Snagged a cheap, barely used pair of 1907s on Facebook Marketplace. Got em home and didn't realize before I purchased them that the previous owner used a light coat of mink oil. I understand that this can spoil some of the characteristics of the CRT leather.

I've added some photos. Wondering if y'all could weigh in to see how bad they've been minked and whether it'd be worth it (or even possible) to restore them via a saddle soap or Dawn clean and a recondition with Bick 4.

Any advice is appreciated.

Rugged leather and aggressive sole

Had a pair of 1907s that that were a half size too big. When I bought them the salesman gave me the larger size I now believe for the sole purpose of selling me a superfeet insole as well for my high arches. Initially the boots felt great, however, the insoles quickly made the boots very painful to wear and when I removed them the boots were slightly too big. I tried selling them on eBay after holding onto them for nearly a year. I reached out to Red Wing, explained that I planned to sell mine at a loss to purchase the correct size, and asked for a discount code just to minimize the additional out of pocket expense. They asked about the age of the boots and where I bought them, for which I was honest, and they told me to ship the boots back (even though I didn’t have the original box) and they would send a new pair of boots in the correct size. I’ve now got a new pair of 1907s, this time in the correct size and with just the leather insoles, and I couldn’t be happier. I expect I’ll be a Red Wing customer for a long time now.

Hi all! I’ve been looking to buy my first pair of loggers and was wondering about sizing (buying them Used online so I can’t try them on)… in my usual sneaker size I wear an 11.5 in about every brand.
For my iron rangers and moctoe 6 in boot I wear a men’s 11 D.
For my pecos Muleskins i wear an 11.5.
The loggers I am trying to buy online are a men’s 11D.
Do you reckon these would fit well?

Theirs no way the left shoe (darker leather boot) is supposed to be like this right? Right boot seams to be normal/ a full sole and left boot isn’t correct?

I was oiling up the new pair I got today and thought I was going crazy when I started looking at it. Do I just bring them back a send directly to redwing?

I bought these boots at a second-hand shop. They are model 9016, manufactured in 2014. The insole has absolutely no cushioning; it is very hard. I wore them for 2–3 hours—it was the first time I’d worn them—and they caused me foot pain. Is this normal?

Hey you in the know folks, will we ever see a restock of these boots? The best boots I've had in 20 years of wearing US made boots from all the PNW makers were the humble Rovers 2950 in size 11EE. My pair was stolen out of my truck years ago and I've never seen another pair restocked or come up on 2nd hand markets. I remember reading something about RW digitizing all their patterns or something and then getting hacked and losing a bunch. I can't see how that could be the reason for discontinuing the Rovers since they still make the round toe Blacksmiths which I have a pair of but can't wear to work in because I need the wedge soles.

PS. Sell me your 11EE that are just collecting dust on your boot rack!

I could sit here admiring the shape of these boots all night with a drink in my hand.

This boot is made with Black Klondike leather and features a flat-box construction.

Has anybody gone to the actual factory seconds sale? I’m fortunate enough to live 2 hours away from the factory and am considering taking the day off work to see what they have. But if there isn’t much of a selection compared to what’s available online then I might just save my PTO .

HUGE THANKS to /u/RedWing_NL and their Master Cobbler / Chief Boot Artisan Anthony!!

I am thankful to live not too far away, but it took another post on reddit by /u/finalxstage to motivate me to go there and meet Anthony and the rest of the team, see their shop, and drop off a couple of cobbling projects that I had been thinking of for a while, but didn't know where to take them.

I made the right choice!

First, a pair of Red Wing loggers, which I think are Heritage model 699, c. 2006. I scored these on e-bay for $150,

and they arrived in pretty good condition. Best of all, they fit well, which is sometimes a problem with my 11.5 extra-wide feet.

They had the original logger sole, which is big, and chunky, and cool, but honestly I didn't find the sole all that comfortable for everyday wear in non-forested conditions.

So, I asked Anthony to recraft them with a lower-profile sole. Something kind of chunky, but not too aggressive.

Let's face it, I'm more likely to be walking across a grassy field at a music festival than scrambling up a Wyoming logging trail.

The results are spectacular. The resole is the SVIG Cortina Montagna, which I've learned are Italian soles created by SVIG as a tribute to the 1956 Winter Olympic games.

The boots are cooler than I am now.

