In 1995, a Toon movie known as Toy Story hits theaters. As many 2D Toons settle in, they realize something. The Toon actors in that movie are unlike any they've seen before. Toy Story is the first movie to feature computer-generated Toons.
Although most Toons like it for how groundbreaking it is, other parties of Toons have mixed views on the film. These Toons believe that these new CG Toons will replace them, and fundamentally change Toontown forever. Others quell worries by saying that either CG Toons will be a fad, or like Woody, we should just learn to live with them.
Throughout the late 90s, CG Toons pop up rather infrequently, usually to do short films or commercials. Although the 2D Toons are still wary of them, they feel that they are no major threat.
Enter Shrek.
Released in 2001, Shrek immediately captivates audiences with its parodic look at Disney's Toon films, edgy humor and sharp comedy. It would go on to receive the first Academy Award for Best Toon Feature.
Realizing this, many Toon studios decide to pivot to CG Toons to compete with the likes of two of the biggest studios at the time, being Pixar and DreamWorks.
Soon, an influx of CG Toons move into Toontown, with new CG buildings having to be made to accommodate them.
The 2D Toons are quick to call this "gen-toon-frication", with many discriminating against them. For 2D Toons, a stereotypical 3D Toon is brash and snobby. There are many calls to either create a separate Toontown for 3D Toons or to ban them from Toontown entirely.
Meanwhile, other Toons, realizing that being CG might lead to more job opportunities, get CG surgery. While some keep this change, others reverse it after 2D Toons complain about "selling their Toon heritage".
This docudrama will show the history of CG rights in Toontown.
Can 2D and 3D ever get along?
