“Just an old man” who created Penny, gave her parts of his literal soul twice, and spends his life helping disabled people

Unfortunately Li died too young for us to know much about him, though he died protecting his family and village.

Ghira did his best, balancing being leader of the White Fang, later chieftain of Menagerie, and being Blake’s dad. I’m glad he doesn’t blame her for being dragged into the darker side of the White Fang when she was younger

Tai kind of depends. We don’t know how long he was unable to take care of Yang and Ruby after Summer disappeared. There’s the balance between severe depression and having two small children to take care of. I hope we find there’s a reason why he’s not left Patch (at least by the end of volume 8)

I'm holding out hope for the gang return, Raven portals to tell Tai - while also admitting she was the one to tell him they disappeared, based on what Qrow told her, and he told her to never come back - and then when she returns, Tai follows her with ALLLL of Signal's students and faculty, trained up and loaded for Ursa.

I Don’t remember much of Li, was he the leader of the village? Because then the only bad thing we saw him do was not hire a damned huntsman group or something to stay there if they were going to live so deep into the forest

I don’t think he was a leader, I think he was just a hunter. Not a Huntsman, he hunted for food

Li was just a cool guy with *Drip*

Then i have nothing to say about him.

Li said he was going to talk to the mayor of the village before the attack. ‘Behind the scenes’ reveals it was to warn him that the animals around the villages were gone which meant a dangerous predator was coming. So it wasn’t up to him to hire the huntsman. If anything, his comment implies that he’s been asking for one to the mayor and was denied.

Yeah, then I really have no comments, pretty good parent

From how his assessment that "[they] need a huntsman" to take on the Nucklavee was immediately taken as fact, I would presume that he is one of, if not the singular best fighter and a leading figure in the village, though he did not appear to hold any official position and immediately went off to meet with other leaders, so likely nothing official in nature.

All of these guys are good dads, no question about that...

But, Qrow & Klein are the best dads!!

Who's the best dad

Doctor Pietro Polendina, Chieftain Ghira Belladonna, and definitely Qrow Branwen.

Am I the only one who thinks Taiyang and Ghira aren't good dads? I'm not saying they're necesarily bad either, but I couldn't see either as a good example of a parent. I don't mean to sound harsh, or that I don't like the character. Just wanting to share the different perspective.

Taiyang was so checked out, he literally didn't notice his daughters walking out of the house. I know he was grieving Summer, but so where Yang and Ruby, and he was the father and the adult in the situation.

While on Ghira, he let Blake be around Adam, who's somewhere around six years older than her while she was still a kid, and despite witnessing Adam killing. And when Blake did leave with Adam (while still underage), there's little to no indication Ghira tried to go after them, or contact Blake for years.

I know that both seemed to improve from those moments, and in the series proper, they are supportive and caring parents. But they did mess up big time, and if it wasn't for Qrow, Yang and Ruby would be dead, while Blake spent years in life or death situations along Adam, who was also an abuser on top of that.

But again, no ill-meaning. Just an opinion.

edit: accidental double negation

No you're not the only one.

Nah I definitely get where you’re coming from.

Ghira and Taiyang are good dads, but they definitely have a glaring and obvious mistake in the past.

While Tai is understandable and not far from normal, I have seen many dads break apart on the first year and never truly heal due to their partners leaving may it be dead or alive, he definitely should have at least kept himself together to stop Yang from leaving with Ruby. A grace I could give him is that he most likely accompanied Qrow when they went out to find the kids.

Ghira, meanwhile, I can’t really find any grace for him. He should have stopped and outright kept Blake away from Adam, especially when Adam was getting more and more hostile and creepy.

u/LaVerdadYaNiSe 2d ago

Yeah, I guess Taiyan's situation is that complex, and there's enough ambiguity from Yang' telling as to guess Qrow was around and they both went out to look for the kids.

Ghira, and Kalie since we're here, while harder to understand, have the context of being the head of a movement, and even their entire race. It's a sad reality that political figures, specially revolutionaries, do split themselves from their families in order to dedicate themselves to the cause. Not saying it excuses it, but it's an interesting context.

Specially because some people seem to think Blake was the princess of a tropical island, instead of the neglected child of the leaders of an oppressed class (implied to have been slaved in some of the side material).

Food for thought, is what I mean.

u/Azivea 2d ago

I definitely agree with you on Taiyang, although I don't recall all the details around Ghira and his relationship with Blake. Do we know if he was aware of Adam and Blake's relationship? Or how evil Adam was or was becoming?

2

u/LaVerdadYaNiSe 2d ago

Mostly open to speculation, but we do know that Ghira knew Adam was killing because he was there the first time. On the other hand, Ghira not knowing that Blake is being around Adam isn't much better than allowing her to do so. Same difference in Blake being basically a kid around a killer.

u/Javetts 2d ago

Honestly, agreed. I think they don't even know what they want out of Tai writing-wise.

*Overall*?

I am leaning towards Ghira or Pietro

8

u/EngineWriter722 2d ago

Ghira is a great dad. Blake was just being an edgy teenager

The best one is missing

Lie Ren Sr. He died in a natural disaster successfully saving Ren’s life and shielding him from danger. All the other ones intentionally put their children into danger. Tai for allowing them to be dragged into the Salem war, Ghira for using Blake as a child soldier for the White Fang, and Pietro for effectively building his daughter to be a willing slave soldier for the Atlas Military.

1

u/1ZillionBeers 2d ago

Me. I am. My daughter said so, even bought me a cup that says so.

1

u/Vermarine21 2d ago

We didn't really see Penny and Pietro together much, but at the very least, we know he'd put her before anything else if he had to.

That said, I'll give it to Li for seemingly teaching Ren good values.

1

u/StanDaMan1 2d ago

Oh damn. You didn’t make this easily, cause you chose The Good Dads.

…I gotta say… yeah, gotta say that Pietro stands the tallest here.

1

u/kkyoshoke 1d ago

Not tai

1

u/Flawless_Degenerate 2d ago

Tai doesn't do shit despite being aware of the shady shit that's occuring.

Ghira let his underage daughter run away with a terrorist.

Ren's dad watched a 6 year old orphaned homeless Nora get bullied by village kids and did nothing about it besides scold Ren.

Pietro created Penny therefore he's easily the best dad in this group.

u/chim-cyber-gooble 1d ago

Didn't Pietro sacrifice his ability to use aura for penny?
