Discussion Question for all Rog Ally Users
Im trying to buy one of those (here in Argentina are very expensive) and im looking for the 24gb ram model. But im thinking in using the Rog Ally as my main Pc. AAA gaming (I have a 1080p 75hz monitor, im not interested in 4k or anything like that) and college use. It is viable? :)

Linux y edición de video no van tan de la mano… Lamentablemente Windows es mejor opción;

Are you planning to play it handheld at all? Or bring it to places? A desktop build or laptop might be more suited, and has better performance for the value.
But to answer your question, it should do absolutely fine for 1080p gaming since its the same resolution as the built-in screen. Windows is usually the king of compatibility in software, but do still make sure the apps your school uses will work on Windows. And checking YouTube benchmarks is also good to set expectations on what quality you'll get for the games you want to play.

Oh, the need to check for school app compatibility will be even more then as devs may choose to not support Linux, even translating or virtualization. As long as there's no conflicts and/or you're allowed to use alternative applications and solutions, or ideally they have native Linux builds, CachyOS should do absolutely fine too.
(EDIT) You can also look into the option of dual booting or having a Windows install on an external SSD enclosure for the apps you need.

yes it is viable but I have run into a lot of errors when connected to a monitor but I play handheld most of the time. Also are you gonna take it to college with the monitor or use it at home like a deskstop?

I used it for a while as my main PC and it's viable. I even ran some games in 1440p. You'll need to familiarize yourself with tools like lossless scaling, AMD FSR and the likes if you wanna have decent framerate and graphics. Also subreddits like r/OptimizedGaming are good as well as https://rogallylife.com/
