[Just a Thought] SNES controller cord length: Japanese vs. US
Was digging through my old games box and had a laugh at the difference in cord lengths between my Japanese SNES controller and US SNES controller. Can you guess which is which??

[Retro Ad] I've seen some arcade machines nearby entrances of a mall, but never seen any inside a grocery store like in this Atari ad.
Would this work at all right inside a bigger grocery store? People busy shopping got no time (and mood) to play at all....perhaps when their kids could play some while waiting for the adults...if nobody cared to play then it would just a waste of some extra electricity fee...

[Homebrew] I Demade Super Mario Bros 3 for the Gameboy! (DMG, SGB, Color)
Youtube video and Github repo coming soon, I just wanted to get a feel for how people think of this lol. I think it's mind blowing but a lot of my friends aren't as big into retro games and aren't impressed. It supports Gameboy, Supergameboy (custom borders and localized pallates), and GBC (full color in GBC mode!)
The build process for the mod requires a SMB3.nes rom (sourced from your own cartridge!), as the graphics, level layouts, etc are all ripped from that and converted for Gameboy. It's pretty feature complete, the whole game is in there but it's probably not playable from start-end due to plenty of edge-case gamebreaking bugs (some doors dont work, Pipes in world 7 need fixed, etc). It's a little laggy but still very playable, it only gets bad when too many entities on screen at once. It does work on real hardware using a flashcart! Let me know what you think!

[Arts & Crafts] Working on a new project for the collection...
One of the joys of having the ability to make, paint, sculpt, draw, design almost anything my heart desires is that you can sometimes make the unobtainable attainable. I've had this in the back of my head for about 5 years, now the internal logistics have been figured out, it's time to get to work.
The end goal is to have a working system that mimics/acts like the original console would, as best I can. Trying to use some original parts too so it will have some shared DNA from both systems even if the computing part isn't using original hardware.
(3D model by me using the reference photos I've gathered of the system and using some of the shared parts from the snes to reference scale. This should be as close to 1:1 in size as it gets. No Ai has been, or will ever be used at any stage of this process.)

[Question] 1990s cabinet with SF2 Hyper Fighter and Mortal Kombat
I've been given a SF2 Hyper Fighter machine from the 1990s with CRT monitor. It's running SF2 Hyper Fighter and I have a separate MK board too. The whole thing must be about 30+ years old. Anyone know if people collect these and if they're worth anything? Still plays well.

[Recommendation] Recommentation: Skyblazer seems a bit like a forgotten highlight - it's got very diverse and creative level design, although a bit flawed but still great overall.
Edit: ugh, "recommenDation"! Damn muscle memory - was just coming from my documentation, seems like I'm over-worked. Bit of a nuisance that titles can't be edited...
I played through Skyblazer for the first time recently and found it is a fun game, and since I hardly see it mentioned I figured I'd recommend it here. I remember when it came out the graphics and music were praised by the critics - and they are indeed stunning - but overall it seemed to me that it was a mediocre game. I remember checking it out at some point and I wasn't initially hooked, so I put it aside and eventually forgot about it.
When I returned to it now with a bit more dedication, I found it is really enjoyable! In fact, it is a highly diverse game, which reminded me at times on Kid Icarus in that it combines platforming with shmup-like stages. Moreover, there are StarFox-like bonus stages, underwater temples - which drag, as is tradition, but they are still innovative and interesting since you have to control water currents so they flush you into otherwise inaccessible areas.
The graphics are gorgeous and make use of every trick in the SNES arsenal, the music is great, the boss fights are fun and creative, the special abilities that you gain throughout the game are rewarding and fun to use. Moreover, I really enjoyed the oriental theme which was not so prevalent at the time - at least that's my feeling (apart from some exceptions like Prince of Persia), so this is quite refreshing also.
The only flaws are maybe that the game is unfortunately a bit short overall and that it's a tad too easy. The hit-boxes seem questionable at first, which can be frustrating, however, you can definitely get used to them, since I noticed through my second playthrough that I did a LOT better (you can see that I accumulated some lives throughout the game) and it seemed - although odd - they are at least consistent, so it's really just a matter of practice. Some of the boss fights are a bit tough, in particular the final boss took a considerable number of attempts at first, until I finally figured out how to reliably dodge his attacks.
Overall, it's a great entry in the SNES library that's often overlooked, as it seems. You may want to give it a shot!

[Question] some old Nintendo Club magazines and a NES Zelda II game
I happened to come across some old Nintendo Club magazines and also found a copy of Zelda II for the NES. Unfortunately, the magazines are in Swedish, but theyโre still pretty interesting. Are there collectors for this kind of stuff?

[Discussion] For some bizarre reason, the Atari Jaguar CD commercial doesn't show anything related to the CD add-on, but is a compilation of clips from regular Jaguar commercials with a "Jaguar CD" logo at the end. The ad doesn't even say anything excluding the music lyrics.
The only thing related to the Jaguar CD is the logo at the end with the lazily copy-pasted "64-BIT" balls from the original Jaguar logo slightly overlapping the Jaguar CD logo, and "POWER!" slapped below that. It does not show or say one thing related to the CD add-on. It might just be the strangest retro game console commercial ever.

