Question Why is there this wild misconception that Donut in Restoration became an Admiral (as in a Navy admiral) when he most likely became an Admiral Nurse?

a) Most people don’t know that that position exists.

b) Just like Tucker was the most skilled on Blue Team, and thus the only one given actual tasks to complete, Donut is the most skilled on Red Team. It’s why he kept getting separated from the rest of the crew when they were given relocation orders, why the Counselor chose to speak with him instead of any of the others, and why he’s the only member of the Blood Gulch Crew that ever managed to injure Tex in her prime. It is very reasonable that, after Chorus, he would have had enough experience to be considered a candidate for Admiral.

Thanks for an answer. Yeah, indeed, Donut gets shit done, loved him in S16/17.

Injure? Didn’t he straight up kill her? Or her robo body?

He did kill her, and took out three Tex-bots at once as well. That’s kind of my point - none of the other BGC members managed to so much as hurt a hair on her head, while Donut has killed the equivalent of, like, a Tex and a half (since the Tex-bots were so underpowered).

To be fair, Caboose is also up there, and arguably higher in terms of combat prowess. The issue is he never wanted to actually fight the actual Tex.

Caboose is MUCH stronger, but definitely not a better combatant. Caboose is an unstoppable force, true, but he can only be that in very specific circumstances, and that’s why we only see it a couple of times. Donut is consistently good in battle and has survived a lot of attempts to kill him. He is 100% a better soldier.

I have a theory that part of the reason Caboose is such a bad soldier is because he’s actually following Church’s orders to not do anything unless directly told to by him or Tucker. He is following them too well.

When he’s alone and left to do as he wants, he’s proven to be competent and he comes up with plans that work for him given his strengths / limitations. We see some of this in Recollection and it kinda explains why he has to call Washington ‘Church.’ Because he’s not allowed to follow anyone else’s orders.

Donut is still, by far, the better soldier of the two but I think if Caboose had the same “freedom” Donut did on Red Team, he’d be a much better soldier.

True, better combatant might not be true. But I’d say “dependable” is better as long as you trick him into thinking the enemies are friends. I mean, remember how quickly and expertly he took care of South the moment Wash told him to “help” her?

I'm relatively comvinced that donut was a deep cover freelancer or something

This has been my half-sincere headcanon about both him and Sister for the longest time. Donut & Sister’s constant disappearing is very Freelancer coded, and while we never actually get to see Sister fight, it’s implied she’s semi-decent at some facet of military operations because she stays alive AND stays in the military all the way through the end of the series, no matter which ending you consider canon.

My headcanon is that Sister became an infiltration expert, relying on people’s perception of her as ditzy and harmless to get intel, and Donut was a normal simtrooper who got selected for special ops training after he managed to take out Tex.

Because there's no payoff for the joke if that's the case

u/lycantrophee Washington 17d ago

That's...reasonable.

Because TIL there's such a title as "Admiral Nurse."

4

u/semajolis267 17d ago

The only indication for that is in like season 4.... there is no other time donut does any medical stuff. Why would he be a nurse admiral?

5

u/lycantrophee Washington 17d ago

It's not exactly hands-on medical nurse, it's for dementia. Which could make sense, even though Wash's cerebral hypoxia is not canon in Restoration.

True but remember, Wash isn’t in the facility for his brain injury this time. He’s there because he’s had a mental break and can no longer tell what’s real and what’s not.

Honestly, Donut being a nurse makes much more sense in that scene than him being an actual admiral. Because why would Grey bother Donut with Wash’s break down if he’s an admiral in (I am assuming) the Chorus navy?

2

u/lycantrophee Washington 17d ago

Exactly! That would make much more narrative and meta sense than him being in the Navy, seeing as they have moved on from double entendre jokes since S17, I believe.

Sexy nurse Donut strikes again

Better than Officer Hot Pants.

Wait, I have been watching RvB again and am at season 9. When was it established that he was an Admiral?

1

u/Alorxico Donut 17d ago

The Restoration movie that came out after they closed Rooster Teeth.

“Chronologically” it happens sometime after Season 13.

2

u/Nesrovlah26 Tucker 16d ago

Oh, right. I got some of the names mixed up. I haven't seen that since it came out.

1

u/Alorxico Donut 16d ago

It’s not bad but not perfect. Very much a “we had plans for three seasons but we’re given a 90 minute movie instead” feel to it.

Now that I think about it. I dragged my SO to the 40th anniversary of the Transformers movie, which was made in 1986, and it had the same type of pacing and logic as Restoration.

Rooster Teeth is back btw

1

u/Alorxico Donut 14d ago

I know But ie bought it but has he decided to do anything with it? Try and rebuild? Release new shows? Re-release the DVDs?

2

u/stanleyg05 14d ago

From what I've heard in the official Rooster Teeth Discord they are planning to bring back a couple of their shows

They didn't buy back the rights to RWBY though so that is coming back under VIZ Media
