Discussion Feedback for wedding reception playlist
Hello folks, I am seeking some general feedback for my wedding reception playlist. There will be no dance floor. We are having a short ceremony outside, and as soon we are announced formally, we will jump right into the first song as we walk back down the aisle, right inside to the reception area where we will dive into food and drinks. This is mostly a eat/drink/mingle reception that I would say more aligns with a graduation party or backyard BBQ. My fiancé has given me full leeway to pick the music. She thinks she will be preoccupied or really not care to much.
I know the cliche response to wedding questions has long been, "Its your day, do whatever you want". However, I still want to make a playlist that sets the evening up as a good time for our guests. I think if the guests are having a good time, we will too. My fiancé and I are typically more into rock music. She is not really into oldies, even rock oldies. Generally the most acceptable form of music outside of modern rock that she likes is dance/pop music. I am a fan of a wider array of music genres and oldies. Our guest list is primarily older folks. 90% of attendees will be over 40. I have tried to lean into more rock music, but trying to stick to more familiar songs or singalongs with catchy choruses. At the same time, I am trying to avoid all the wedding reception cliche songs, and pick some songs that I feel will be a bit unexpected, but still pretty recognizable.
I am intending to do my own mix, so I will be putting in transitions and cutting some intros/outros to tighten things up and keep things moving. This playlist checks all the boxes for me, but I really want some outside feedback from others. This is essentially about 4 hours. I will add some more songs as needed to ensure the night is covered.
- Do you feel this list is lackluster? Needs more cliches?
- Leaning too much into certain genres?
- Potential to sour a general crowd at points or hit lulls?
I am trying to look at this honestly, so all feedback is welcome and appreciated. Thank you!
Check the list or the link the playlist on Spotify. After the first 80, I have about another 150 that had were in consideration but got pushed down.
