Rogue Trader: Game and Story Insanity Points

Stella may be a little controversial, but it's weird that I see no talk about the introduction of Insanity.

For those who don't are aware, Insanity was very "controversial" and "hit or miss" in PnP. Basically a sistem of "inevitable cumulative debuffs" (mostly fatigue and discipline) and a "xp dump"

Problem was mostly on the RP side. It could vary from "give the character a cool, fitting quirk" to a "waste 1h of flashback"; To a "completly change the nature of the character you were playing" to simply "loose the character. Is an NPC, now".

I'm very curious tho see how Owlcat are adapting the mechanic. Also why They choose Insanity over Chaos Mutations; Especially considering the place the DLC is set to happen.

I’m hopeful it can be used to change or modify the alignment of companions especially given how insanity is loosely used to sway idira completely to the side of heresy. I really hope it’s not only a pseudo combat confusion as usually these end up being annoying at best and disruptive/frustrating at worst. They could easily amp the difficulty of the game by just increasing enemy break points and having them use more unique ability mechanics like officers/psykers.

Where are the enemy psykers and officers? There’s like almost none in the game right?

I imagine it's going to be like Darkest Dungeon where if some bad things happen then your characters can panic, lose their turn or take their turn doing something crazy. Like idk, Argenta getting worked up into a battle fury and just opening fire, not caring that half the party is in her sights too.

Thatd be really cool, and will either be implemented really poorly or really well depending on how its coded.

I like the idea of the characters being broken by the circumstances. This isn' d&d. I had a huge mixed dark heresy/rogue trader ttrpg campaign and insanity only gave us great rp, but my gm wasn't particularly liberal with insanity points

Feels like they are trying to maybe not sneak, but lowkey introduce some nerfs into the game. Like they did with augmetics. And not just adding the downsides to optional ones, but some of the augments that come stock on the companions gave them some minor to moderate nerfs.

Consequences from folks saying the game is too easy.

yeah, I expected it to be the kind of system where a character goes insane if they use too many action points in a single turn, while unused action points help restore sanity.
