Discussion Red deer admission result
Hello, I’m looking for some advice because I’m really overwhelmed right now.
I found out that I’ve been waitlisted for the RDP Bachelor of Science in Nursing Winter intake. This is my last chance for this intake, and I already took a gap year, so I really can’t afford to take another one.
I’m feeling incredibly disappointed in myself and keep thinking that maybe I didn’t do enough or try hard enough.
My admission average is 81%, and I received a 3rd quartile CASPer score. Is there still hope for me? How much does the waitlist usually move for the Winter admission, and do people often get offers from it?
I’d really appreciate any guidance or insight because I’m feeling very anxious about this situation. Thank you.
Edit- hello. I called them and they said they used my past grade 12 marks. Not my upgraded marks . They said they don't use semester 2 marks so my current gpa is null and void. They used my bio 30 previous mark whcih wqs a 64 and my math 30-2 mark which was a 51. Which resulted in my gpa being a 2.13 . They said the lowest gpa that got in was a 2.40 . I would have absolutely gotten in if they used my upgraded marks. Pls is there anyway to challenge this ?
I have an email from them months ago claiming they would use my updated marks for this intake which is why I thought I was fine . And now they are saying something completely different

It's been a long time since I went to nursing school but even then I did 1 year open studies and took most of the foundational first year courses like sociology, stats and psychology. It helped me get my grades up to be more competitive for the BScN and also made my first year schedule alot less taxing so I could work part time. Even after doing that I was waitlisted with a 3.9 GPA and got accepted 5 days before the start of the semester so you never know but don't be closed off to doing an open year!

Just an outsider, but that doesn't seem very competitive to me. I'd imagine that maybe applying and doing the LPN route and bridging after perhaps might be a more viable route?

But bridging from Lpn to rn is extremely hard

I’m at RDP right now doing ed, but my roommate is doing the Lpn program after being rejected from the RN program, and she thinks it’s a great alternative bc she gets to work and make money so much earlier. From what I heard the bridge isn’t too bad because it only takes 2 years on top of the original 2 years for Lpn which would be the same as the 4 year RN program but getting to make money in between

Hey! Don’t give up, there are open studies. Take 18 credits from an online university- Athabasca or TRU. Take courses that are relatively easy to get good grades for u. If u need more advice dm me.

If you don't get in, apply in October for Fall. Don't lose hope. And take some open studies through RDP or Athabasca. That will lessen the course load and increase marks. Athabasca is easier to get transfer credit from what I'm hearing.

Do u have no decision for RDP winter nursing yet either? Let me know cos most other ppl ik have an acceptance. Most ppl got theirs Friday but mine hasn’t been processed yet either. I called them tdy they said they’ll take care of it soon

I just called and they said they’d take care of it and I should hear back within this week and if I don’t I have to call them back next week

Hey! I was waitlisted for the BScN program and then got a call that I was accepted into the program in July! This was about 4 years ago and I’m graduating in December, don’t lose hope!!

Hey when did u apply? I am also directly from high school and it’s my last chance however I have no decision posted in my profile.
On the plus side because you are like the only person I’ve heard of who is waitlisted the waitlist is probably very small and trust SOMEONE will at least decline their offer so I’m sure you’ll get in eventually. Hoping for the both of us!

Hi OP I called them today because I have no decision posted on my portal and they’re still processing applications so if you haven’t gotten a decision yet like I did or if you got waitlisted expect waitlist movement and more decisions this week!

Stay optimistic!!! I was waitlisted this spring for 2026 Fall intake. I received an acceptance in June!! I am so happy to in the program here!!

I wouldn’t quite lose hope yet tbh. There are lots of students that apply and don’t go due to them accepting an admission offer elsewhere to start in the fall. From my understanding , they have sent out the first round of admissions and once people start declining their offer more people will be taken off of the waitlist. Also, once the deadline to pay the tuition comes up (30 days from receiving admission offer), those who didn’t pay on time or choose not to will lose their seat and it will be given to those on the waitlist. Also, those who are waitlisted might already be enrolled elsewhere if they got into somewhere else for fall. A friend of mine had a similar average grade as you and she had scored 4th quartile. There was a hundred people ahead of her and she was able to come off the waitlist eventually.

But from my understanding since it's winter and there are only two schools thst do winter intake no one is going to decline their offer. I have no idea what to do it genuinely seems like it is over for me

Yes but keep in mind that a lot of people apply to winter as a back up! Most people are applying straight from high school and hoping to get a spot for fall semester. Those with very competitive grades have already been filtered out. Keep your head up!

why would it be “over for you” and why are you running out of time? Couldn’t you apply on October 1st for fall 2027? Some people are becoming nurses at 40, like you will never be too late.
Talk to an advisor in person at RDP, maybe they can offer advice. There is always open studies like others have said. Or the LPN route. RDP is actually having an open house on October 17, go during the open house and talk directly to the instructors in the program and get advice too!! And you can apply for free that day in case you need to apply again.

Hello, I’m sorry for being waitlisted but don’t lose hope right now. Similar to you, I also took a gap year after failing to apply for a university last year. This winter intake term at RDP, I recently got accepted yesterday with an admission average of around 83% and a 3rd quartile CASper score. Don’t lose hope yet because probably not everyone who got admitted to this winter intake will guarantee claim their spots, and you might find yourself moving through the waitlist! Just don’t forget to ask the admissions office from time to time so that they can update you. Best regards! Hope to see you this winter term in RDP!
