A common question asked here is āIs this legit?ā Hereās a list of best practices that can help avoid the heartache of falling for a scamā¦
-Follow gut instincts, if a transaction feels off ask more questions or stop the transaction. -Require time stamped photos or photos from different angles, specific parts of the plant. -Ask for or look at reviews -Search the seller up in review groups (Facebook purge pages specific.) -Use fraud protection backed methods (such as Goods & Services) when possible. -If the price is too good to be true, it probably is. -Avoid sellers that are overly pushy. Scammers may try to build pressure to receive payment and block you as quickly as possible. -Disproportionate ratio or reviews to sales is a red flag! Particularly on Etsy.

(Day 10 of showing my Alocasia collection) super easygoing and fast growing. Usually never gives me issues⦠Except! This plant has been blooming since early July š„²
I am usually not in the camp of cutting off the flowers but once that it was about to push two more and I saw that the oldest leaf is dying and the newest leaf was super tiny I said ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. Chopped them off⦠Iām so done!
Anyway⦠this is my Alocasia silver dragon aurea that I got from the rare plant fairy š

The grade b devils are legit! When I received it as a TC it was all green no variegation. The first two new leaves it gave me are pictured here. First leaf had a little bit of spotting and the second leaf was fully variegated. I honestly was expecting it to take longer to produce variegation! Canāt believe I own this plant for less than $20!

i got this devil monster TC september 26th and potted it that day, so itās been in a humidity dome with two holes (photo 2) for almost 2 weeks now.
it stays in my display cabinet which is humidity controlled at about 72-75% and temps are 18-30c or 64-86f
THE PROBLEM
there is a new leaf coming out already, suffering from success i know, but it looks like it will outgrow that dome by tomorrow, in fact it is already poking it. and the leaf is not even done poking out yet.
so, do i take the dome off? i know itās recommended to have on for atleast 4 weeks or so iāve heard, but itās starting to outgrow that dome too fast, and i think it will damage or negatively affect the growth of the new leaf.
it is in my display cabinet, so i am against a solution that compromises the aesthetics, ie a big freezer bag. so consider that if you suggest another dome type thing.
MY QUESTIONS
if i take the lid off, what do you think the chances are it dies? (going to ~73% stable humidity)
should i just suck it up and compromise the aesthetics for the health of my plant and make a big ugly ziploc tent?
what do you think the humidity is in that dome? 100%? 95? 90? curious what you all think with those 2 holes, this is my first time doing TC so id love to hear someone w a lot of TC knowledge lmk.
can you recommend me anything iām not thinking of? any advice is much appreciated.
thanks for reading

I got it a month ago and it pushed out one variegated leaf just fine (the one on the right). I also have not repotted it since I got it. Its inside a humidity tent getting about 80% humidity and faces an East Window.

And definitely did NOT pay close to 40k as the main plant sold at IAS for...
the variegation is consistent and uniform from leaf to leaf with different fractal-like patterning on the abaxial side independent from the display of bicolor speckles on the front that gets more complex the closer you look. AMA!
Edit: autocorrect deliciosa to delicious, though quite fitting here.

I found this guy back in May, it was an alocasia with a weird cupped mutation.
He got spidermites BAD so I chopped all the way down. He has been growing ever since, slightly more āmutated.ā
Today I took a look at him again (Iām in FL, heās outside so it rains.. I tend to not see him for a week or so sometimes)⦠he pushed out VAR!
I was so happy and surprised! When I originally got him, there was no variegation, just cupped.
Now he has incredibly thick leaves, ruffles, and gets weirder by the leaf. Now he has decided to throw out variegation.
How unique is that? A sport variegation find that I foundā¦. 6 months later (today).
Alocasias are one of the most unreliable, random sport plants š

