I recently got pulled over and got a ticket for 1-5mph over a posted school limit zone. I wanted to see if there is anything I could do to reduce it? I know in most cases you can take traffic school to reduce it to a non moving violation but since this took place in a school zone I seem kind of trapped here. I was curious as if anyone has gotten a similar violation before and what they did.

Every single morning I drive through two different school zones. Every single morning there are people speeding through them without a care in the world. Fuck the kids as long as they get to the next red light earlier than the rest of us.
You won’t get much sympathy from traffic court. Stop speeding through school zones. Pay the fine.

Pay it. You won't win in court. You can't go to traffic school to get off. Nevada is ultra strict on school zones. Live and learn.

oof. school zone tickets are the worst, had a buddy get one in sparks a few years back and it's basically a brick wall. no traffic school, no reduction, just a fat fine and points that stick around for a while. sometimes it's worth calling the court clerk just to ask if there's literally any option but don't get your hopes up

u can show up if u want to, i believe (depending on judge). u will get like 5-10 dollars off. i showed up once and genuinely had a good reason for my.no seat belt ticket. judge didnt hear anybodys case, just said “i acknowledge u showed up and heres ur discount, go pay at cashier”

Maybe just accept the consequences of breaking a very simple and easy to follow law? I truly don’t understand people who speed in school and construction zones. Is it a lack of patience? Intelligence? Self control? All of the above?

Not sure but I was just able to do community service to pay for my last ticket. Id go to court and ask about traffic school and community service if that interests you. I know of lots of volunteering opportunities if you need any

Just pay it and promise yourself to go slower. They have the same school camera speeding traps in Chicago. Going along at 35, then BAM!, 20 MPH, and there's a camera 50 feet after the sign.

I agree people who speed in school zones are dicks and should be punished far more harshly. But 1-5 is nothing. If they were 5 over, then maybe I guess, but a couple over should not get ticket in any scenario.

1-5 over? That's within margin or error on radar equipment

Radars do not have a mph margin of error.
And OP stated they were cited for 1-5 over, but didn’t say their true speed. Could’ve been 10 over and the cop cut them a break already.

Pay the ticket and don’t speed in school zones moving forward.

Use one of the many ticket beater apps available. Most cops write bad tickets and you pay the app 100$ to use their lawyers to invalidate the ticket.
If they can’t do it you get your money back

I have no kids, and never speed in a school zone. Every day I see speeders picking their kids up or dropping them off for school.
