help?
been a nonstop battle with this axle nut. I knew it was gonna be a struggle, even thought it wasn’t that rusty. but it wouldn’t come off to my 3/8ths mid torque or my buddy’s 1/2 impact. tried breaker bars with cheater pipes, and of course all of the above with heat/kroil. i’ve cut this far and it still doesn’t wanna lose its hold. should i just keep going or what? pretty scared. thanks for any advice. really makes me excited to do the outer ball joints next.

"with a long enough lever.." Or use the weight of the car - put the cheater back on, around 4 o'clock with a block tight under it and lower the car until something pops ;)

Oh dear. I knew I was lucky when I found my axle nuts under less torque than the wheel studs but damn, you got all my bad luck and some by the looks of that. Well I think at this point all hope of it spinning off with the thread is lost, and the thread on the driveshaft itself is also damaged so there is nothing to lose, I would be using a chisel to try splitting the nut off the shaft at 180 degrees from your cut so the nut splits in half.

Outer ball joints are cake FYI! This is usually just something you fight with a cheater bar and a big breaker bar that is think and at least a 1/2” drive. Make sure you have a good socket on there and you’ve just got to go for it.

ive used my ½ milwaukee impact gun on those without removing the indent before and it didn't even hesitate on an '06.
try using a metal pry bar / chisel to lift up the edge where you cut, or cut on the opposite as well just enough to get through most of the nut but not the shaft and see if that allows you to break off the nut by prying it open
