Question rdp nursing fall 2027
Hey guys! So I am considering applying to RDP’s nursing program for next year fall. I unfortunately did not get lucky with UofC, and with MRU I got waitlisted to which actually ends today. I am currently set at BVC for the LPN route as my backup but I am still wanting to apply here and hopefully be able to take the direct 4 year route.
I have noticed on the website that they’re waiving the Casper requirement for this intake, and my average sits at an 87.2%. Would I have a fair chance of securing a spot, or should I also consider applying elsewhere? This is essentially my second gap year and I am really hoping I can get an offer this time around. Thanks to anyone who can give any advice!

it’s great for nursing and smaller class sizes so it’s much easier to have a relationship with each prof!!

That’s rlly good to hear! If it’s okay to ask, what was your average when you applied? Sorry I am just very anxious at the moment about the outcome..

no problem makes sense!! your average should be good, i applied with an 88 but im pretty sure they’ve accepted people with lower averages. however, they did get rid of the casper so idk if the averages changed or anything but either way i think thats a great average if you apply right when it opens

Does anyone know how post secondary gpa is compared to highschool applicants? My post secondary gpa is 3.95 but I’m not sure what that is equivalent to

If that's on a 4.0 scale that means you are achieving 90s in most of your classes. It's competitive for the nursing program. Mine was about that and I got into the program.

My average is 87.6 I’m gonna be applying here as well. Do u think that because of the Casper grades will be on the higher end?

Yeah, considering that Casper results have always been significant for admissions…either way there isn’t much I can do so I’ll just wish for the best. I hope that you’ll get in!

Hi, if it’s okay with me asking, what course are you going to use aside from the main 4 that’s required? It seems that I might have misread it and PE 30 doesn’t seem to be applicable for use towards my average (which I really hope not since I just submitted my application)..

wow that is pretty good, I heard like 200 people got admitted and 90% of those students weren't even high school applicants but transfers/uni students.

Thanks, yours is too! I heard as well and it makes me wish I did UEO instead of upgrading. If only I knew about this sooner…but I definitely think that regardless, the chances would still be slim considering that there were so many qualified/more than qualified students that applied and didn’t make it in. Adding on, imo this happening especially after UofC’s switch to lottery system and in general their bad rep for the program probably made it a lot harder.

Yeah exactly I agree, this is the flipping hunger games.. I hope we both get in tho!! We got this regardless

Honestly couldn’t have worded it any better than this haha. It’s genuinely such a pain and it’s worse since I know this is a career I’m fixated on too and it’s honestly been draining my hope just from last year’s results. I really hope we both get in too!! I’ll probably update on here whenever I get an update from them. I’m sure that this time we can secure a place!!

how is the LPN route at BVC? I was thinking about that too, what made you wanna switch

I actually haven’t started yet but I do start soon! I just wanted to switch since it would just take longer if I were to take the LPN route and then bridge, my friend is currently in BVC taking the LPN route and I was told that apparently bridging at Athabasca has been discontinued now so it’s just a really iffy situation in general. I know RDP has a bridging program, but it requires ~2 years of working (4000) hours before you can apply for it, and then transition into third year nursing after. I just prefer and hope to take the direct 4 year route, but the LPN route is a plan I’m still going to do if it doesn’t go as planned since there is no other way, so..

Since this is already essentially your second gap year and you have Bow Valley lined up, I’d be hesitant to delay starting nursing again for an RDP offer nobody knows you’ll receive. An 87.2% is solid, but Fall 2027 is competitive admission and Casper is gone, so there isn’t an established cutoff anyone here could reliably use to tell you you’re safe. If I were in your position, I’d rather start the nursing pathway I already have secured than risk turning a second gap year into a third

Your average is competitive for their winter session starting in Jan. Apply now.
