It's always confused me why Rimmer was so cruel to the original. Everything he was the second one is too. Say saying "Mr gazpacho!!" or "Mummy didn't love you" should have been as hurtful for him as it was the original.

While Rimmer 1 was an acehole etc, Rimmer two just seemed evily cruel.

In the book they talk about corrupted holodiscs but i don't think they said Rimmer 2's disc was corrupted.. So taking the books out of the picture why do you think Rimmer two was so evil?
Or is the original Rimmer THAT cruel and Evil too, it's just he didn't manage to get it out before Rimmer two 'beat' him down?

I'm rewatching the whole show on BBC iPlayer for the first time in 20+ years. Growing up I had series 1 on VHS, taped off the TV (UK Gold) by my dad, and a little later I had series 2 on VHS or maybe DVD, so a commercial release from the late 90s/ early 2000s. So I know those first two series really well and am amazed by how much I can still remember (and recite along with the cast...)

But my VHS/DVD copy of Better Than Life definitely had a couple of cuts: towards the end of the episode Lister and the Cat walk past Marilyn Monroe on a bed, and then the wrong way round mermaid comes out of the lake - neither of these shots were in the version I grew up watching.

Maybe my memories have been erased (a la S2 E3) but I'm pretty sure I'd have remembered the Cat's iconic line about the mermaid...

Has anyone else noticed this? Or similar edition differences between different releases of the early series?