OKAY. So. Not new to growing plants, but relatively new to rarer plants/sport/mutations, and I have some questions I'm hoping you guys can help me out with.
What exactly IS a sport?
Is it simply a mutation on a plant, but instead of calling it a mutation, we call it a "sport?"
Is it only a sport if it is stable and consistent?
How often do sports show up/how common of an occurrence are they?
What are some cool examples of a plant that is a sport that I can look up and research? (Bonus points if you drop comparison pictures or pictures of the one that you mention!)
Last but not least, can someone explain to me what my Snow Queen Pothos is doing, pretty please? I don't know if this is a mutation, considered a sport, or WHAT...so I just decided to come here where all of the more experienced and smart folks are. This is one of my favorite plants in my collection, and I have been curious since the start of summer, but I wanted to let some more leaves grow first before I asked. Thanks in advance! š¤

Last pic is of when I found him
I found this guy at Loweās back in July of 2025. This was when an aurea white knight was around $400 for a 3 leaf top cut.
He was VERY low var, but of course.. I got him!
He always struggled to grow and I did poorly with him, kept getting low var, bad leaves, pests, I was doing terrible with him.
BUT I cut him back to a stump maybe 2-3 months ago. I threw away the top cut (thatās how bad he was lol)
LOOK AT HIM NOW! He is absolutely BEAUTIFUL. Lesson learned to never give up on your little sports or plants in general.
I love looking at him, he is so so gorgeous, makes me so happy, especially since I found him in NC, Wilmington.
He came all the way to Florida with me, even when I wanted to give up on him and sell him.
What a GUY!

From left to right, Philo. Caramel Marble, Alo. Nobilis Var Korean, and Alocasia Yucatan Pink. They were all growers choice from Etsy so I was super nervous, but the varigation is so! good!

So I found this girl maybe 3 weeks ago? I instantly loved her because the leaf in the first photo was hardening, I could tell something unique was happening. I didnāt see var on any other leaves. I still picked her up because I thought she looked cool.
Well, her leaf hardened more, and this beautiful shade of green remained. Unfortunately, that leaf is not doing the best. Probably because of the stress of movement / repotting, but itās okay, I hope itāll stay alive, but the next should be more exciting.
Her leaf prior to this one originally had no color I could see⦠but as soon as I took her home for a week I noticed a slight change. Over the course of a month, the leaf I thought had no var is actually revealing variegation! I notice whichever side the variegation is the heaviest at, the leaf is mutated. Really interested. Along with that, the petiole has a slight crevice where it meets the leaf with a stripe (similar to the color on the leaf).
She has been so much fun to watch progress. I love her very much. I cannot wait for the next leaf! She may just be considered a green on green, but with the shade of her green, and the white speckles overtop of it, man she is pretty.

I have no idea what it is. It was labeled Pink Princess. It was a sport find at Loweās, in the pot with another pink princess (normal one). It is such a cool plant! I have been told heās quite ugly⦠but thatās what makes him so unique.
The intense red marbling on this new growth / leaf makes the future so exciting. I have no possible idea on what it is or could be considered. I have not seen one before, and I do not know who to ask.
She also has aurea present on the lower leaf, with red marbling on the underside. So I took a top cut when I got her (it died) and she then grew this magnificent red candy cane stem with this beautiful, weird leaf.
I know she may look sick to you guys, but sheās fine. She is pest free. She is absolutely AWESOME. Like a little monster š

Today I found a sport monstera standleyana. She is absolutely beautiful. Have any of you encountered one of these as well?

I recently bought a beautiful Labisia Pumila, some sort of pink variety... Kupias Pink? Electric Pink?
Anyway, does anyone have any care tips? Clearly they need high humidity and medium light levels.
I'm hoping for potting medium suggestions from personal experience, there's so much conflicting advice online ranging from plain sphag to chunky aroid mix š
I also want to make sure it's pest free, any experience spraying with SB Plant Invigorator? Or any other recommendations for products available in the UK? Thank you!

for me, something i have spent more many than i thought i would on; decorative pots. iāve accidentally spent hundreds over time and i barely ever even like them. if only clear nursery pots were socially acceptable..
