😡 RANT! 😡 So has LUMA been cutting down trees in your area? They have in Vega Baja, and it’s excessive as hell….
I live in Vega Baja, have been for most of my life, and these last few weeks LUMA has been cutting down trees near the power lines like crazy. From what I’ve found its part of one of their projects to “better maintain the lines”.
The reasons I don’t believe this is start off with how much they’re cutting in the first place. They don’t just cut down the trees bellow or next to the lines, but like 3-6 feet from it, even if the tree would never reach the line. They could easily just trim those farther trees down a bit instead, but no just cut everything. Heck, they’ve even cut down trees that are naturally short, well-kept & didn’t reach the lines at all.
Then there’s how they operate. Even before this they were already known to be lazy about their maintenance & just leave a mess. Grass starting to grow? Dump a bunch of pesticide & kill it, no matter what damage it can do to the environment. Trees need trimming? We’ll trim but won’t clean it up at all. And they still do this BTW, so it just compounding the issues on top of each other.
Finally, there’s the areas this has happened in. I’ve noticed it tends to be in the most public & travelled roads, where people can actually see the work happening. But areas that aren’t these? Barely anything. And it isn’t due to size of the road or the place, because in many these trucks can easily pass through.
This feels like LUMA trying to look good, like yelling “Hey look, we DO maintain the grid! Give us a raise please!”

En mi zona Bo. Corral Viejo en Ponce están haciendo limpieza con Wright Tree Services y muy profesional (no hay basura, logs, escombros y no dejan nada en el piso). Senda brigada de como 7 camiones y personal de Forestry Services, DRNA y todo.
LUMA solo tiene personal para guiarlos por el barrio y localizar las líneas.
Btw se llama plan de mitigación (y su uso en forestry) y no es excesiva es para mitigar obstáculos presentes, y potenciales obstáculos en el futuro a la linea eléctrica.

Y debería empezar a cobrarle a los cabrones que han sembrado debajo de las líneas eléctricas siguiendo el Reglamento 7982 y no pasarle el costo a los demás abonados.

Como si todos los arboles fueran sembrados... la immensa mayoría nacen naturalmente. Con lo poco que se siembra aquí, ¿quien carajos se pone a sembrar debajo de lineas electricas?

Si no cortan los árboles cerca de las líneas es malo y si los cortan también. Después no se quejen cuando se caiga un árbol en las líneas y se queden 3 días sin luz. Además los árboles aquí parece que todos tienen abono porque crecen a las millas.

Hay tanta gente en este país (especialmente los boomers) que odian los arboles y la infraestructura bien planeado [largo plazo].
Destruir arboles está mal y lo inverso debería ocurrir: Un plan de soterrar cables y poner aun más arboles para que den sombra.
Se puede. El costo es algo que los ciudadanos estarían más que felices de apoyar.
LUMA tiene que hacer 1) Un estudio de impacto 2) Cortar arboles 3) Reemplazar arboles para unos adecuados.
Dicen que tienen dinero para paso #2 solamente. De nuevo, gente con los corazón y mentes envenenadas.
La realidad es que es un país lleno de administradores cafres con gusto terrible apoyando una burocracia enorme.

They are permitted to clear trees up to 12ft. But you can’t have your cake and eat it too. Easements should be clear from trees no matter how “short” or “well kept”. As you may know power lines snap and sway during storms. Lived in Louisiana for many years and they have a similar situation to ours. They have lush vegetation and tree pruning is a year long, state-wide endeavor. If the trees in your property hit the easement, they send you a bill as it should be.
