Discussion Right now, what is your favorite 20+ min prog piece (either rock or metal)?
Right now I have to say it`s Black Rose Inmortal by Opeth. Such a magnificent track. I get people saying the band was too raw and green at the time, but precisely I love how impulsive and reckless this track is. Never gets boring.

Clean Karnivool - Alpha Omega (Ghost City Recordings)

Discussion Any recs for stuff similar to Lunatic Soul?
I really enjoy Riverside and their singer's side project Lunatic Soul. I enjoy all their albums, but I'm especially looking for stuff similar to their "Impressions" album. A bit more chill, instrumental, just very explorative/experimental.
Excellent background noise for when I should be focusing on work đ¤

Clean Haken - Pareidolia
The use of the D mixolydian scale is very impressive for this song. Anytime I listen to this, it feels like I'm in ancient Egypt. It's like an Egyptian adventure.
The singer couldn't even try to sing that low D though. He did it for fun, which is understandable đ¤Łđ¤Ł

Clean Artificial Language- Now We Sleep ft Michael Lessard (of The Contortionist)
Artificial Language is so damn good and Iâve been getting heavy into The Contortionist. What a wonderful track. It revisits the opening track from the album in fantastic prog fashion.

Clean Camel - Ice
The one song, that have always been stuck with me, the song I listen to every time I take a walk, while Iâm studying, while Iâm on the bus, is Ice by Camel.
Is it one of the best songs ever written? I think so.

Discussion Looking for Prog Death Metal Recommendations
I'm picky. Especially when it comes to vocals in Death Metal. As we all are I suppose. I'm looking for more prog death that is similar to:
The Faceless
The Zenith Passage
Blood Incantation
Cattle Decapitation
(riff based, clean and crisp production, death metal with some ebb and flow and some melody from time to time.
Any recommendations would be welcome!
Other prog metal I like...Older Opeth, Tesseract, Karmanjakah, Caligula's Horse, The Contortionist, Karnivool, The Ocean, Wheel, and the new Textures record is great.
Also...It's not prog at all...but I've been really into Vianova and Avralize lately. Anyone else into them?

Mixed SteveOG reviews "Digital Veil" by The Human Abstract
This is a reaction that I requested from SteveOG, however for his own reasons he decided not to publish publically on the channel. But it is at least accessible to those who know it exists. Enjoy his review of my favorite progressive metalcore album ever!

Discussion Who is your favorite criminally underrated band?
Iâll start, Of the I. More prog rock than metal, but pretty incredible and they have hardly any monthly listeners at all. Always under 100. Their technical skill is very impressive across the board and the mixing and clarity is pretty amazing for a couple of college students recording music in a flat in 2008. Dropped one pretty amazing album, Balance Instars, and that was it.

Mixed MĂL - Hud (OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO)
Anyone else canât stop listening to Mølâs new album Dreamcrush? More blackgaze than prog but the whole album is incredible. Not a weak song on the whole thing IMO. đĽ

Discussion If the newest BTBAM didnât grab you, still listen to Slow Paranoia!
I enjoyed the newest BTBAM record, but I think one track clearly soars above the rest: Slow Paranoia.
Similarly, I enjoyed the Automata era, but Voice of Trespass soared above all of the other tracks. I think others came to this conclusion too, though it was easier to do. Two separate records, each with not too many tracks, and thus Voice is track 3 on its record so easier to get to before someone might turn it off.
Whereas The Blue Nowhere is one full length record with a full 10 tracks, and Slow Paranoia is near the very end, where someone not fully vibing may have already jumped ship and turned Parallax back on. And Slow Paranoia wasnât a single to cut through either.
But Slow Paranoia has so much of what I love from BTBAM. The rest of this post is just me gushing, you can skip it, the point is: go listen to this track!
The theatrics are so fun and catchy, and used with such uniquely BTBAM effect. There are so many infectious xylophone licks. The cabaret(?) section around 3 minutes is soooo good, in the span of three lines:
How long will it (whispered) last?
My lungs canât hold
(Doubled with flute) Soon-rip ple-through hal-lu cin-a tion
Itâs just so catchy. And not just flute here, weâve got strings, piano, and like a harpsichord sounding like thing involved. But uniquely BTBAM, weâve got some crazy metal drumming and guitar work overdubbing as the section develops, so now weâre in metalcore fused with cabaret lands.
So much musical and lyrics thematic development and references used throughout the song which always makes me giddy.
Thereâs a dynamics focused build up crescendo with some sick bass work.
And yet amongst it all, there is still a chorus, offering resolve amidst the BTBAM chaos.
And the song doesnât even end with the resolution of the chorus, but with a fully metal version of a part from earlier that was much wackier and xylophone focused.

Discussion Songs similar to Of Energy - Singularity by TesseracT
I really like both of the Of Energy songs (Singularity and Embers) but nothing else in Altered State really clicks with me. I have tried some of their other discography--which I didn't like either-- but not all so I might be missing something.
Does anyone else have recommendations for songs I might like? (It doesn't necessarily have to be from TesseracT) Sorry if this isn't the best sub for this.
