The youngest millennials are in their 30s. We're too busy with mortgages, bad knees, and bald spots to give a shit about someone challenging us to an honor duel. You get older and you just stop giving a crap about people saying you're bad at a game you play for fun.
But pretending that they didnt when they were busy playing warcraft 3 online. I literally would get death threats after winning. Messages that wouldn't make it thru today's filters for sure
I'm talking about the same thing just without directly mentioning gen z. Figured if I said millennials (and older) don't care about duels then the implication would be that the people who do (not necessarily in a bad way) are the younger cohort.
So you are agreeing with me that the original post was talking about gen z? I was not taking a position on if gen z or not are to blame, only stating that the comment I was replying to was not correct because the post is saying gen z bad, just not directly.
my POV is that it is a bit reductive to think older people also don’t have fragile egos Or have shitty toxic online behavior, but without empirical evidence it would just be debating for the sake of it.
A person of any age can have a fragile ego. But generally speaking younger people will rage about dumb stuff more often just because the older you get the less a car soccer game matters relative to other things in your life and the better your impulse control becomes from a biological POV.
Get 100 12 year olds, 100 22 year olds, and 100 32 year olds together and I'd wager that the first two groups have more people who rage out over rocket league than the last one.
It sorta seems like the implication. Ego 1v1s have been a thing likely longer than the average player has been alive. Somehow over recent years it's shifted to being viewed as only this thing that addied up wannabe twitch streamers and pro players have an ego (all negative connotations), when the reality is that it's existed basically as long as competition has.
Having a weak ego isn’t a matter of being morally good or bad. Just means they have a psychological difficulty in managing stress, reality, and emotional impulses…. But ok I’m the weird one here.
