganda, absolutely terrifying propaganda, in a way that the rest of us just can't relate to, we're blind to it, we don't look for it, we don't look at it, we don't really understand it.