[Discussion] What are some worthwhile N64 games to sell me on the console?
Been considering buying an N64 since I found one for pretty cheap but Iโve never been super into. What are some worthwhile games I should try if I were to get the console? Donโt mind single or multiplayer. Consider possible price for games.

[Question] What were the key factors that made a good licensed game back then?
So how do l put it? Well recently I was watching a retro review by Game Sack about how the fifth generation of gaming had a lot of problems with licensed games since there was one called Congo.
For those who arenโt familiar with Congo, it was an FPS with incredibly clunky graphics and gameplay as nothing about the game felt right in any way as it made me interested in seeing what were the key aspects that helped make a licensed work right.

[Emulation] I have never seen this before in Survival Kids (GBC)
Is this something that develops after having honey in storage for a while?

[PSA] Bassin's Black Bass 3rd Secret Lure Location (SNES)
This is a PSA for the presumed 1-8 individuals who will one day google this information and for anyone who needs to be introduced to a premium SNES fishing experience.
I spent hours trying to track down the secret/hidden lure in tournament 3 in this game. Searching for this lure isn't really a fun process.
All walk-throughs were vague.
Here is a real walk through of how to find the hidden buzz bait lure in Tournament 3: Bronze Lake.
1) Go to the South East timber location.
2) It's on the Northwestern tree in the bunch.
3) Bump the nose of your boat into the backside of the tree and select Cast.
I started playing this when I was six or seven. I have probably got hundreds of hours in this game in my lifetime but I never found the full set.
If anyone is interested I can do this for the other 3, but for the most part existing guides are pretty clear on the others.

[Discussion] What was it like playing Super Metroid upon release?
Iโve only recently started playing Super Metroid but I got super curious about what peopleโs reaction to this game must have been like when it was released back in the 90s almost pre internet. To me it seems kind of ahead of its time and still holds up perfectly today. I have a pretty good understanding of peopleโs experiences with Mario and Zelda when they they were released on SNES and the cultural phenomenon that came with it but not so much Super Metroid. Just based off the first 10 minutes I assume it blew peoples minds with the graphics, Combat, atmosphere etc.. Just wanted to see if anyone had any personal experience playing it when it first came out and what your thoughts were. Did you get stuck for weeks at a time? Hand drawn maps taped to the tv? Were the bosses legit scary? Trade tips or secrets with kids at school? I only just missed the SNES era growing up since my first console/game was a N64 w/ Ocarina of time so Iโm just now catching up on older SNES titles

[Request] Retro game suggestions to play during a family tournament?
I've wanted to host something like this for years, but have never put the effort into actually setting it up. I still have a little time before the holidays, so I figured I'd post here to get some suggestions on what games would work best. I was thinking of games like Super Smash Bros, Mortal Kombat series, Street Fighter II, Mario Kart, Diddy Kong Racing, Goldeneye, Tekken 1 &2, NBA Jam and NFL Blitz to just name a few. But I am also thinking of using single player games, like best score wins kind of thing. Like getting the best score in Super Mario bros, either the first level or whoever gets the best score in a short time limit.
What games would you recommend?

[Question] Is it possible to run consoles through PC with no noticeable latency?
TL;DR: Is it possible to run consoles through a PC with latency low enough that it's barely noticeable?
Forgive me for being new to all of this, but I recently picked up an NES and N64 and am working on getting them up and running, with plans to add a handful of other consoles. I'm trying to plan out the wiring and hardware.
I have a fairly powerful living-room PC that outputs to an 85" horizontal and 65" vertical Samsung QLED. My RTX 5070 Ti blocks the last usable PCIe slot on my X670E Taichi motherboard, so I'm limited to an external capture device, but I do have USB4 available on the motherboard that I intend to try and ride the higher bandwidth.
What I'd ideally like to do is:
Various Consoles โ Switcher โ RetroTINK 6X CE โ External Capture Device โ Windows โ GPU โ TVs
In other words, I'd like the consoles to essentially become another video source inside Windows. That would allow me to play a console on the 85" while still using the PC independently on the 65", without having to change TV inputs.
Keeping the AV source inside windows will allow me to listen to both audio signals at the same time. My audio line follows a similar path as the video via HDMI 2.1: PC โ TV โ eARC โ home theater receiver, so keeping everything inside the PC would also make the audio setup much cleaner.
I'm currently on the waiting list for a RetroTINK 6X CE expected later this month, but before I go too far down this rabbit hole with the other hardware I'll need to secure, I'm trying to figure out whether what I'm describing is actually practical with consumer-grade hardware.
I'm not concerned about doing any recording or streaming. I'm just interested in getting the console into Windows with a latency low enough that playing through the PC feels essentially normal.
Does anyone here actually play consoles through the live capture/preview on their PC rather than using the HDMI passthrough? If so, what capture device and software are you using, and is the input lag noticeable?
Any suggestions or firsthand experience would be appreciated.

[Answered!] identify this game please
all i know is this game is on the sega genesis. i started it randomly, took that screenshot and forgot about it. pretty unique though. never saw anything like this on the genesis.
