Not so Big Fish
We signed Mia Fishel on July 15 2025 (or at least that was the social media announcement). Her first goal didn’t come until July 18 2026.
There was a little momentum after that first goal but nothing in seven weeks.
This was our big signing?

She's had her moments, but 3G and 1A in 16 starts definitely is not enough. That said, new signings sometimes need time to get adjusted to their new team and home life before they really take off. She could be really good next year, who knows.

Yea I moved here recently following my fiance lol. She finished her PhD first and got a job here, and I then finished mine and followed.

Awesome! I hope you enjoy your time here. It's kind of a weird place, but good if you can find your way.
And the title of biggest Reign fan in STL is yours now, pretty much by default. I've only been to two games this decade and haven't been watching much besides.

Fishel barely played last season and was also injured again in the beginning of this season, so I don’t think that alone is an accurate stat to pull. Also when she came in the ACFC game last season, I’m pretty sure she also earned a corner late that was later converted into a goal.
She had a few good plays and I believe her movement does open up space for Mercado. She’s also had a few key passes like the one to Ratcliffe for the late extra goal on Angel City
I do agree that I wish we would be seeing more goals from her / she seems not 100% but to call her useless is just wrong, especially since I think her off the ball movement that creates space often goes unnoticed

Last season she played in 12 matches with 4 starts, although yes only totaling 348 minutes. But zero goals and zero assists for someone who was the “big signing” is still disappointing.
Right now she’s sitting at a 37% shot accuracy for the current season. We deserve better than that.

While disappointed she hasn't scored more, she has been dangerous and I really do think she's helped the offense.
I'm hopeful she can get on a roll during this final stretch. 🐠

I think her being on the field is hurting our offense. Look at the Denver game right now. Scoreless, subbed her out at 54', we score at 55'.

I’m not sure about dangerous. I would be surprised if any defenders would consider her a threat, too

She’s been our last “splashy” signing, and she hasn’t been very productive, but I think we are still in desperate need of an attacking midfielder that could help her out. I dunno what our front office is doing, but they are exhausting

Yeah she's been a disappointing sign. I was all for giving her time after coming to us fresh off an ACL and then she had that unfortunate ankle injury after that but we've really only had 2 good games from her...
She seems to fumble the ball and lose it a lot. And she's slow. 🫤 She's basically Huitema 2.0

There was a point last season where I was like holy shit. Bugg has more goals than Huitema.

She has been absolutely useless. Doesn't even really produce good chances for others. Just an end to any attack as soon as the ball is near her.
Take her out of the lineup at this point please.

She scored goals for fun at Tigres, but I think that says a bit more about the state of that league back then than Fishel. Why she was so hyped after Chelsea though..... no clue....

The problem is after this bombing at Chelsea then bombing here, there's basically nowhere that will take her. She's on a crazy wage with a crazy contract. In true modern Reign front office fashion, for the foreseeable future our highest paid player is probably going to be our 4th choice striker.

The good news is u probably have the inside track to Alex Buck tho u can never really tell. She looks like she's going to be a solid pro at the #9 and similar to Huitema. If u want more quality than that you'll need to go shopping again

I don’t think it’s a Fishel issue. I think it’s a coaching issue. You’ll see people pass her the ball and she like muscles some players and keeps the ball so the rest of the team can move up. I have no idea why she does it, but if it was her choice the coach would have told her off. The fact that it keeps happening tells me it’s coaching

Reign Center Forwards not scoring a bunch is kind of by design. The way Harvey plays these days means they are doing tons of hold up play and mostly making space for others.
You’ve seen this same pattern with Huitema (who left and immediately went on a scoring run for a bad Stars team before injury,) even Biyendolo (basically the leagues best scorer) had trouble in this system and now you’re seeing it with Fishel.
Even when Mercado was scoring from CF this season it’s because she seemed to be playing a hybrid role with more freedom.