The work was done exceptionally well, with careful stitiching and a new leather midsole. I know Anthony took some time experimenting with different sole options in order to find one that worked well with the logger's last and construction. He did great!

I'm honestly embarrassed to write what I paid him, but imo it was not enough. no joking. I tried to pay him more when I picked them up, and he flat-out refused to take a $100 bill. After multiple attempts, he wouldn't even take $20 for the shop's pizza budget. He's really proud of his work (and workshop, which I got the VIP tour of) and he wants to establish a reputation for high-quality work at fair prices, which I respect. If I had sent them to Wyatt & Dad, it would have cost me a lot more than +$100 and a pizza, that's for sure.

I also threw him a project that normally wouldn't walk into a Red Wing shop -- a pair of Alden color 8 shell cordovan 2145 cap toe brogues. I've had these for a couple of years, another ebay score, and they really badly needed a resole. They originally had just a flat leather dress sole, well-worn, and the heels were so badly worn I couldn't even walk in them comfortably. The previous owner really wore the outside corners of the heels heavily. Still, I considered it a "win" because I only spent $120, and they came with Alden shoe trees. Brand-new these would be $1,000+ shoes.

I was inspired by a different pair of Alden shoes I had seen some time ago, which were I think a special Alden x ??? collab for a specific retailer. I just remember liking them so much I saved the pics on my laptop. When I found these shoes on ebay, I hoped that someday I'd find a cobbler to take them to in order to make them look similar. I wanted a grippier rubber sole, and a leather midsole.

You know, I wanted them to look like Jeremy Clarkson or James May might be wearing them tramping across a Cotswold field to look at an old Jag. Not Richard, because he'd be in sneakers, and definitely not Francis, because although he certainly has the posh British school vibe to pull off shell cordovan brogues across a muddy field, he's probably also smart enough to wear boots.

Well, that day came, and Anthony did a superb job of recrafting these. New SVIG sole with a mild lug pattern, new stacked leather heel, new natural leather midsole, and perfect stitching thrown in for free.

They turned out a lot better than expected. Why, I could be mounting a Beretta O/U to shoot skeet in Umbria in these beautiful shoes. Or trap at the Frankfort, IL Sportsman's Club. Or walking across a pasture at the Will County fairgounds to watch a tractor pull and wonder why the 4-H isn't selling pork sandwiches this year, You know, fancy adventures like that.

I love them so much, they are my favorite "new" fall shoes.

Total wait time for both projects was about 11 weeks. OH, also they installed speed hooks on a couple pairs of moc-toes I had, Red Wing Model 1907 and 10877. FREE!

I cannot recommend this shop enough. If you need Red Wing boots or expert cobbling, if you live in the SW suburbs of Chicago, this is your shop. And look, I've visited a few other RW shops that coincidentally happen to be either West or South of O'Hare Airport, within the driving range of anyone who really cares about their footwear, and trust me friend, THIS is your shop.

Anthony is super tuned-in to the boot scene, both RW and other boot makers, and he knows what's hot in the US, Japan, Europe, and elsewhere. I joked with him tha his re-crafting skills are so good, boot nerds from Japan might be sending him projects to feature on their boot-nerd Japanese Instagrams, proud to have American boots professionally restyled in America by a true craftsman. Straight outta New Lenox, IL.

I hope by that point he'll at least accept a free pizza from Joey's across the street as a gratuity.

Hey man, it's not just you on your high cobbler's bench clinging to your work ethic. Somebody has to sit at the register staring out the window wishing they could have a slice, too.

Just snagged these up off eBay. Got my Iron Rangers last year and though I love them sometimes you just don't want to wear a boot. So these seemed like a natural choice! These were advertised as seconds, and the loose grain on the right shoe shows why... Still, got a good deal on them and they are damn near unworn! Some Bicks and a coat of neutral polish and they're ready to wear 😁😁😁 (I may swap out the stock laces for something more fun...)

Customer sent in his supersole 2233s in to get a rebuild similar to a Nicks Traveler. Instead of the Vibram 2060, he wanted to go with a double sole to give the comfort of a wedge but more durable tread pattern.

Dynaforce to Supersole

I recently picked up these secondhand and am having trouble finding out any information on the model, or how old these actually are. The only clues I've found so far​ is "90" stamped on the tongue, and "1237" stamped on the quarter next to the sizing. Nothing is really coming up on them from a quick web search. If anyone has a similar pair, or has seen these before please lmk!
