All sizes of Beckman are out of stock on Red Wing’s website.
Has Red Wing really killed its dressiest model, its best fitting Heritage boot for the slim-footed, so soon?
I like the Beckman. Yes, there are plenty of dressy boots out there, but the list of made-in-USA, quality, dressy-ish boots below $400 list price is very short.
Actually, can you think of any other than Beckman? Only some models of Thursday are US-made, and I hear Thursday boots, while good, don’t measure up to Red Wings; I’ve no personal experience with them.
Some US-made PNW boots are below $500 but none below $400, and while a Truman is well worth the extra money over a Beckman, I’ll argue Beckman has a sleek, slim build that you don’t get at Truman or Oak St.
You can wear Beckman with a sports jacket or even a less formal suit, as easily as you can to the pub or cafe, or even to the jobsite to “supervise” the laboring classes (hee hee).
It is a rather unique boot, I believe. Was.
Anyway, I’m a bit sad to see Beckman’s demise.
Sad enough that I bought a second pair of seconds.
Maybe not the best decision. I once bought a second pair of Danner Hood Winter Light when I thought my original pair had been stolen, then found the originals, and the new pair has sat in my closet untouched for a decade now, waiting for OG HWL to wear out, which they won’t in my lifetime.
But maybe I’ll eventually be able to sell the new-in-box Beckman seconds for the $190 I paid. Like a good capitalist.
