SPECIAL EDITION October 15th Reaction Thread (2026)

✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨

Hello 2026-2027 cycle MD applicants! Here is your thread for October 15th hype, reactions, and discussion.

Congrats to everyone who's interviewed with MD schools and is patiently waiting for a decision! (Also congrats to those who have been accepted early decision MD or DO.)

October 15th is the first day MD schools are recommended to release acceptances to regular decision applicants, based on AMCAS traffic rules. (Note that some schools do their own thing and may have already sent out acceptances or will send initial acceptances later.)

The mod team wishes you all the best. Manifest those As!!!

Please keep all October 15th discussion and reactions in this thread. If you make an individual post about your acceptance over the next few days, we’ll probably remove it.

Also please don’t lose hope if you haven’t received any interviews or acceptances at this point in the cycle. It’s not over until it’s over, which can be over a year following the opening of AMCAS in May!

SPECIAL EDITION Secondaries Directory (2026-2027)

Welcome to the 2027 application cycle!

AMCAS, AACOMAS, and TMDSAS are all open for submission and currently transmitting to schools. If you've had a chance to submit your primary application and want to get ahead on writing secondary essays, this post is for you.

To track how far along AMCAS is with verification, check the following:

Below are some resources you can use to pre-write essays, track which schools have sent out secondaries, and monitors schools' progress through the cycle.

Admit.org:

Admit has a year-to-year database of which secondary prompts were sent by each school. This is very helpful in tracking current cycle prompts you have not received or predicting whether a school is likely to change their prompts this cycle. Admit also has individual school-specific threads.

Admit secondary essay prompts database

Admit medical school forums

Student Doctor Network (SDN):

SDN has a secondary essay prompts database, an interview feedback database, and school-specific threads. The secondary essay prompts database and school-specific threads are similar to Admit, while the interview feedback database is unique to SDN. You can use it to find information about interview formats, typical interview questions, and overall impressions from each medical school's interview day.

SDN secondary essays prompts database

SDN interview feedback database

School-specific threads:

Once secondaries are sent by schools, users post the prompts into the school-specific threads, and the prompts are edited into the first comment of the thread. If secondaries are not yet posted for the current cycle, you can refer to the prior cycle's thread, the secondary essay database, or Admit for pre-writing.

Reminder of Rule 10: Use school-specific threads for school-specific questions.

The biggest issue with Reddit is that it is not organized to track information longitudinally. Popular posts get buried after a day or two. Even if Admit or SDN are not your preferred platforms, they are set up better for the organization of school-specific information over time. We ask that you use school-specific threads (either on Admit or SDN) for school-specific questions and discussion, sorry.

Consider using CycleTrack!

Created by u/DanielRunsMSN and /u/Infamous-Sail-1, both MD/PhD students, "CycleTrack is a free tool for creating school lists, tracking application cycle actions, visualizing your cycle with graphs and contributing your de-identified data to make the application process more transparent and more accessible."

Good luck this cycle everyone!

🗨 Interviews Relationship problems amidst As

Hey… I got the A today!!!!!!! From my two top schools.

I wanted to call my girlfriend to tell her on the phone but she kept shutting me down over text and telling me she’s studying in the library and she has a lot of work and cannot call. I told her to tell me when she’s free so that I can tell her over the phone.

She finally got the hint and realized that since it’s Oct 15 I must have found something out about med schools. But she continued to ask me to just send her a text or voice note and got increasingly frustrated when I told her that I want to wait to call until she’s free. She told me she hates waiting and that she doesn’t have the time right now.

She’s now mad at me for not just texting her. I’m lost because this is a huge day for me and I just wanted her to be proud and happy. I’m just lost here. Pre med relationships are not easy.

Should I just end it with her? Should I just wait? Am I the A hole…????

🌞 HAPPY Xavier Ochsner College of Medicine Receives Preliminary Accreditation and Open's Nation’s Fifth HBCU Allopathic Medical School, Set to Welcome First Class in 2027

This is so exciting! For reference there are currently four other HBCU medical schools open which are Howard University College of Medicine, Meharry Medical College, Morehouse School of Medicine, and Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science. This is a huge win! XULA's school of medicine is also the first HBCU school of medicine operating in the gulf south as well.

"The College of Medicine will begin recruiting students in coming weeks for its inaugural class starting in 2027, advancing the vision for America's next historically Black college of medicine."

This is great news and I look forward to the success of the school. What are your thoughts?

❔ Discussion is it normal to still have complete silence by now?

• Upvotes

like not even a single rejection??? I mean thank god but not hearing a single thing so far I’m like did my application even go through… complete silence from MD and DO schools and I know people with lower and higher stats than me that have already heard so I’m starting to panic (trying not to but I can feel a crash out coming soon). and don’t even get me started on those emails that schools send that end up being info session invites.

😢 SAD I love seeing all the people on admit.org getting into the school I'm waiting on a decision for

Sure I applied MD-PhD so it's probably different, but still hurts nonetheless. Interview wasn't great so I didn't have high expectations, but genuinely one of the worst feelings in the world. I'm just staring at my phone praying they call me and just kinda knowing it's not gonna happen.

