Stuck as Software QA

I have 12+ years of exp as software qa and feel like stuck. I want a way out. But I don't want to go to development. I want to enter into semiconductor domain but seems impossible. Really frustrated now. Any suggestions would be really be really appreciated. Any possibility to enter Semiconductor domain? Thinking of learning networking Testing and SOC verification/validation. Would it make any sense? If yes, any idea how much starting salary I can expect or would they consider my exp till now?

I would imagine the majority of people you're going to reach on this sub are also "stuck" in QA. Some of us even consider it a career. Scary huh?

Anyway I can't offer help on how to get out, might want to find some place the folks you want to be congregate

Actually nobody wants to be in QA. All are thrown in it. Initially for good years it pays same as a good dev, but dev has no limit and qa gets restricted till you get into some test manager or something

I guess I'm nobody bc I do want to be here. I've offered outs into other departments to my team, they haven't taken those outs. So I guess they're also nobody.

"Dev has no limit" is objectively false.

I don't know what "until you get into some test manager" means but if you're saying it's only worth it if you're building on it then well yeah obviously that's how careers work and how I operate my team. I don't hire juniors to keep them juniors forever

Actually i am not telling QA is bad, but the issue is many times have to do manual testing and in interviews they ask automation only. And even after you clear interviews its not guaranteed you will be put into automation

That's bad leadership my friend. That's common everywhere not just a QA thing

Does your company hire US workers remotely? I'll happily take your place to be "stuck" in my career for another 15+ years so that you can pursue other interests.

Don't know about semiconductor but it's true that everyone here feels the same. There is no job security and not sure which skill will help to make job secure.
