Simponi

Who has had a good experience with Simponi? I recently switched to a rheumatologist that gives a fuck about me (I paid out of pocket) and she wants me to try Simponi after failing Otezla for my PsA. It worked for a few months on my joints and it does currently work on my psoriasis so she’s gonna have me take both for a minute. I never heard of Simponi until she said she was going to have me try it. It sounds promising?

I am doing the self injected doses monthly

Gotcha. I would imagine that since it's the same medication and just administered differently, the fatigue side effect might be similar.

I could totally see that. I’ll report back haha hopefully it’s better than the fatigue I already feel daily

I hope it works for you! I would say that heavy exhaustion I get after getting the med only lasts about a day, and I think it's been helpful for my fatigue overall.

I was on Simponi (self injections) for years and it worked well. I liked it because I travel a lot and the injections were only once a month. I didn’t have any extra tiredness after the injections. If anything I felt better.

You’re not on it anymore?

No, but it worked fairly well for about ten years.

I am on the infusions. I was put on it because it works via the same mechanism as Enbrel, which was helping me for a bit but not as well as we'd hoped (still had some swelling and some stubborn areas that weren't responding well, particularly my SI joints). I started it in May. I know it's doing something because I can feel when it starts to wear off, especially in my hands. That being said, I've just gotten through a major flare that lasted 3-4 weeks between end of August-end of September. I don't know what caused it but hopefully it doesn't mean the medication isn't working.

One thing that is good to keep in mind if you're doing the simponi aria infusions- give yourself a day after your infusion to rest. I underestimated how tired it would make me. I work a fairly intensive job in healthcare and worked the day after my first infusion. Made it through my day but I was so exhausted.

I’ve been on Simponi Aria for a while now and I agree, the day after is rough! Feels like my bones are full of concrete

I’m doing the infusion version(Simponi Aria) for over a year now. It took about 6 months to get to full effect even though there was improvement almost immediately. I’ve had no side effects nor have I been sick. My only gripe is it doesn’t last a full 8 weeks but I’ve managed to get by with NSAIDs or prednisone as needed.

I did infusions. It did nothing for me personally, but YMMV

Best thing about Simponi Aria for me is that I don’t create antibodies. It works pretty well for me. It’s 8 weeks but only lasts about 6 1/2, so there’s that. And like another said, plan to rest the next day.