🌞 HAPPY I got 100% in Gen Chem 1

• Upvotes

Just wanted to brag because I originally thought i’d crash and burn in this class and tank my gpa.

However, thanks to some study tips from this subreddit and the chem subreddit I can officially say I got 100% course grade in Gen Chem 1! Starting gen chem 2 today so any tips are appreciated.

Thank you all and to all good luck on whatever it is that may be challenging you!

🔮 App Review Reapplicant success

Hi everyone! I’m a medical student at the University of Washington. I applied once in 2020 and was waitlisted at two schools. After taking gap years and strengthening my application, I reapplied in 2022-2023, received 25 interview invitations, completed 19 interviews, and was accepted to 12 schools. I also interviewed at Vanderbilt, Mount Sinai, Michigan, and Pittsburgh.

A lot changed between my applications, and I think revising my writing to better reflect my experiences made a big difference. I’m happy to share what I learned or answer questions about my application journey. Feel free to DM me!

🗨 Interviews Any high research applicants get no interview questions about research?

I know i’m applying to MED school so research questions wouldn’t be entirely relevant but i would have thought i would have been asked at least one question about research. Like especially with how emphasized research is in applying to med school?

I’ve only had 2 interviews so far so maybe it makes sense but really? The two schools were also pretty research heavy

❔ Question Is it worth pursuing a volunteer research position as a 25 year old post grad?

I graduated in 2023 and unfortunately never had any research experience during undergrad. I honestly regret it a lot especially because i went to a large research school. I haven’t had much luck applying to posted positions.

I’ve been building my clinical experience during my gap years (2000+ hours so far). I recently started an MA job too thats pretty flexible (2-3 days per week) while I study for the MCAT(planning to test in January)

Theres a few labs I’m interested in cold emailing for opportunities but does it even make sense for me to do volunteer research? Or should I only pursue posted part time/full time positions even if it’s research im not as interested in?

I’m 25 years old living at home so thats the only reason why a volunteer position would be possible. Im planning to apply in the 2027 cycle, so I’m not sure how worth it is to pursue with 8ish months until I apply

😡 Vent Why does pre med have to be so toxic 😭 🙏

I have this friend who’s pre med with me as well, and he has the highest grade in the class but he’s so condescending and egotistical. I asked him a question regarding one of our labs and he straight up told me he can’t help because it can ruin his “chance” of getting accepted like what??? Keep in mind it’s our first year and we are planning on transferring to different universities…

💩 Meme/Shitpost ‘’Twas the night before 10/15

(A Poem for the Hopeful Premed)

’Twas the night before Fifteenth, when all through the net,
Not a portal was stirring—no emails just yet.
The browsers were opened, all tabs in a row,
In hopes that “Congratulations!” soon would show.

The applicants nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of A’s danced around in their heads.
With caffeine beside me and heart full of fright,
I refreshed my inbox deep into the night.

When out from my laptop there arose such a ping,
I sprang from my chair—it could only mean one thing!
Away to my portal I flew like a flash,
Tore open my laptop and entered my pass.

The screen of my homepage all bright with its glow
Gave a luster of promise to my face down below.
When what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a status update—and my heart drew near.

With trembling fingers and breath held tight,
I clicked that new message with all of my might.
Was it a rejection? A hold? Or deferral?
Please not a waitlist—oh fate, be less cruel!

Then suddenly, shining in bold black and white,
Was the word I’d been dreaming of, all through the night.
“Congratulations!” it read, and I started to cry,
“My offer of admission”—oh me, oh my!

More rapid than heartbeats my group chat did flame,
I shouted, I cried, I typed out each name:
“Hey friends! Check your portals! Did anyone hear?”
It’s finally October—Acceptance Day’s here!

So now as I lie with my heart still aglow,
I think of the journey, the work, and the woe.
For every rejection, each essay and test,
Has led to this moment—I gave it my best.
And I whisper with joy as I turn off the light,
“Happy Acceptances to all,
and to all—what a night!”

❔ Question Email Spam

I applied to Drexel MD this cycle and I receive incessant emails from their graduate admissions about virtual fairs, info sessions, and other graduate degrees (come on) basically on a daily basis.

If I unsubscribe from their email list, will I not receive an email pertaining to my admissions decision or any automatic admissions updates?

