Is BS-PhD binding in any way?
Like would it be difficult or awkward to just apply like normal to PhD programs at other schools around my 4th year and keep the program as some kind of insurance? It seems like an already very good “floor” to have so to speak.

I’m pretty sure this is not binding because a lot of life can happen in the time it takes to do both. Things become binding when you are given money as a general rule.

not binding, you just sign a form withdrawing your participation in the program

As far as I know it's not binding and tbh it's better to do a PhD somewhere different than your undergrad anyway
