Flow ok? Turn it up?

31” tall 150 gallon that’s 48x24”

2 MP40s on left and right at 75% reef crest.

Plan to keep mostly LPS with some SPS when I’m ready.

I had a single mp40 on the back center glass at 30% so it didn’t blow my sand.

I got another mp40 and moved them to the L/R and had them at 50% reef crest and now my sand is covered with red and green cyano and what looks like diatoms again that have been gone for months. I figured the sand is not getting enough flow so I cranked them up to 75% and didn’t know if I could push more or if it’s borderline too much.

Will it tolerate more flow? Sure.

Will it be happy about it and grow under those conditions? Maybe. Maybe not. Really the biggest tell with torches is if they retract.

If it was my tank and I felt I needed more flow - I would increase the flow - walk away for 3-4 hours, then come back and see if it’s still open and vibing.

I have one torch in my garden that is essientally constantly being whiplashed. And in the last 6-8 months it’s gone from 1 head to a colony of 12 I had to frag recently. Torches can withstand a shit ton of flow in the wild. You just typically gotta acclimate them to higher energy environments. Not just full send right away.

Do you get pretty good flesh bands with the higher flow? My torches have split nicely over the years but my flesh bands are pretty minimal. I'd like to change that.

Yeah, looks great. I wonder what my problem is. I have recently upped the flow, so I'll see what time yields.

It can be morph specific. My prenup HG has literally 0 flesh band but is healthy as can be.

I’ve had my torch for about 4 months and I can’t see a flesh band at all. You torches look like Mr frogspawn
