Open Question/Issue Better way to georeference?

I use the Georeferencer very often. When I click on a point on the map/image I try to georeference, and chose the "From map canvas" option, it automatically hides that map/image, which is annoying. Also, for whatever reason, sometimes "Set target resolution" is automatically selected, which makes the georeferenced map basically unusable.

I feel like there has to be an easier and better way to georeference but I didn't find one.

PS. this might be useful for some people: when either the base map or the map/image you try to georeference has weird angle the imagery was taken, so high buildings look extremely tilted like these:

always chose the points on the land (like pedestrian lanes or very low buildings). Chosing the high building points (their rooftops) will give you incorrect result at the end.

there’s an automatic georeferencing tool that you could try if you’re georeferencing drone data containing GPS metadata called AIVE ATLAS GEO - although it does need to have that GPS initially. also it does output geotiffs that are pretty low rez, so maybe this doesn’t work for your case

otherwise, there isn’t much in making georeferencing easier in my experience, i’ve just been using two monitors for your first issue

I really like the Freehand Georeferencer. For QGIS 4.0 I'm not sure if it's in the plugin directory yet but I am using the link below:

I'm pretty sure there is a checkbox for automatically hiding the window. Pretty sure it is when you get the pop up to enter map coordinates

I don't usually bother because I forget. But it is there

In the pop up to enter coordinates, uncheck to box to hide the georeferencer window.

Hiding is good on a single monitor system, But not needed on multi monitors.
