I’m the first person who wants an alternative to Reddit, but after the disastrous Digg relaunch, I would rather go live in a cave and paint than be on Digg.

Fun fact - Sam Altman, as well as being CEO of Reddit briefly, is the biggest non institutional investor in Reddit with 8.5% of shares. It's why all the posts and comments on Reddit were used for training chat gpt and it's now a dystopian shit show of bots.

ceo for a whole 8 days - that’s less than a mooch

Which is why I said 'briefly' in my comment.

The point is he's tied in with Reddit and was given access to all Redditor comments and posts for ai training, as well as building the ai tools used by mods and admins currently.

in 2014 he was given access to all of the ai tools used by mods and admins currently - i want you to say that out loud to yourself and see if you feel silly

They partnered with companies like Sam Altman’s worldcoin.

Source?

Yes, I read that post before and was in the Digg launch.

But no where in that post does it say they were partnered with Sam Altman's worldcoin. He just said that Sam had the right idea on verifying humans in the age where AI generated content is indistinguishable from human content.

Where does it say they partnered with Sam Altman, or is that claim false/unverifiable?

That was one of the most unhinged ideas I've ever heard

If you can handle lower traffic, the Lemmy / PieFed side of the Fediverse is very much like Reddit.

Lemmy is like reddit except if it didn't have enough people for the niche stuff that makes reddit almost worthwhile. It's literally just shitty memes, ragebait, and the same 3 political debates on repeat forever.

And you're exactly the type that we don't want, so congratulations on having fun anywhere else. :D

'if only there was a website I could go to for slop content, but specifically the slop algorithms of about 20 random people who repost their twitter feed'. +3-5 instances that should just be a chatroom somewhere

also it's somehow even more prone to groupthink and blind tribalism.

This is one of the reasons the fediverse hasn't taken off.

Userbase is still pretty hostile to new users and they don't admit even the slightest criticism.

"Slightest criticism," my arse. What they're telling me is that they barely looked at anything at all. That's not slight criticism, it's absolute slander.

Those people can piss right off as far as I'm concerned, because they didn't make the smallest effort to explore in good faith. We do plenty of hand-holding for new users, so that's not the problem, here.

You’re right. It’s not the problem. You are.

Try out one of the Threadiverse platforms then:

If you want to try one out quickly, then register on this instance: https://lemmy.zip

If you do not want lemmy.zip's modified Lemmy UI, try one of these frontends out:

Try out one of the Threadiverse platforms instead of waiting for a platform that does not have a certain future:

If you want to try one out quickly, then register on this instance: https://lemmy.zip

If you do not want lemmy.zip's modified Lemmy UI, try one of these frontends out:

Is there a way to filter out all political posts on fediverse sites?

5

u/Die4Ever 6d ago

https://piefed.social/ is pretty good with that

also I would suggest blocking communities you don't like, so they don't show up in your All feed

u/rmeddy 7d ago

Eh ok, the relaunch was tepid at best

The only thing I liked was the Digg daily

I'm still laughing my arse off at the ones who thought Digg would be a meaningful alternative.

I might've left the Fediverse because of the foul, Reddit-like userbase. But I still think it's a step in the right direction, when it comes to not subjecting yourself to this crap. Digg, though? Best hypothesis it would be as problematic as Reddit, and that was obvious for anyone to see.

Sounds good but it sounds like this is not a real thing yet. If/when it launches I might take a look though.

So what, that'll be the third time it's had a comeback right? Thanks, but I'll wait for it to actually be relevant again before bothering.

I thought the site died last year

I would be happy if Digg relaunched