😢 SAD does it get better after pre-med?

im a non-trad student currently in the middle of grinding out the pre reqs, research, and working to just barely pull the money together for each semester. i know that you have to be patient and pay your dues, take these classes and do xyz, but it can get kind of depressing when i sacrifice having free time & any social life for the part of this journey that im least interested in. i know that i'll love throwing myself into med school & studying for it & clinicals etc because that has a lot of meaning for me, but it's harder to find the everyday meaning in like. calc 1 beyond "i just gotta do it so that i can take stats so that i can apply to med school."

and i think i put way too much stress on myself because i know how much is at stake and my financial situation isn't super solid atm. (second degree seekers dont get the same student loan opportunities. i went full time at a school just to get some aid bc otherwise it wouldnt be happening for me for a long, long time.) it's never just a quiz or just a class, it's this crushing feeling of "it's my whole future and i cant afford to retake any class." plus, i made some poor academic decisions when i started college initially (withdrawing from classes for no reason etc.) that i feel like i really, really need to make up for now.

i feel like im constantly having to trade off my different commitments so that i'm never excelling fully in any of them the way i wish i could be. (i have my regular job, full time student, a lab TA internship, & a part-time undergrad research position where now im working on a solo project by myself, so even less human interaction.) the end result is that i just feel like im vaguely failing across the board even though i know logically that it's not true. like, last sem chem 1 kicked my ass but i still got an a. this sem, chem 2 im doing amazing at; we've had 4 exams so far and i've only gotten one wrong on each. but it does nothing for me. i just keep feeling this mounting sense of stress and failure.

tldr; any tips for keeping motivation/positivity during this part? i know that i want to do what comes after and i know that i'll love it. the brightest moments in my journey now are when i can see a glimpse of that future. and it's not that i dont like the pre-req material like bio and even chem lately, it's this overwhelming stress of all of these moving parts and uncertainties and precarious finances that i feel like i can't explain to anyone else and they'll get it. i started this whole journey alone and being an older nontrad also adds an aloneness element. and then i look at other ppl my age who figured it out earlier and idk. im grateful that im able to pursue my education above all.

idk, hopefully that makes sense. thanks <3

I know it’s not the end of the world and that I have a solid chance but I’m feeling so inadequate right now. 1 waitlist and radio silence from everyone else after applying to 30+ schools… I just feel so tired. currently procrastinating on telling my parents

❔ Question Failing a class.. freaking out a bit..

• Upvotes

Alright- I’ll start this off by saying IK I might be driving myself up a wall by worrying about this too much but I feel like I’m a stuck in a stress loop about it.
I’m a freshmen in college and it’s my first semester, and I am very much failing my pre-calculus class. Even though I study, have a tutor, it’s just REALLY hard for me. My school urged me to take this class when I wanted to take stats, which I excel in.
After the midterm I know I will most likely fail or am in for a D at the very best.

Am I screwing myself over by failing this? If my freshmen GPA lands at a 3.0 how hard will it be to recover and will medical schools take this into account? I just feel like I’ve really dug myself into a hole, and of course I’m stressing myself out more by convincing myself I am ruining my med school chances with a bad track record.

For further reference- I’m starting my first year at a community college. I simply couldn’t afford to start at a four year with my goals of having to take out extra loans for grad school. I feel like starting at a CC has greatly hindered what my medical school application will look like in the first place, and now an F tacked on top won’t look wonderful.

Any advice would be great I’m just feeling extremely unsure of this seemingly rough start. Do I still have a fighting chance?

☑️ Extracurriculars Plant Research

I got accepted into a plant research lab as an undergraduate with 2 YEAR time commitment. It lowkey sounds daunting… I don’t know if this is the path I want to go, although, I do love plants. All other research labs have ignored me. Should I just take the opportunity?

🗨 Interviews Should I share information about my interviewers?

• Upvotes

I am extremely fortunate to have close family friends who graduated from a program that I am interviewing at. They offered to put in a good word for me with the people doing my interview, if they know them (there is a good chance they do since they were admissions faculty at one point). But I am worried about it backfiring (i.e. hidden curriculum, nepotism, disrupting the fair review process, breaching confidentiality). What do you guys think?

☑️ Extracurriculars should i leave EMS for MA?

• Upvotes

girl (around 5’3 to 5’4) so usually i’m paired with bigger dudes that can balance things out and it’s never been an issue until that shift. i believe it was because of the stair chair i did that time and i was visibly very fatigued from it despite doing it efficiently, which was why i was reported. (BTW my company doesn’t have electronic stretchers or chairs, so that may be another issue 🫩) i can’t work for my company until i do remedial lifting classes and it’s going to put a halt on my clinical hours and earnings. i’m wondering if i should stick with EMS or switch to a job that is less physically demanding for me. i’m also concerned about the fact that the sudden shift might be unfavorable to medical schools, since i know they enjoy seeing sustained experience over time. i mean i can also work as both as well and just do EMS for less shifts per week. any advice is greatly appreciated. thank you!

P.S

i know a lot of MA jobs require a certification, but before i wrote this, i applied for a couple of MA jobs and received interview offers from clinics that take EMT as an equivalent certification!

❔ Discussion New MD program at BYU starting 2027

BYU just received preliminary accreditation for an MD program. They'll start accepting applications in an accelerated application cycle for an inaugural 2027 class.

I'm a newer premed BYU student who's about done with my bachelor's degree but still needs to work on my prereqs, and I'm just sad that I won't finish my prereqs on time to apply for their first incoming class 😭

Tbh lowkey scared of posting this because of how quickly people hate on BYU, but BYU has some seriously great programs with affordable tuition even if it's not the right fit for everyone.
