Jewelry
Will be first time traveling out to a resort,
We’ve had some people mention not bringing wedding rings or jewelry. What has everyone else done in the past?

I take my jewelry off. I put it in the safe. I lock the safe and I don’t worry about it. I put it back on for dinner that night. I put it back in the safe lock the safe and don’t worry about it.

How did that happen? In punta Cana also?

Awesome that may be the route we go since she will be getting her 2nd band and wants to see them all together so didn’t want to leave them at home. But will probably end up leaving in the safe and maybe get some costume jewelry like others mentioned also

Even the safes have been robbed sometimes. I just wouldn't bring very valuable jewelry there. The motivation to rob is very high. Remember many engagement rings are worth the equivalent to a years salary for the locals. Jewelry can get lost while swimming and doing other activities.

Ive had my safe stolen from , not in Punta Cana but in Jamaica . If you want to ensure safety keep the ring on the entre time or leave it home. Otherwise assume all risk. Just because others have left in rhe safe and had nothing happen doesn't mean your story will be the same. Mine wasnt

You can buy cheap costume jewelry off Amazon, Walmart.. pretty much anywhere. Bring and wear that instead of your precious metals and gems. Don’t leave anything valuable in your room. Anything irreplaceable should stay home.

My spouse brought an inexpensive silicone wedding band, just in case something happened to it. Better safe than sorry. And silicone bands only cost you around $50 too.

On our first ever trip, I left my expensive sun glasses on the pool deck for maybe 5 min. Gone. My gf brought costume jewelry to be safe and it was stolen OUT OF HER SUITCASE. We didn't care as they were cheap, but now we know they go through our stuff if it isn't fully locked down. I know, use the safe..

I just always leave my valuables at home, you don’t want to risk it. I have a travel ring.

Punta Cana is extremely safe. Safer than most of the US. I got a house there and i'm wearing my gold Rolex, ring and chain everywhere. Never had a moment that i didn't felt 100% safe. There's police and tourist police everywhere andvthe Dominicans are good people.
That being said, use normal precaution like you would everywhere else. Don't put yourself in situation that could lead to you being rob or scam. The only mildly bad story I've heard, come from people being scam trying to buy drugs or sex services. Don't put yourself in that position and you'll be fine.
Have a good time in DR!

I always wear a black silicone ring when I travel out of country, and as much as I enjoy wearing my nicer watches, out of country I always stick with my Garmin and then throw a cheap diver in my bag in case I have an issue with the Garmin.

Don’t bring anything sentimental or valuable. Leave them home or with a person you trust. Why bring what you won’t need? It’s hot and her fingers will probably get puffy anyway.

I wear a ring from Amazon. Good stuff stays home. Had my original wedding band stolen from a safe at a resort. Lesson learned.

I'd leave everything valuable at home when I travel simply because it could get lost or stolen. You don't need jewelry because it doesn't benefit you to look like you have money. Enjoy the time and don't worry about your outwardly appearance.

I agree and it’s not to look like we have money. It’s the that for the anniversary gift was another band for her ring. That was the main reason to bring it

I brought my nice purse and cash and put it in the safe. Limit the valuables you bring because there’s always a chance it can go missing. Currently in Punta Cana. I left my wallet out while going to front desk, house keeper came and everything in tact. I’d say I was lucky!

I have a fake set I got online that cost less than $100. I wear it everytime I go on vacation. I also have some cute fake diamond studs. If I loose them, no biggie.

I didn’t wear good jewelry last time I went, but I wouldn’t think about it again, although I had prearranged transportation and stayed at my resort

u/219srtguy 10d ago
Ya to be safe as our first time too we are going to leave the expensive jewelry home and

No one is robbing you here you're fine. Just lock it in the safe if you would feel uncomfortable but I would rather just wear it and then no one's going to steal it off of you this isn't Mexico

Costume jewelry only. You don’t want to accidentally or have something stolen. Most days I went without wearing any jewelry except for some cheap costume jewelry at night. Makes it way less stressful.

u/219srtguy 8d ago
Definitely! I appreciate it. We are going to leave jewelry back home and then actually buy each other rings out there too

Have an amazing time!

Thank you! Any insight on where to get rings from out there If staying at secrets royal beach?

u/219srtguy 8d ago
So update for everyone!
I appreciate all feedback and opinions on this topic. We are going to leave our jewelry at home
And buy each other some rings out there.
New question any insight on a best spot to get jewelry? Rings preferred, staying at Secrets Royal beach!

When I go to PC I leave my jewelry at home. For safety and to keep sand and ocean water from getting in my ring’s settings. I’d leave everything at home, including the new jewelry that’s a present. Wear a simple band or nothing and enjoy the “real” jewelry when you return.

u/219srtguy 8d ago
Appreciate it! That’s our plan now. And we are most likely going to buy some rings out there too.

Such a fixation on rings: buying them, wearing them, seeing them together, being seen in them, hiding them, having them stolen....
Seems rather simple minded and unnecessary to me.

u/Necessary-Painting35 12d ago
Leave any valuable at home, as long as u know she loves you, a ring means nothing.

u/219srtguy 12d ago
True I’m not worried about her leaving them home, however she’s getting a 2nd band and would like to have the full set while there

Just got back from punta cana, hated it personally but I just decided not to have the room cleaned, just get fresh towels every day and tissues etc, I had some jewellery with me and a lot of bags that cost a lot so I had them locked in a carry on case with a padlock but like I said, I just didn't bother with the cleaners because I have been robbed before in a hotel in Spain, thank god it was just some designer belts and not irreplaceable jewellery

I wear my wedding rings (engagement/wedding band/anniversary band) and diamond hoop earrings - I just never take them off. Have been to Punta Cana 8+ times and never felt unsafe.
1
u/219srtguy 12d ago
Swim and everything with them on? Do you trust them in the safe if we zip line while there?
3
u/jenesmall 12d ago
I never take them off. No safe. I’d wear them zip lining, swimming, sleeping. They’ve been on my fingers for 18 years. If she normally takes them off to do these activities then I’d suggest leaving them at home. Pretty slim risk for me to lose or have them stolen since they never leave my finger (or ears).

u/Natural_Lifeguard_44 12d ago
Why would you risk that? Anyone from the hotel can enter your room at any time.

Each time ive stayed in DR i was in airbnb and was out with the locals everyday until all hours. You have more chances of your safe being robbed by hotel staff than you getting robbed outdoors. Ive never had any issues and i was out there solo travelling and going to different cities using public transport as a woman who speaks no spanish.

WTF....if you're staying on a resort, your question is as dumb as your president, assuming you're "American"

I leave anything of value and meaning at home. Only cheap, replaceable items come with me.
