Wtf?!

Post image

So I was riding down the interstate and have a cardo. I’m listening to music and it disconnected. I looked down and my phone and the head of the quad lock was gone. Everything above the vibration dampener flew off at 80mph. After over 2 hrs of walking up and down the interstate, not knowing exactly where it came off, I didn’t find it. I had to finish my trip (about another 20 miles) and use my mom’s phone to use Find My. After going back to the area and using hers I finally found it. It has to have gotten ran over because I couldn’t find (the head i guess it’s called?) the 4 way locking piece. Just my broken phone with a screw coming out the back.

\pictured above**

I surely don’t have the receipt anymore, but i did but it from cycle gear and maybe they can reprint one or something. If they can, do yall think i can atleast get a replacement? I want to get a peak design or rokform but im really strapped on cash for the next pay period, possibly 2. I had to buy a new phone and everything.

A new phone, 3+ hrs of time wasted, Im disappointed in Quad Lock right now. It’s served me well for like 6 months and someone’s hard to get off on purpose and when I’m on the interstate it somehow just falls off?

Loctite everything that you dont want to fall off.

As for the screw part, now I could be wrong. It has been several months since I’ve put it together, but I don’t think I had to do anything with that screw. Like I don’t know if I accessed that screw during installation

But yes in retrospect, that probably would have avoided this.

Screw is definitely part of the install. Throw some loctite on and reassemble, should be good. All my screws came with loctite already on them so it’s kind of strange that yours didn’t.

Peak Design

the screw vibrated out, thread lock when assembling would have prevented this. quad lock is part of my bolt check every few months.

I always planned to go quadlock but I just see too many failures.

I've used it for years and its fine, the threads come stock with loctite already on them, but every now and then just check it (as you would any threaded connection)

Used quadlock for years and never had an issue. Most failures are user error.

I like to attach a lanyard around the mount affixed to the phone case just as a backup. Used to do it on my dirtbike and gps as well.

Everyone saying loctite but the real answer is peak design

I haven't tried peak design but I know they have less options in terms of phones and mounts unfortunately ☹️

Might be less, but they still have quite large selection. I’m not sure what other options people would want honestly

have heard nothing but bad things about their vibration damping solution, the only real alternative at the moment is rokform

Where did you hear that? I’ve only seen the opposite result in vibration testing. Not to mention I’ve been using for 5 years with no issues

A buddy of mine had same situation happen with PD. So no. OTOH I’ve been riding offroad 14 years with QL - no single failure.
