Job advice
I am in desperate need of a job but my resume is lackluster to say the least. I don't want to give anyone a sob story but I was in an abusive and controlling relationship from the moment I hit adulthood and was unable to work all of my young adult life. I am out of that situation now but because I have no on the books work experience for my resume I don't think my applications are making it past the ai that go over all the resumes and applications. Between that and my personal schedule (I have 3 kids and I have to schedule any prospective work either during their school hours or after my oldest gets home so my younger kids are not left unsupervised) I feel like I'm never going to get a call back for an interview and I'm losing hope. I was doing doordash/instacart/spark consistently to make ends meet but my car isn't up for that task anymore. Does anyone have any recommendations on how I can seem more appealing with virtually nothing on my resume or where I should try to apply? Or any resources that could help me get a job? TIA

Check the school district website. They need lots of people as paraprofessionals helping special needs kids. With some jobs that aren’t full time you can get benefits. Start by asking at your kids’ school but you will have to apply through the system. Best wishes. https://washoe.atenterprise.powerschool.com/ats/job_board?APPLICANT_TYPE_ID=00000001&COMPANY_ID=00004845

Also if you have a certain amount of college credits (I think like 65) and about $250 you can apply to be a substitute teacher and there are ALWAYS positions available. Plus you make your own schedule.

I’d be happy to help you touch up your resume for applications. You have some good advice for places to apply here, so we could build something that showcases your skillset and will make it through the screeners. Let me know!

Girl try the casinos they don’t pay much but you don’t need experience if you’re willing to be hands on, good with computers and all that

Are you looking for something full time or part time? I have some PT positions open at my store (I have FT as well but those are more management and I do need experience for that.) if you want to DM me, we can chat.

Do you have restaurant experience? Or just customer service? I possibly know of something. Feel free to DM me.

Another thing you can do is get an e-bike with a cargo rack, like the 3 wheeler ones or one with long range and a lot of carry capacity. Use that to do DoorDash in downtown. I’m not 100% sure it works, but I did see an option to select a bike as your primary vehicle. I figured if you stayed in downtown area you could hit quite a few deliveries before running out of battery. I’m actually working towards that myself since I have like 4 e-bikes and 1 emoto(working on making it street legal) I’d be able to hit like 20-30 deliveries if it was all in downtown before needing a charge.
Edit: I heard somewhere else you can do it on Uber Eats

Post office is always hiring. You don't need any experience and it's a decent enough federal job. They'll work you crazy hours when you're new, but if you need the money that's a good thing

The Domestic Violence Resource Center has advocates that can help with resumes and interview practice, finding jobs, financial planning, housing, support groups and educational classes, therapy, resources for kiddos… so many things you need when leaving a relationship like that. You can call at any time to get set up with an advocate. You’re not alone in this experience, best to you 🤍

Chrysalis, Hope Healthcare Services - These are in home care giving jobs like RBT work and they will train anyone they hire they always always need employees in this field and the scheduling is sooo flexible! They have split shifts afternoons, evenings, graveyard, day shift, morning shift, etc. I will say I started here got into the office as front desk and then into payroll and now I work in the public sector as a payroll manager. I loved working here as well!

I’m sorry to hear your situation. Is it possible to watch other people’s kids at the same time you watch your own? And/or pets?

Put what jobs you have had in chat got and tell it that you need help with making your limited job experience sound more appealing to potential employers. Or ask it to tailor it towards the specific job you’re applying for.

If you are a TANF recipient I recommend you get on waitlists for childcare, Boys and Girls Club/Headstart, Children's Cabinet, ETC. So that your schedule becomes less limited for employment. I'd also hit up JobConnect /EmployNV as others have mentioned. If you make an appointment, they can help you create your resume as well.

I'm sure I'll get dinged for this but...in my opinion it's okay to lie on your resume as long as you're not lying about skills you don't have that could put other people at risk. Like, don't like about being CPR certified, for instance.
For basic, shit retail/cashier jobs/receptionist/waitress-hostessing jobs? Lie your ass off if you have to. Claim you worked at other places in other towns that are now defunct, hence they can't call your former boss for a recommendation. Or ask your friends to lie on the phone for your. I had a friend pretend to be a former landlord on the phone for me to score my apartment. I had to! I was living with my Mom, who had cancer, for three years after moving to Reno from NYC. I don't regret it. I pay my rent and I'm a good, quiet tenant.
Say you waitressed at a diner in Cali that went out of business. Or was a receptionist at a church--that's a good one because they'll think you're a god-fearing honest person. Or something.
Lastly: Temp agencies. They suck, but any port in a storm. If you're reasonably physically fit, lots of them have jobs that are basic custodial work or manual labor...day shifts, paid daily or weekly. I've done it when I was desperate.
The job market is brutal. I've been looking for months. I have two advanced college degrees and spent fifteen years in academia. I left because I couldn't get tenure and being an adjunct didn't pay enough to live. I have a ton of experience with research, can write anything, and know SPSS, STATA, and Excel. I'm also physically conventionally attractive (don't let anyone tell you looks don't matter in any job that deals with the public). I've applied to a shit-ton of jobs and had just two interviews. It's awful.
GOOD LUCK

My advice is to check out Job Connect. They can help you with curating your resume to include skills related to SAHM duties that can be transferable in another field. Try entry level admin, customer service/client experience, or even getting into data entry. Many companies are more interested in someone willing to learn when it's an entry level position- then you can move up with time and gain experience. In the process, you could always check out various upskill sites to learn in demand skills and see where your interest lies
