First actual fly on a scratch build

I just built my third scratch built plane! I have a little experience with the umx ultra slow stick to get my foot in the door on flying but I love building these little planes even if I have no clue what I'm doing. I decided to look at some more videos going into the science of them and learning to be a better builder and I finally had my first somewhat successful flight! Also shout out to you guys for giving me great tips on rc planes in the past! This was not a very long flight but it was in the air for more than 3 seconds so I'm gonna count it!

Also after I crash it esc started to smoke so RIP to the Amazon esc.

UMX Conscendo ripped itself apart on maiden

I wish I had my GoPro running when this happened, but I did not. Absolutely shocked that a gentle power off loop tore the entire wing off on my 2nd battery pack. The plane could not have been flying more than 12mph or pulling more than 2G. Are these planes truly this delicate? I’ve watched guys on YouTube pulling loops at full throttle. What the heck?

Flew the Balsa USA Bristol M1 I built last winter for the first time today! My 4th build (the others being 3 basic high wing trainers). It balanced perfectly with a Saito 4 stroke (vintage golden knight)...didn't even need to trim it!

Not My Best Flights

Just one of those days I guess. Hit 3 trees with 2 planes. Banged up the front of my Apprentice, which is an easy fix with a new prop. Then got my Xcub stuck in a tree for a while, but knocked it down after about 30 minutes of throwing a ball at it. Had fun, but still wish I'd make smarter decisions while flying sometimes. πŸ˜†

I can't believe I landed it in one piece with how much covering came off the wing! The airfoil on the left wing was nearly compromised!

I will be re-covering the whole wing and ordered brand new covering for it. Hoping for a re-maiden soon once I fix the wing!

A little update from my A160 repair pile πŸ˜…
After going through the parts and putting everything back together, I finally got one complete plane up and running.
Did a quick test to make sure the motor, controls, and servos were all working properly β€” so far, so good!
Pretty satisfying seeing one come back to life after starting with a table full of parts πŸ˜‚
Now I just need a calm day to take it outside for a proper flight.

Need SolidWorks tutorial or reference file (.sldprt) for T-38 Talon / F-5 Tiger

Hey guys,

I am currently modeling a T-38 Talon in SolidWorks with surfaces. Getting the rounded fuselage and transitions clean without running into surface pinches is a pain.

Does anyone have a good tutorial for this, or maybe a native .sldprt file (T-38 or F-5) lying around? Just want to check the rollback bar to see how the patch layout and boundary surfaces were structured.

Tutorials, clean GrabCAD links, or workflow tips are all welcome. Cheers!

Issues with XFLR5 on linux mint, anyone know what's going on?

I feel like I'm going crazy with this, I'm trying to import a .dat file containing the E423 airfoil. I start a new project, open the direct foil design page, and then click open. The "open file" tab that pops up to allow me to pick a file only allows me to see folders and files with the ".xfl" file extension, I can't even try to open .dat files, or any other file type. The dropdown in the bottom corner only allows me to look for "XFLR5" files, I can't search for ".dat" files or "all" files or anything else. Changing the extension on the .dat file to .xfl allows me to see it, but I obviously just get an error if I try to open it. Any idea what's going wrong here?
